If you're new here, my name is Stephen Learson and I'm a musician who works with many genres and many instruments - I especially love synthesizers and sound design. For more info visit my website: learsonpeak.com
Really love how your presented this Learson. 🙂
had a feeling i'd find you here x)
Great Demo, I owned one back in the early 80’s, I bought it new from a shop called SoundControl In Dunfermline Scotland, I remember it came with a cardboard cut out so you could programme sounds with the sliders. It was a lot of fun, especially the White Noise Jet Plane effects.
My big fat Korg wedding :-) great song man, congrats Steven !!
Brilliant demonstration, very well played - super song!!
Another super enjoyable video. Amazing how much juice you manage to squeeze out of that instrument. Your mixes sound sublime.
I have only been watching you a couple of times! Now I search for your synth reviews and enjoy your gift of putting them to work with some great beats.
Starting to be a fan! Keep up the good work!
I really like that synth! It has charm and character.
What an awesome video. Here I am trying to learn more about an obscure old string synth and stumble into a thoughtful review and a killer track! Thanks for making and sharing this :)
My first synthesizer was this Korg D50 Delta. I still own it from 1980 and still use it today. Solid!
I think this is the coolest synth demo video i've ever seen 👍🦀
Jaakko Jokela-Bergström thanks! Not sure I understand the meaning of the crab emoji 🦀
@@StephenLearson i use the 🦀 cause it's cool :)
Incredible finding this video, I still own a Korg Delta, past on to me from my Dad, it works great still, I didn't know if there was any more out there until I searched the internet......so cool...!!!
I stumbled upon your video by searching for info on Korg Delta. Since a few hours ago I've been rummaging through your channel and havent found anything I dislike so far - what a fantastic content over all! This find has been an excellent Xmas gift! Well done and Happy New 2023! 😃
This has just put a great big smile on my face ⚡️
Cool synth and amazing review! You are the best ❤️
I just got hold of one of these and your video explains everything really well. Thanks!
I have one since 40 years. It was sidelined many years. I tried it out again a few days ago and it still works fine. I'm a fan of its string sound, used them more rhan the synth-section. A few weeks ago, our band choosed the song Visage Fade To Grey for doing a cover-version. And I new that I have to reactivate the Delta for it. It sounds perfect for the main bassline in Fade To Gray. I personaly think, better than the original. But that's my taste. The string-sound is not like something you know or expect from other wellnone stringmachines or Roland or Oberheim synths. It is very special and unique. But thats what I like it. You will never hear this kind of sound from somewhere else.
Just dug my Delta out of storage and then stumbled onto your video. Still functioning! Not sure what I'm gonna do with it. Gonna enjoy it for a little while, rediscover its awesomeness! Awesome demo, awesome video production and song! Loved it! Thanks!
Lovely, informative and fun demo! Thank you.:)
Awesome review 😎🤘🏻🎹 I’m a huge fan of korg and Yamaha synthesizers(I do love both brands) and this synth sounds really nice. I do dig the sound quality and the unique features it has.
Dude. I swear I think that used to be my delta. It had that same music note sticker on it. I sold it in 2016 to a guy from Brooklyn and his girlfriend. You buy it after that?!
IceOnTitan It sounds like it could have been yours. I bought it from a guy who just moved from Brooklyn, and I met his girlfriend too.
@@StephenLearson Ah man, sentimental feelings are surging. 100% sure that was my Korg when I used to be in a band.

Treat it like the goddess she is.
@@joshbenash5230 Lovely to see a story like this. Take care.
Great video. Great demonstration. Great song. Subbed
Love that song!
If I'd known how good it was at the time I would have bought it. I drooled over the Korg catalog it was in for a long time but then none of these where to be found in a shop so I underestimated it purely on its specs. In the end I bought the Korg Mono/Poly, which I never regretted. It as off course only 4 voice but much more flexible. Still the, very much cheaper, Delta would surely have sufficed for all my early poly needs. As your track so eloquently proves. Nice one!
Grazie!
I have been to this song for about 30 times in two days now, and every time I feel surprised at the beginning of the song (although I am prepared for what's coming) where the rhythm sets me on the wrong track, until the drums kick in. I like that.
Phranque Peasant ear worm 🐛
@@StephenLearson Yeah. The kind of earworm I like. Unlike the corona earwworm I hear the entire day on telly. Keep on going with the good stuff.
...or the earworm from Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan. Hate those.
And you’ve made it sound good ;) super cool song !
The song is just beautiful. The synth has always been on my list of sexy sounding synths. Lovely
Beautiful playing.
I have one I bought new in the 80s. It still works. It's cool.
what a beautiful wedding man, and the song is awesome. btw love the sneakers
Andre Tibian haha, chucks for life!
Wow!!!! That’s the best sounding Korg Delta I’ve ever heard! Congrats, terrific job 👏🏼👏🏼 Did I not mention that the demo song is gorgeous?
great song, reminds me a bit of Level 42. we've had a broken delta for ages that we never bothered to refurbish because its likely the cost of the repair will exceed the value of the synth, but sometimes its not about the money. after watching this video and a couple others, i think its time to refurbish it.
thanks for sharing!
Glad I found your channel! Subscribed
this was my first synth to play around with back in 1981. I still have the cover and hope to find an affordable one someday. Thank you for the video!
JJ DeKay best of luck finding one. I was lucky enough to score this one super cheap.
I have one since 10 years but I never undertood his power. Great review.
I love this synth. When I heard your song I put it on my wish list. I hope to find one, which is not that expensive. 😅
Congrats - nice content and nice wedding :)
Excelente sinte de Korg
Wundervoll
...whenever i'm seeking info on some vintage synth and i see a Learson Peak vid, my search is over. As always, simply great playing, superb communication skills, and solid production all around.
i would subscribe immediately, but you can only do that once. Stay well. Keep creating.
Great music and super informative. Thank you for sharing! Trying to figure out if the Delta is a necessary acquisition given I already have a Paraphonic RS-505...this thing seems to have its own character though.
Nice job dude....
Dude I came in expecting string sounds or something like a Yamaha sk-15 but holy shit, this sounds crazy. I didn’t expect the bass sounds at all.
The synth part is pretty cool and "advanced" for a cheap ensemble synth.
Strings are on the cheesy side. It's very different from the Yamaha's, they are big, good at the ensemble stuff,
but can't do much synhesis. SK-30 has the mono synth.
Delta is a pretty cool "poly" synth that can do the cheesiest Solina like strings of them all as extra.
I had a Korg Delta and a MonoPoly as well.
I want one.
Thanks for sharing this. Great demo and great playing! What delay are you using? Sounds fab.
I like your song. Very catchy. And the Delta is just fantastic. Just put a big reverb under it or a phaser like the small stone.
This synth sounds like my childhood.
Some strings! I didn't even hear the effect of the ensembler '' If there was one!. On the other hand. You have a fair combo organ
Would be awesome to move the volume switch over to sit right above the joystick, that would let you left-hand it for some dynamics. I assume its not velocity-sensing?
It was used by the human league on dare and a flock of seagulls on their first two albums. I listened again to dare and I can't really pick it out except for maybe I am the law and the chord counterpoint ( not the stabs) from don't you want me. But I could be way off
Good to see a different view on this. Every other review I've seen has said that the strings are the amazing part and the synth is niche and barely usable.
Enjoyed your video, enjoyed the song, I'm amazed you got such great sounds out of that thing. I had one and used it for years. I really hated it. That was around 1982-3. The problem was that I had just got the juno 6, and then I was gifted a fender Rhodes, a multivox, bass pedals and of course the delta. I never really got into it, the juno was the main thing.
I should have gave it a little more respect.
KM Music Juno Vs Delta is like a bear vs a platypus
@@StephenLearson couldn't put it better.
Hi Super MarioLearson Peak! I like very much analog synths from the past. Do you think it's valuable still today invest in that having such a great vst emulations like Arturias, NI, U-he, and so on...
Thanks man for such a great video! Nice to meet your channel
Hey, Steven! Hope you're doing good today, even if you're doing none at all. Have you seen Full Bucket Music's VST versh of the Delta? It has an extra feature not seen in the original synth: GOD MODE. This means an actual polyphony mode, wherein the envelope always retriggers when you press any other keys as if there are an infinite number of them.
Kobe Dancil Coo haven’t checked it out. I think all synths should have a GOD MODE
whats the software name of the oscilloscope?
Nice video dude, Korg we need a new Korg Delta 2020
lol @ Nick batt 😂
heres hoping Korg will do a reissue at some point
@wesley wild Yes Full Bucket Nabla. Great one that!
So is PWM now the only standard by which an old Analog is to be judged? I wonder if the effect of adding in the harmonics with the 16' 8' 4' 2' sliders isn't fairly similar to PWM?
Yes, I believe PWM is the gold standard
Did you buy this off if eBay? I sold mine and the joystick was missing like yours
Fred Hand I bought mine on Craigslist. The top of my joystick is broken but it still works.
@@StephenLearson mine was just like that the top broken off with a threaded bolt sticking out
@@StephenLearson you deserve a lot more followers because your content is excellent. I had this machine and I focused on the string part which sounds very organ-like. In my stupidity I didnt even fully appreciate the polyphonic synth aspect of it. I sold it. Have you ever tried the roland sh 201? I would be really curious to see what you could do with it.
Fred Hand thanks. I’ve never owned a 201, but I’ve played one a few times. It wasn’t for me.
@@StephenLearson I thought I read it was kind of modeled after the junos but is sounds very D50 ish in a bad way. Some people swear they are good because it is essentially the analogue modeling part of the v synth. Very metallic sounding I guess?
I really liked it.. but I’ll wait for the Behringer polyphonic testing apparatus :DDD
no
btw, I received a bunch of joystick caps, a friend of mine workshoped them very carefully so they fit the screw inside the joystick axis perfectly, i paint them black and used them on the sigma ua-cam.com/video/Z3B0PKVTSXI/v-deo.html&t even with the elbows ua-cam.com/video/Rp-xcJuPEYo/v-deo.html the Delta and Sigma look desolate without em
don't mix the drum machine louder than the synth
