    One fun fact to note is that in an episode 3 secret scene its revealed that everyone thinks Randy is the one who hid the machete which is another factor as to why he got voted off over Parvati.
    Sandra and Parvati also kind of pregamed and had a "winners protect each other" mutual agreement so that was another factor. Randy didnt pregame whatsoever so that led to his downfall sadly.

    • @UnbreakableBloke
      @UnbreakableBloke 9 місяців тому +20

      Maybe they pregamed. But I think it’s more like Sandra and Parvati knew they are former winners and they’re shields for each other.
      Sandra said Randy went to her and said “We decided that Parvati should go home as she already won.” This freaked Sandra out because who were the “we” that decided to cut Parvati, while Sandra herself is a former winner. So she ran up to Parvati and told her about this, but Parvati already knew about that plan.

    Regardless of who you were rooting for, this is probably the most iconic final three in Survivor history. If we think about the three elements of Survivor, Russell was the best strategic player, as he controlled nearly every vote. Parvati was the best physical player, as she won three immunity challenges late in the game. And Sandra was the best social player by a mile. More often than not, the best social player wins the jury vote because Survivor is fundamentally a social game. And Sandra rightfully won.

    I always thought that Parvati deserved to win because she had a better strategic game. But more and more I’m realizing that Survivor is a more of a social game. Parvati, IMO, was the superior strategic and physical player. Maybe if this was the final 3 today the jury would choose differently. But you can’t expect to win over a jury (bitter or not) if you haven’t made any relationships with the people on it.

      i think parvati wins if jeri was there instead of sandra. sandra did a very good job building relationships with the jury and making them feel she gave them an opportunity to work with her and that they could've made the final had they done so which made them feel she was worthy of their vote.

    • @coneil72
      @coneil72 9 місяців тому +16

      That is very fair. Unfortunately for Parvati, literally everyone except for Russell had it in for her from day 1. Everyone was scared of her. Her #1 priority was threat management, and she handled that amazingly throughout. You're right that she didn't succeed at building relationships at the same time, which tbf would've been an enormous order. IMO her biggest mistake was not handling the Russell-Danielle fallout, as that cost her the game.

      In my opinion, Parvati does deserve the win over Sandra. Not because she played a better social game and I truly do understand that is why Sandra did win and I'm not discrediting her that at all.
      However, the thing that would have sealed the win for me as a juror looking at Parvati's game is that she was legit a target at the very beginning of the game and that threat of Micronesia stuck with her the entire time and she still made it to the end. That alone would have probably swayed my vote and I think that if she could have angled her story that way and had someone on the jury who was persuasive enough to argue that point home she could have possibly won.

    Sandra played one of the greatest social & strategic games of all time here. She managed to publicly fight against the dragon and its evil owner all season without ever being targeted by them. Parv epically failed in her strategy once she allowed the dragon to take down both Jerry and Danielle before Sandra. Jerri & Danielle were like the dragon’s pooper scoopers. The dragon owner can only win if she sits next to the nasty pet dragon and one of its pooper scoopers. Everyone in final 3 has to be complicit in order for the main evil mastermind to win. Otherwise, a virtuous game will always win. The only exceptions to this have been Wendell, a dragon that won over its owner because the pooper scooper had to cast a tie breaking vote, and final 2’s between dragon owner and dragon, where the dragon usually wins over its owner.

    I will be honest, I never really knew why Sandra was considered a villain. To me, people who "tell it like it is" are to be commended and appreciated, and I feel the reason she won the game twice was because this quality of her personality made her easy to trust and too valuable as a potential ally to get rid of. When Rupert wanted her vote, she told him that if he could guarantee the numbers she would but that she couldn't do so otherwise, which is refreshingly honest by Survivor standards.

    • @agwarddd
      @agwarddd 3 місяці тому

      I feel like the thing people tend to overlook, though, is that the heroes trusting Russell was a calculated move due to Parvati’s history. When they saw the men being picked off of the villains tribe, it was a reminder of Parvati and the Black Widow Brigade, where Parvati led a group of women to pick off the men. It looked to them like history repeating itself, and so they assumed that Parvati was the one pulling all the strings. What they failed to consider was that Russell was the puppet master this time, being able to hide perfectly behind perception of Parv, and that trusting him was the worst mistake they could have made. This poor read of what was happening is what led them all to their doom, especially when they didn’t listen to Sandra’s warnings. Then when they get to the final, and realise that Russell was the true villain all along, what they see is Parvati having been his lapdog and Sandra who stood against him, and how if they had listened to her, they could still have been in the game.

Never has someone been able to be public enemy number 1 like this and still get to the finals. I think that the jury didnt just like sandra, their egos were bruised by the fact that they wanted her out, they said they wanted her out, they planned it, and it still didnt work. Its one thing to be surprised because you underestimated someone, its another to be charmed and duped by them, its a complete other to try and try and try again and still have that person beat you. Thats just losing. Theres no "what if", you were just straight up bested. Parvati deserved the win, but she never had a chance of being able to get it.

    WAIT lol, why didn't they cut to Amanda when Parv did her little point and face at 3:34? That was such a missed opportunity to show us her reaction especially if they were trying to have us believe early on that they'd come together at some point and be allies again. Also, I think it's interesting that Parv and Sandra's dynamic was so on display at the endgame but not in the early days of the tribe. I would've liked to see some more of them together, because I'm sure Parvati had like talked to Sandra about how she was only using Russell as essentially a meatshield at that point somewhere near the merge. Because I doubt the only thing stopping Sandra from flipping was Russell telling her about Candace. Because I find it weird that she would trust him with that. But then again, I guess we'll never know.

    Having watched this season many times, Russell is not as good a Survivor player. Maybe it was the rose colored glasses of the day. He’s great TV. That doesn’t make a good Survivor player. He is a decent physical player, master manipulator with one of the worst social game; his delusions and illusions of grandeur were on par with Phillip. His one sided rivalries are comical.
    As much as I love Parvati, she wasn’t going to win this season. Like Janelle in Big Brother, she made no grand gestures to win over the folks who had it out for her. Though most of that acrimony toward her was not warranted and steeped in implicit bias (looking at you Jerri). She stuck with her crew and that was it. It worked on Fans versus favorites because the jury was comprised of her entire friend group.
    The biggest mistake both of them made was keeping Sandra. While physicality is not her strong suit, she is a master of honesty and relationship building, which I’ve noticed is really important in all returnee seasons, i.e. All Stars 1 and Second Chance.

    i always felt sandra and candace started on the wrong tribes. candace flipped on yul and ozzy, how does that make her a hero (then goes on to flip on the heroes tribe later in the season and sink both her game and her tribe's again)? sandra was largely with rupert (hero) and against fairplay (villain) her initial season, then went on to beat scout in the final, the least deserving player to make the final until chris in edge of extinction. though her dirty play in the first challenge did kinda make sandra look villainous.

    • @robknicker
      @robknicker 9 місяців тому +7

      I heard that candace was like a late addition maybe? For Sandra, i think survivor production was counting anti-hero behavior as villonous for casting. Similar with courtney to some extent - they openly opposed and fought with the villains on their seasons, in non-heroic ways like cussing them out or talking a lot of smack. And Sandra also did the dumping-the-tribes-fish and letting her only ally left take the fall for it thing too

My only critique is not understanding why Russel might be scared of a possible final two around the one hour mark of the video when earlier in the vid you mention that Micronesia was fresh in everyone's minds. That season had a surprise final two which arguably cost Cirie the million.

    By Giving the Heroes an opportunity to play and they blowing it,, Sandra's name would keep coming up behind the scenes among the Heroes and since the final 3 are all Villians, to the Heroes, Sandra was the Heroe of the Story and so they gave her their vote. Parv's social flaw is that she gave up on trying to appease the Heroes by taking out Russel and Candice really hurt her with the Abusive relationship analogy. All Perv could have done to win it was to take out Russel. But then Perv was probably scared she couldn't survive without Russel.

    Parvati really played one hell of a game this season, especially given her threat level since the very beggining. And even with how everyone considered her to be the “most dangerous player” since the first minute they stepped on the island, she was only TWO votes away from becoming a first two time winner, which is just incredible. Parv really played from the position she could and as hard as she could, but it's simply hard to win survivor when most people around you are waiting impatiently for you to lose. This is no hate for Sandra or her game, just my opinion on why I’ll forever remain team Parv.
