being a engineer for 14 years for CSX on the CV sub I can say this is the most realistic looking and sounding model I have ever seen keep up the good work
+travis hensley Model manufacturers are getting so good at what they're producing today that if they make them any more realistic companies will rely on models like these instead of the real ones. LOL.
I've seen several models of the Tehachapi Loop, and thanks to the close-up shooting and the sounds this one is by far the best. Watching this is better than looking a the model itself.
beautiful layout! Nicely done. I live in Bakersfield and have driven to most of the legal roads to watch the trains. My buddy has a house/ranch in Caliente right across from the tracks, great viewing spot, plus its cool to walk over and talk with the crews while there waiting for trains coming down from the loop.
The prototypical searchlight signal detailing and functionality truly adds to the realism of the appearance and sound of this layout. I honestly don't think there are many model layout videos that can match this one. At 5:48, the RED over GREEN indication matches with the way the points are set for a diverging movement......absolutely MARVELOUS!!!!
Great rail fanning of the layout. The sound editing was top notch making it more entertaining. Loved every minute of it. The layout sure has amazing scenes.
i'd be really bummed out if these consists were going a hundred miles an hour with all these awesome curves and what, good job on making all this realistic!! thanks for post
So cool! I can't believe that amounts of money some of you guys spend on this hobby!! When I first saw the BNSF line in central New Mexico, I thought I had to have a model train set up like that. HA! I can't afford even a few cars like those! Lets' see... 3 HO locomotives, almost $1, 000! Each car of rolling stock, about $30 - $50! It might be cheaper to buy Berkshire Hathaway stock instead.
Really doesn't matter. Just making a comment about the scene in the video. It really made for a great watch/view. I think people make to big of a deal out of counting a rivet. Everyone is capable of making a mistake, and I never had anyone to give me one red cent, because I could look at a loco and tell them what it was. But thanks for the comments. God bless you both.
I love the realistic sound effects. I'm new to the hobby, can you tell me your sound setup and point me to any resources for me to add this to my HO layout? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
I saw that too! I was wondering how painful a decision it was to do that while also admiring the realism. Some of the weathered locos also looked freakin awesome.
Oh you had to ruin Tehachapi by putting that NS crap in at the 8:08 mark. ;) Excellent video angles and sound! They really nailed the scenery and track bed. Awesome! Thanks for sharing.
Not unusual for foreign power to show up on a railroad. Either the NS unit was borrowed from them (UP needed extra power) or the unit is being used to pay back for a UP unit used on NS turf. Hours of usage have to be equalized.
This is my favorite layout that I've ever seen. Question, about how many cars are needed for the train to pass over itself on the layout vs the real life loop? Thanks!
is the sound the locomotive sound installed when you operate it. or is it a recording of a real locomotive then played while you operate your locomotives

the sounds are imported from real life they aren't the models themselves and you can tell because of the wind sounds not being possible in a building
Yeah and HO scale wheels don't squeal like that
This has got to be some of the best audio effects I've ever heard on model equipment before, and I've heard several.
Outstanding! I could watch hours of this! The shots, the sound, all of it... great job!

I like the weathering affects
That is just the most amazing layout ever!

Looks prototypical. very beautiful! I also wanted to do N scale but ended up doing 2 x 4 N scale. this hobby is great.
Sound effects are so great! specially, those related to the movement over the track.
Amazing! Superb artwork on the backdrop. I wish I had the talent to do the backdrop at our club layout like that. The real sounds are fantastic.
Outstanding video! Those weathered engines look amazing!
Oh my god. No words. Simply amazing.

wow! That's a really good video. love the sounds you add to the video.
Man...I felt like I was really looking at the real thing. This is absolutely Superb!
this layout has always been superb but adding the sound effects has made it even more so. Very nice video.
Great rail fanning of the layout. The sound editing was top notch making it more entertaining. Loved every minute of it.
The layout sure has amazing scenes.
Awesome video Josh! That is a huge place and layout. Thanks for sharing!
Great HO Rail fanning video.Awesome layout and models, thanks for uploading Josh.
I gotta know where these sound effects came from and how you matched them so well, this is amazing!
Very nice video! Great track side shots of the trains. Great job on editing sound into the video!
Randy
Holy crap! I clicked this without reading the title and I'm like: Wow these are nice catches! And thought it was real.
That's a excellent layout everything looked perfect
i'd be really bummed out if these consists were going a hundred miles an hour with all these awesome curves and what, good job on making all this realistic!!
thanks for post
+Dallin Davis I've notice that's what some modelers do. They operate them in an unrealistic manner.
Dallin Davis, if I recall, the highest speed limit on the La Mesa line is 40, and dips down to 15.
Absolutely stunning 😍 Thank you!
As always Josh has done an outstanding job.
Great footage.
The CSX unit on the head end is a nice touch
The audio dubbing is fantastic!
Absolutly awsome !!!!! Everything About It!!!!
Added to favorites....
Shared with many!
superb video, realistic speeds, excellent weathering *****
Nice video. Keep-em coming. You had a bunch of great shots.
Love seeing the NS unit!
Straight awesome!!!

I really enjoyed the view standing by the Blue locomotive in the middle of the video when the two had the meet! Great video! Thanks!
+Mark Turner That was a CSX SD70MAC
+John Robinson actually an ES44AH.

Austin McAdams I couldn't tell, my first guess was a CSX ES44AC/DC/AH... It was hard to see.
Guys. Don't take this too seriously. You will kill the fun. Doesn't matter if it was a pump cart. It was a great video.
nice layout , real detail to the scenery , nice op video thanks for sharing
Great video, i enjoyed watching it so look forward to your next production.
Regards
Greg
Impressive! Realistic speeds, smooth curves. Well done. Hope to visit once.

Great, greetings from Germany
please do run by shots of the entire trains, I would love to see how long they are and how many cars they have.
Excellent video of an awesome layout
wow the aging looks perfect, and this is my favorite model train video because you are the first i've seen to put graffiti on at 1:43
great video, but would of been nice to see longer clips of some of the engines
Absolutely Amazing
2:10 love that shot
Wow outstanding !
I love the realistic sound effects. I'm new to the hobby, can you tell me your sound setup and point me to any resources for me to add this to my HO layout? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Great video. Thanks!
Awesome Video Jason loved the dubed sound!!

Fantastic video!
AWESOME LOOKS SO REAL VERY NICE
Just really COOL!
Incredible!
Great video!
Fantastic!👍🏼👌🏽
So glad to be a railroader....GoUP
awesome video
love the realistic sound effects and layout, have you thought about adding Cajun pass to it
Very fabulous
I can't wait until I build my H.O. Train LAYOUT. I have eight big boxes of new train gear.
Nice video, Josh!
Amazing video!!!!
Are you using Paragon 2 or 3, the sound package is OUTRAGEOUS!
Very authentic!
That one locomotive had graffiti on it. 😂 Way to keep it as realistic as possible. Lol
I saw that too! I was wondering how painful a decision it was to do that while also admiring the realism. Some of the weathered locos also looked freakin awesome.
Did you guys also have Santa Fe Ry redo your tunnel portals for the double stack trains? >)
nice video

Grainexpress Norfolk southern baby!!!

Grainexpress NS RULES
This is my favorite layout that I've ever seen. Question, about how many cars are needed for the train to pass over itself on the layout vs the real life loop? Thanks!
TheSupradude26 about 40 cars in model and 50 in real life.
like them sounds one section y'all got birds chirping were they real?

Excellent video, looks quite realistic. One tiny critique, a tripod instead of handheld. 100% otherwise.
Great vide, great shots. Only thing I saw that stood out as unrealistic is the complete lack of graffiti. Can't get away from it in the real world.
I saw at least 2 spots with graffiti, on a BNSF GEVO at 1:45, and on some box cars at 4:20.
Is that a soundtraxx decoder in the locos?
NICE!!
Am doing a model railroad in the future
awesome vid! also man u should get a instagram

+Clinton Wurzbach I'd say about a 2.1.
Well, it IS Southern California!!! :P
Lol
Clinton Wurzbach 9
What do you use for the sound
part of me want to just wants to hear the original audio
Just 😊
Fake! Or, in this case, real! That is a real train moving through southern Quebec, north of the Saint Lawrence Seaway. I am not fooled!
I can't wait until I build my H.O. Train LAYOUT. I have eight big boxes of new train gear.
