I agree that Rocket Man is #1, but Funeral for a friend/ Love lies bleeding should have made the list.

Just a comment on the list, I think there is too much influence on your list from oldies radio. The program directors of corporate oldies radio pick songs that are the least offensive, that appeal to the broadest number of people without stirring up strong emotions one way or the other. That's how oldies radio has elevated Journey as somehow being more important than the Beatles, or why the only Jimmy Hendrix songs we ever hear are All Along the Watch Tower and, occasionally, Purple Haze. Specifically, oldies radio LOVES Bennie and the Jets, Rocket Man, and Saturday Night's All right For Fighting, when I think any of Funeral For a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding, Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me, Someone Saved My Life tonight, or captain fantastic and the brown dirt cowboy are much better songs.
I actually agree with your opinion. I'm not judging you. I'm just sad that corporate focus group oldies radio is so heavily censoring what we hear that younger people don't know many of the truly great songs from the 50s, 60s and 70s.
I'm young and love 60s to 80s and few early 90s
I love every one but my favourite would have to be Hello Hello with Elton and Lady Gaga

I heard Nigel's quick intro to your #10 selection and I immediately hit 'Like'! The 45rpm sleeves were epic too! I can't recall any of the LPs having that interlocking Dick James Music logo on them. Interesting.
