  • We finally got some snow that I can test out my drive modification where it is faster in reverse. After using it to completely clear my driveway, I have to admit that a little more speed in reverse would be better, but modifying it the way I did, what you gain in reverse, you lose in forward, so I will live with it the way it is. One thing about this machine, it uses very little gasoline having only a 3horse Briggs engine on it, which is nice. No more power is needed, as you can see in the video, it does load the engine a bit when I push the snow pile at the end of a run, but I believe it would tear up the drive mechanism before it would stall the engine!

Thanks, and it was a cheap heart attack avoider! I only have about $100 into this, plus some of my time. But I now have it for the coming years. Living in town, it isn't always possible to blow the snow where you want it, due to neighbors cars etc. The last thing you want to do is scratch a car or break a window blowing snow! Plus a new snow blower is like $1000 or more. My trusty old 1972 snow blower is ready to go if a serious storm hits, but I like this better for the sub 10" snow dump storms.

I think if it were fitted with a V-plough (Yes, we spell it that way!) or one on an angle, it'd be able to push the snow aside without the need to reverse as much, just chug on through pushing everything out of the way... :D

Yes, I think you are right. The one advantage to the straight plow is that it puts it into a pile at the end of the run, versus pushing it to the side. I don't think an angled plow would work very well, as it would push the front end the opposite direction. A V plow would at least try to go straight.
