It's a great interview. You can tell it isn't just a press junket interview where the same kind of generic (and often poorly researched) questions get asked. It's actually an interview where the interviewer has clearly thought about his questions and the topics he wanted to cover. Reminds me more of interviews I heard at acting/filmmaking school and at university. Actually discussing the craft and writing and character decisions. I appreciate it a lot as someone now studying writing :) Plus, the interviewer sounds Australian which I very much appreciate as an Australian myself. I can recognise our drunk-sounding accent any day hahaha
The most truth about treating trauma I've ever heard "when things are hard and you're in a place that victimises you and treats you like nothing, your life is miserable and it doesn't get less miserable just because you don't want it to be".
YES! Thank you Bruce Miller for understanding what it's like to be in a hard place and for bringing that honesty to the show. And he mentioned Rita finding enjoyment in small things - I relate. Everything is still chaotic overall, but I can enjoy this meal or sitting outside for 10 minutes.
Great interview. IMO some of the reason June isn’t liked is her facial feature where her mouth appears to be in constant frown ( because of lines/shadows on side ). This look is innately off putting and people with this feature can be labeled as miserable and constantly mad at something. We as people automatically react to constant frowns as dislikable. I get these lines when I gain weight. June loses them when in plain clothes. We would identifiy with her more if they weren’t always there. If that’s what writers want. A great study in behavior.
I love that her stubbornness towards Serena and I think Serena should lose the baby in childbirth because only then can Serena and Fred feel the true punishment from God my favourite god is the angry smite full god in the beginning of the bible and it is funny that in Gilead most of the children being born should be boys another curse on the world , especially Gilead. I think when the series ends I will read both books to see what the dystopian world would look like if we don’t question all Gov’t the one in power and the one that is not in Power as well.
This was a brilliant interview.

This what the handmaids tale is good at showing is that people aren't all good nor are they all bad. Humans are complex.
So true!
Great interview!

It's shame the show had to be rewritten and scaled down, but I'm so happy to finally get another season.
The only Freedom June has is to tell her story. How ever it comes out!!!
