Very informative video. I had heard about this way back in the mid 80's but never had the chance to do it to my 81, before I sold in in 2001 (250,000 and still ran great!) Waiting to see part 2
i dig this head swap. cant waint to see it run!i have done one of these swaps before and they put out better power. the friend i did it with ended up putting efi on it. bad ass stuff. thank you for showing everyone this swap not to many people know how easy this swap is.
we had to fab on the 20r head to take the 22-re intake, cam, exc. but it worked great when it was done. they also have aftermarket fuel injection for the 20r head but it's expensive.
Hey man I like the hybrid project! I didn't even notice how efficient the 20R runners were to the 22R intake. Very informative. Just curious, does the 20R really have a smaller combustion chamber? "Supposedly" its a cheap way to raise compression.
im going get me a 20r head, im going to try it i wonder if the when completed it will be reliable is before, i have a stock 22r truck with no prob,And Tommorrow Im getting Another Mini Truck Man I love those Older mini trucks espically a toyota
@natescraigslist You sure about those compression figures? They seem a little low. I had 5 thou machined off my 22R head and when I cc'd it the chambers cam out close to 9.7:1. That was also after I'd polished the combustion chambers. My vids of the engine are on here. Maybe US motors had lower compression to allow for different fuel grades.
need part2! Thanks also whats the reasoning for this conversion? More power? Ok but what does that mean exactly. And are there trade offs for doing it?
Btw the 22r from 81 to 83 have dual row timing and have the same bolt patterns as the 20r i'm not sure if you need am adapter cause i put a weber on mine
hey guys so i will hope to be finishing this build later this summer i had some life troubles as ive been wandering the west coast looking for a place to call home the 2nd part pf this vid will show the carb adaptor and the custom thermostat housing the build went very eassy i just had to reloacate and put the truck in storage so more to come summer of 2011
@nitsuamai sorry for the delay it willl happen tho carb adaptor custom thermo housing and putting the rest of it back together and explaining some basics of why youd want to do this build
Would the 22r intake manifold be able to fit on the 20r head? I understand the restriction of the 22r manifold but I dont like the idea of two loose sensors.
well i manage the mechanics at an atv rental dealership and have over 4 years dealership experiance with atvs in general, and i dont have to do it out of my house.....
@shorty5352 way to go like info on these 22rs i have 22re and convrted to webber carb like the performance way better now i have alot of extra parts now iam thinking about this head conversin sounds interesting project thanks
I am searching for a water neck that will work for my truck, someone already did the 20r/22r conversion but had a crap knockoff weber carb and i wanted to put the stock carb and mech fuel pump back on but when i did the water neck is too close to the fuel pump to work... ever find that part number?
I really enjoyed the video , watched it like ten times , ten years ago. hope things are going well. thanks again Elliott

i thought about this swap, but i decided to keep my 22r head a beef it with a comp cam and LCE valvetrain. badass underpowered 4 banger.

thats whats up!, this is the kinda guy who would invent Diesel exhaust fluid
Lovin' the great informative video. Very good walkthrough for the whole setup.
I'm sure guys on ToyotaNation and ToyotaMinis would love you on there!
the 80-82 22r engines still had double row chains too

Are you in Norcal, anywhere near Humboldt?
@nitsuamai sorry for the delay it willl happen tho carb adaptor custom thermo housing and putting the rest of it back together and explaining some basics of why youd want to do this build
nice build man👌👍 was wondering what gasket did you use? and is the 20 and 22r gasket the same? and can i use the 22r intake manifold on the 20r head?
what are the advantages of this

this is great stuff
whats the purpose of the hybrid it gets more power or what
GGGG761 higher compression
@@daltonjones4712 and better airflow. So yes. More power.
Hey,would you sell me your intake manifold?
what is that water neck part #
