- Exactly one year ago, we became World Champions in solar racing for the very first time in the history of our team! During the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge, university teams from all over the world compete in a challenging race that takes them 3021 kilometres through the Australian outback, propelled forward only by the energy of the sun.

@@SolarTeamBelgium cooling the panels would help performance. Also the work lights at nite could be used too charge the car lol or is that the intention
Well wish i could actually come help ..i have ideas that cant be shared on the Internet google will steal them .. But cooling the panels would help the driver also lol.. Are you the team with the shark skin texture for less wind drag
Do you guys have a phone number or email .ive got some out side the box ideas .. Maybe i need a rule book lol..is the only requirement power comes from the sun.and surface area of solar area

I came here from UA-cam Premium and I was blown away by how your car just sailed through the wind like it was nothing. Or when the car did the 360° after it was hit by the dust devil and you could still keep driving. What an incredible feat of engineering.

I'm also doing a project on ocean wave energy convertor which is also renewable energy, got selected from 3000 different ideas but we never got fund, its now 2 years, we are unable to make that reality still working(here government spends very less in R&D)

Yo facts! What they did was so uncool. Bro let ur game do the talking. Anything can happen in a race but I personally believe if they didn’t if them up they would’ve won the race. But at the same time the winners deserved it, because they were just focusing on their own team.

@@nandra4974 their convoy blocked the road for tokai for almost 1hr straight...

@@nandra4974 The japanese teams car was probably the fastest of all but started the last on the race. As soon as their car started to close the gap bettween michigans car michigan blocked the japanese car with some of their convoy vehicles and slowed it for nearly a hour

Quick technical question:
Are mirrors allowed to increase the power output of the solar cells?
I know the size of the solar cells is limited, but you could potentially work around that with a mirror.
Partial mirroring would also be extremely useful for the cabin glass, since heat management seemed to be a major problem in the cabin.

I don't get it, their car burned to a crisp but then they somehow won the race?
What advances have been made because of this competition ?
What I'm confused about I see no statistics on the staggered start of how much a lead did the first car have off the second car in minutes does anybody have that information or how much time the first car left before the last car at the beginning of the race? I think that would be more accurate to determine who won based on actual time they spent driving from the beginning to the end

The finishing times are usually so far apart that the starting order does not make a difference.

There are no monetary prizes involved in the World Solar Challenge. University teams participate to showcase the possibilities of engineering and renewable energy.

@@rollandelliott It's all there in eternal glory and the great stories these students can tell for the rest of there lives. I was a member of Solar Team Eindhoven myself during the 2019 WSC in the Cruiser Class of the event. Just like our Belgian friends, we had the pleasure and excitement of winning. I don't know if I speak for all involved in at least our two teams, but money is not the main priority. The WSC-experience of the intense competition, overcoming hardships and crossing the line first, that's what counts the most!
@@marnixbraakman9508 I'm sure it's not cheap to transport a team of a dozen people, a solar car, etc around the world. the race organizers should take some of the funds and give them back to help the schools afford future trips is all I am saying

I'm about su subscribe youtube premium to watch the series. then I saw this entry on my recommendations page. This makes me less interested to watch the series...
Next time don't be so petty. Complaining that another team prevented their solar car from being blown away in the wind without touching it.. That was beyond petty, not as bad as Michigans stunt preventing the Japanese solar car from passing their gas car for a long distance.
