Ciara's cup is half-full. It's not half-empty. You can tell by her response that she is sad those things happened to her ancestors but she is just more appreciative that what they endured helped her to be in the position she is in now. It's a spiritual element that fills her. Plus some of her ancestors are White. When you know that your mind has to shift a bit.

All Black Americans descendants of slaves have white ancestors. R. Aping of our ancestors was very common and almost like a sport for white men.

That is how normal healthy people are supposed to be. Every group on earth has gone through some horrible things in their ancestry but they dont make that their identity or blame everything in it. This series just made me love Ciara even more. You can see even in her personal life. She had a baby with a loser but she she picked up her pieces and moved on to better. You never hear her identify with her past situation. Meanwhile her ex has never slept well since they broke up

I think it's shock, awe, AND the info is so staggering! How could she digest it right then on the spot and have a camera ready reaction. I would want to take everything home, re-read the reports, and sit with it. She's African American and highly unlikely to be surprised she descended from slaves.

It's white people who are quick to deny these things. The USA as a whole is desensitized to the everyday horrors that still continue. Racism, daily shootings and the media as a whole keeps people on such high alert. People just go through the motions of life. As people of color we are not surprised nor accepting of the cruelty that still continues.
