Unimogs are serious off road military vehicles. They are also handicapped when traveling on highways as they were not designed to move faster than 45 mph, which is probably as fast as most military vehicles go on paved roads. So befoeenyou got non the trailhead to go overlanding, you may haven't go for many miles on an interstate highway, and a Unimog going 45 mph at beat will be a pain. This is built on Chevy 6500, powered by. 6.6 liter V8 diesel generating over 920 pounds of torque. It can easily keep up with traffic. Not as good off road as a Unimog, but for the majority of owners, it can do mich more beyond what it will encounter. And most importantly, any repairs or service can be done at a Chevy dealer. Tires are standard truck tires. Transmission is standard for an 6500. No need to hunt for a Unimog dealer or order tires that takes 3 months to come in and cost $1,000 each.
Unicat in Germany and Unidan in Australia produce vehicles that can accommodate larger families at this price, based on MAN Trucks and Unimogs. This truck is brilliant but pricing is way too high compared to other leading expedition truck makers. But great work from Earthroamer guys.
Earth Romer knows they have a monopoly in the North American market because neither MAN trucks nor Unimogs are street legal here. It's a real shame because the European overloading scene seems much better than what we've got here in the States...
@@jimbo1637 not exempt but, not the same as a road truck. In other words, they carry an older standard just like importing buses. I think the current rv standard is 2007 to 2011 epa regulations. Any MAN, SCANIA, VOLVO, IVECO, DAF or MERCEDES that is EURO 6 as a "camper/RV" is importable but only MAN & Mercedes do 4x4 & 6x6 chassis builds. I own a towing company and have picked these up in Miami, Savannah and Charleston and taken them to get inspected. They aren't allowed to drive until they pass inspection.

Worth it? Only to them.

@WANDERER0070 those trucks are a completely different category. If they even are available in America. They'd have to go to a specialized repair facility possibly. Getting them repaired would be difficult. And u can get a pete or kenworth in a tandem or single rear axle 4x4 system. With a strong network of Paccar dealerships. Making it easier for repairs. I guarantee that Chevy Truck cab will be in worse shape with 200k miles on it. Compared to Peterbilt or Kenworth cabs. The Chevy Truck cab is from the previous generation of Chevy Trucks. Which aren't built to the quality of Paccar trucks.
@NHRA_FREAK take a look into the Freightliner M2 106 Chassis in 4wd. Same price or less and made by Showhauler and Dynamax Can be serviced at any truck stop.
@SoloHiker1 I don't need to. Been driving commercial trucks & rigs for over 2 decades. There's no comparison to a pete or kenworth. The build quality is light years ahead of freightliner. Freightliner & international are 2 of the cheapest commercial trucks on the road. Only thing reliable about international is that they breakdown regularly. Freightliner isn't much better.
1.1 million for that??? Oh man, you Americans are really crazy. A manufacturer who would offer a bad Chevrolet for this money in Germany would be immediately bankrupt. Europeans spend a lot of money on expedition vehicles, but then you have a MAN 4x4 or 6x6 or a beast from Unimog as a base vehicle. For 1.1 million, you can get a vehicle in Germany that can get through any terrain and still has a palace to offer as a living space.
I honestly can't see how or why this is 1.1 M, I've seen other rigs that are longer and bigger, and having spent was less (under $50K) with the same things in them, if not more. I don't see what makes this worth that much?
Yeah, would be much more reasonable at somewhere between $250k & $350k, and maybe up to $500k at the most. Still way out of my range but I could understand that price way more than $1.1M
This one has ALL of the upgrades and features that they offer, if you remove the one's that you would not want or need, it definitely drops the price to below a million.
This guy i know who has a lot of money says these are nice. But if he was to spend this kind of money on a motorhome it would be a Class A size. I cant afford either but if i could spend this money i would go the Class A route. Not saying Earthromers aren't nice but $1M IMO is high for this size. Real nice and happy for those who actually own one

Seriously, nothing else even comes close to what Earthroamer is doing. Their stuff is light years and head and shoulders above and beyond what anyone else in the US is doing. With that being said, they are outrageously overpriced. $1.1+ Million for cutomized Chevy 6.6? I dont think so. But I do absolutely LOVE these Earthroamers.

It is crazy that it is marketed at 1.1M. It worths $300k+/- at most. Anything more than that, it is like robbery. If the manufacture did spend, say, $800-900K to make this vehicle and want to sell it for a 10-20% margin, that still doesn't mean this RV worth $1.1M. It only means that they spent close to $1M to make something only worth $300k. Even $300K is too much for it.
With this price tag, it should come with 30 years bumper to bumper warranty for free.
Better be lifetime.
