Thank you very much for the compliment! Yeah I thought often that regarding technical diving, there's not much content out there...so I started creating some. I love to share my knowledge - that's the very reason I became instructor :)

I am currently SSI Advance Adventurer Diver (equivalent to PADI AOWD) I am interesting to take a GUE Fundamental classes in the future to improve my own diving skills (i.e. triming, buoyancy and other dive skills), would like to know what the GUE system which I may be interested to be part of the GUE Diver, as well to learn how to dive twin set and dry suit.
However I am not sure where to start first. Do I have to start from non certified double/ drysuit primer first or start taking the fundamentals first.
    Thanks

Trim and buoyancy is something you for sure have to be good at. The other skills can't be done correctly without it. When they start task loading your trim and buoyancy gets much worst. Flexibility was a big issue for me. I wasn't able to reach my tank value. I failed fundamentals. I failed bad enough the instructor didn't except me to want to try again. When I said, I plan to try again, he offered to pair me with other GUE divers to practice before I take the class again.
I personally think failing this class was best thing that could have happened to me. I thought I was a very good diver before this. I was expecting a tech pass not to fail completely. Buoyancy while moving is so much easier than when hovering like you do during fundamentals.

Yeah exactly. In the end you didn‘t really fail, because you learned a lot - and that‘s the objective of the class, not ownership over a silly plastic card. Well done!

Hi DoktorBen, could you please elaborate on the common issues with trim and buoyancy and how to solve each issue? This is the biggest barrier preventing me from progressing in my fundy class. Thanks!

    • @DoktorBEN
      @DoktorBEN  3 роки тому

I can, but preferably your instructor will fix that during the class. Who did you take the class with and what was the outcome?

@@DoktorBEN well for obvious reasons I rather not name the instructor. Just to be clear, I’ve done fundy part 1 but have not enrolled in part 2 yet as I feel I’m not ready. I did OW 11 years ago and have not dived since, so I’m almost a new diver. My instructor was very patient, but we were simply limited by the time we had in confined water. He pointed out issues with my trim, but we didn’t get to the point where he could give suggestions on how to improve except “practice”. So, I have been practicing with my buddy whenever I can. But of course would love to hear your opinion on how to better improve. My issue is my legs tend to sink, and I have difficulty keeping my hips extended. I’m using a BPW and neutral fins, if that makes a difference.

Are your feet really too heavy or is this an unconscious counter-movement due to a too head heavy rig? That’s often the case.

@@DoktorBEN Thank you for the reply. I'm actually not sure. If I totally relax, my hips flex and I rotate legs down.

    • @DoktorBEN

Well I guess it’s too complicated to fix over UA-cam comments. I could make a video about this

    Hi Ben,
Thanks for the content. Can I use sidemount in the fundy class?
    Cheers

Am I too old for this and I am also worry about the weight of the oxygen tanks they may cause back problems

Gas tanks, most likely air when you start, not oxygen

@@DOHCG GUE actually never dives with air. You dive 32% until 100 feet. GUE has standard gases.
