The makeup industry isn't dead. Beauty is still a billionaire dollar industry. A lot of businesses are taking big hits though for 2 main reasons. 1. Like you said with covid and quarantine, there was no need to wear a full face of makeup when you were in the house all the time or when we had to go out we were wearing masks. And 2. With the way the economy is right now, many people are struggling to get by. They can't afford a $20 foundation or a $25 blush palette. The beauty/makeup industry is still booming, it's just not what we've seen in previous years.
Not only that but it hit a lot of people hard financially and cosmetics just aren’t the priority anymore. This economy is getting tough out here like we’re just trying to buy eggs ok lol

He actually made me feel more interested in makeup during the pandemic. I’d sit in my room and follow his tutorials just to relax and unwind. He gave me that spark for makeup that no other influencer has. If anyone is deserving of their own line, it’s Robert Welsh.

I refuse to watch TikTok reviews. First of all, they are all mostly old enough to be kid, and second of all, I want in depth reviews. Putting a product on one time is not a review. I have a few things that I loved the first application, and now I hate them because wearing them for a long period of time tells me how the product really works or doesn’t work for me. I like smaller creators who are sponsored by non beauty brands because they tend to tell the truth about a product. It’s not about money to them because most of the stuff they review, they purchased themselves.

I know people have been on the skincare lately since Covid and makeup trends are much more natural but I do see makeup coming back and being as much of a trend. People love buying things and I think it’ll sway back
I do really think the beauty community and makeup in general is going to have a very hard time coming back completely. In my state tons of stores, hospitals and schools still require masks. Because of that I basically gave up on makeup besides mascara. It's just too much of an annoyance trying to keep it looking perfect and taking a mask on and off constantly. I think the main problem with UA-cam is short form video is the new craze and it seems many UA-cam communities struggle with making something with content but also short without burning out. A gaming UA-camr I used to watch was complaining about that recently that he's so sick of having to make multiple short form videos a day to keep up with tik tock. I personally prefer longer more meaningful videos I hope that style doesn't fizzle out completely.

Meredith Roxbury is really stunning. But I don't follow any of these influencers anymore. I like James Welsh for skincare vids, John Maclean (bc his style of makeup artistry is top notch), Hindash (another professional makeup artist), Lisa Elridge, and personally, I love Skelotim, he does reviews on makeup & skincare, and hauls & anti-hauls, he has a great sense of humor & I love his honesty. There's a much smaller influencer named Supra that I enjoy also. I also follow Trixie Mattel, Violet Chachki and Juno Birch. All are drag queen performers whose styles I have always appreciated. All of them have a unique look. But that is a handful of people in the influencer sphere. Everyone else generally gives me sell out, cash grab to the max, vibes.
I don´t think he´s completely late for it but he is not going to get the success he thinks he is going to get. He is not as popular as he used to and even though he still has a lot of very young fans it´s not going to cause the same impact as it would a couple years back because a lot of people stopped supporting after seeing his behavior. Right now it might look like a dodged bullet but the moment and time to release his brand was right after his palette released and with Morphe´s help. I would even say that instead of launching Morphe 2 they should´ve put that money on James´ brand.

I think a lot of people are saying he missed the boat not because he actually has but because it feels like he shouldn’t have the chance to be successful after his criminal behaviour. Unfortunately it seems to be that a large enough portion of his fans have forgiven him AND if he manages to get a deal with a bricks and mortar store to sell his products, he may very well pick up revenue from people who see the brand but don’t know his history. Also, people are getting back into make up again and if a new brand launches that has a good price point and interesting products, then there’s a solid chance that brand could find some success over the next 2-5 years.

I do really think the beauty community and makeup in general is going to have a very hard time coming back completely. In my state tons of stores, hospitals and schools still require masks. Because of that I basically gave up on makeup besides mascara. It's just too much of an annoyance trying to keep it looking perfect and taking a mask on and off constantly. I think the main problem with UA-cam is short form video is the new craze and it seems many UA-cam communities struggle with making something with content but also short without burning out. A gaming UA-camr I used to watch was complaining about that recently that he's so sick of having to make multiple short form videos a day to keep up with tik tock. I personally prefer longer more meaningful videos I hope that style doesn't fizzle out completely.

It's kind of weird to see that we literally are, as you said, going full circle in so far as that the beauty makeup influencers from UA-cam are starting to come back, but the tick tock influencers are starting to lose their popularity. I have a feeling this is going to happen all the time because people change over the years. So it's like an endless cycle of TikToker versus UA-cam influencer 🤣 I wonder when all of us will decide it's time to call it quits if it does?

Meredith Roxbury is really stunning. But I don't follow any of these influencers anymore. I like James Welsh for skincare vids, John Maclean (bc his style of makeup artistry is top notch), Hindash (another professional makeup artist), Lisa Elridge, and personally, I love Skelotim, he does reviews on makeup & skincare, and hauls & anti-hauls, he has a great sense of humor & I love his honesty. There's a much smaller influencer named Supra that I enjoy also.
I also follow Trixie Mattel, Violet Chachki and Juno Birch. All are drag queen performers whose styles I have always appreciated. All of them have a unique look.
But that is a handful of people in the influencer sphere. Everyone else generally gives me sell out, cash grab to the max, vibes.
All these influences are terrible people and I couldn't care less if they fail or not

I don´t think he´s completely late for it but he is not going to get the success he thinks he is going to get. He is not as popular as he used to and even though he still has a lot of very young fans it´s not going to cause the same impact as it would a couple years back because a lot of people stopped supporting after seeing his behavior.
Right now it might look like a dodged bullet but the moment and time to release his brand was right after his palette released and with Morphe´s help. I would even say that instead of launching Morphe 2 they should´ve put that money on James´ brand.

I think a lot of people are saying he missed the boat not because he actually has but because it feels like he shouldn’t have the chance to be successful after his criminal behaviour. Unfortunately it seems to be that a large enough portion of his fans have forgiven him AND if he manages to get a deal with a bricks and mortar store to sell his products, he may very well pick up revenue from people who see the brand but don’t know his history. Also, people are getting back into make up again and if a new brand launches that has a good price point and interesting products, then there’s a solid chance that brand could find some success over the next 2-5 years.
I've been buying makeup for years.i have no interest in James or any other influencer. I'm buying from indie brands like Glamlite and Odens Eye. James couldn't pay ME to use his stuff.
