Hope you feel better soon, Dave. I never gave much thought to the wheels being there. I noticed them at the beginning, then promptly forgot about them. I figured they were just some furure project.
I thought Diane was in the video to supervise your work. Now I see she was likely just checking in to see how you were doing;-) Get some rest as those summer colds are nothing to fool with.
Get well soon Dave! Hope you get the cold sorted out soon enough. Was nice seeing Diane walking around in the background and then coming closer. Looks like she was having an eye on you? And thank you for another video showing us the "little" job in the background. You have put some work in them now and again it seems from the clips. The old felly being off and you having a steam bent piece of wood ready to put on.
An afternoon siesta is very refreshing! I always look beyond what your working on to see what’s lurking in the background, figured you would get to them when time allowed.
It always amazes me how accurate you are with your hammer blows, especially with your horseshoeing hammer. You never seem to miss (or is that sneaky editing). Anyway asummer colds are no fun, I have one too. Sleep, rest and get well.
Thank you for your videos!!! I know that you didn’t feel good But the video was still Excellent!! I hope you are feeling better already!!!!! God Bless !!
Hey Dave, get well soon! I just noticed you are peddling coffee mugs, so I bought one. Shipping was not over the moon, as I thought it would be. Now I await delivery and drinking my morning coffee from a real Engels Coach Shop mug!
I have been watching and enjoying your videos probably since I was the age you are now, and I am now 86.! Like you I always enjoyed my work which was the restoration of vintage cars. Because the work entails being a 'Jack of all trades' it seldom if ever became boring. Even days spent rubbing down endless coats of paint ,allowed at least your mind to be elsewhere! This bring me to the subject of paint I served my apprenticeship with a commercial coachbuilding firm, and at that time a high proportion of the work was coach painting ie with a brush for those unfamiliar with the term. I am English, so you may call it something different in the States.! We always started with a pink wood primer, which was not only quite thin, but probably more to the point dried very much slower than even undercoat, thus giving it time to sink into the wood. Indeed at that time if you bought say a new window frame it was always ready primed. Today nobody has the time or the patience, as it must dry in minutes and for the most part now be water based! Clearly your thinning down top coat to use as a primer serves a similar purpose as the old wood primer method, as born out by your bench and door frame examples.! Finally your shop is nearly as familiar to me now as it must be to you and of all the various tools etc that you have the one thing that from the first time I saw it , even to this day makes me smile at it's simplicity and efficiency, is the device you use with the two oxyacetylene torches and electric motor to heat the tyres. Which of course in 'Americaneze' should read tires! Thank you, with best wishes to you and your wife. Peter Redman
Im glad that you got a chance to try out that bed, for you do not want it to be uncomfortable for the owner, sounds like it passed.Hope you can shack off that cold
I have empathy for you as I am suffering from a summertime cold also. Just like you I can get something done and then need a rest. A nap in the sheep herder's wagon, how cool. Take care of yourself.
Summer colds always just beat you to death, I feel for you right now because I just got over one myself. But I gotta admit, it was a pretty good excuse to take a nap in that sheep wagon. I kinda envy you for that 😉 take care
“Nothing makes a person more productive, than the last minute”, that’s what I wrote in my son’s high school yearbook! Go have some Chicken Soup, plenty of water and rest! Feel better, Hey Diane!
You should let Diane know before the next time she happens to walk into the background while you are filming, it is OK to walk on in and join us watching you work. Of course the Engels fan club will be very supportive of her.
That’s ok , take a nap. I don’t have the energy that I used too, either. It’s very frustrating too, I had the Chinese election flu in ‘21, my comeback is very slow and labored. But, don’t stop!
Hope you have your energy back and feeling up to par by now. Never noticed those yellow tires till you said something about them. You held my interest so good on what you were doing that my eyes never wondered and paid attention to anything but what you were doing. Glad you got them done and out of there before long when you get the finishing touches done. Stay safe and hope the nap in the sheep herders wagon was a good one. Fred.
As soon as you said "a quick nap" I said "two hours later..." Diane was very sweet for not cutting in the meme .Gif file... Glad you were taking it easy. Resting was a good call. Seems like the bedroom part of the sheep wagon functions as designed! Wagonwright tested and approved.
What happened to that "Iron Man Constitution"???? LOL I had a similar experience near the first of April. Thanks to a four year old step great-grandson!!!!!
Those summer colds can really take it out of you. Glad you had a nice long nap; obviously you needed it! Feel better soon, sir. Hi to Diane; saw her in the background a couple of times.
Get well, Dave! And you know what they say about a cold: If you treat the symptoms, they go away in 10 days; if you ignore the symptoms, they go away in a week and a half. Summer colds are THE WORST!
I made a suggestion probably 5 years ago that I'll bring up again. Even though there is a very strong satisfaction peining rivets by hand, When you are tired, sore, sick, sore shouldered and just need to get the job done, you can cut the end off of an air chisel and make a rivet header out of it. I usually heat it up red hot and hit it on an appropriately sized ball bearing to create the divot. Then you can harden it and temper to a straw color. This will allow you to use your air chisel to quickly and easily set/head your rivets.
There is a Yellowstone tour wagon in the Coker Museum in Chattanooga, TN. It is quite large and impressive. Not sure, but I recall it hauled 12-16 people: maybe more. My understanding is they are not used any longer at Yellowstone, thus this one salvaged and in a museum. Thanks.
I dearly hope you get over your summer cold soon. What it the purpose of the rivets through the fellows? I understand the rivets (bolts?) through the tires. With a fresh coat of paint those wheels will look terrific. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe. Give a big hello to Diane. She made a brief appearance while you were setting tires.🙂🙂
You take care of yourself. At some point we all have to acknowledge that we can't now do what we used to do 30 years ago and be our own best friend. But, it was nice to see a wheel video and I hope you'll be back to 100% soon.
Hope you’re on the mend soon. Having a little summer cold myself, certainly lowers the steam in my boiler. Good that you got the first snooze in the sheep wagon. You deserve it😊
Hey Dave hope you get better soon. If you need a 30 min vid while you are on a break the Ford Motor Com did a film in the 1930 s all about how they made the Model T s spoked wheels It is on youtube thanks for all your vids I liked the Borax Wagon the best and them driving the team was amazing Thanks again
When it's in the shop & available, you may as well use the "sleep" wagon. Noticed the boss back there watching you so I guess she was concerned about you. Nice to see the 2 of you together sharing a moment. God bless & get well soon.
@4:19 I can almost hear Diane back there thinking "'bout time you got round to those yellow ones!" :) Hope you get to feeling better soon...those summer colds can wear ya out pretty quickly.
Hope you get to feel better quickly. These Friday afternoon videos are always a great way to head to the weekend. Thanks, Dave.
summer colds sure zapp the energy, Regards Doug
Hope you feel better soon, Dave. I never gave much thought to the wheels being there. I noticed them at the beginning, then promptly forgot about them. I figured they were just some furure project.
You have honed the operation of setting the tyres to perfection ..admire your grit .....working when you are not 100% !!
I thought Diane was in the video to supervise your work. Now I see she was likely just checking in to see how you were doing;-) Get some rest as those summer colds are nothing to fool with.
Thank you
Get well soon Dave! Hope you get the cold sorted out soon enough.

Rest up over the weekend! Hopefully Monday you'll be ready to get at it!

Feel better!!!
Very cool!! You can hear the rim getting tight and drawn in @6:40..
You get well soon. sounds like a very good excuse for a rum and green ginger wine

Hope you’re feeling better.
Get well soon Dave! At our age (73) we can take off when we want to. We are at a tender age and have to look after ourselves.
That’s ok , take a nap. I don’t have the energy that I used too, either. It’s very frustrating too, I had the Chinese election flu in ‘21, my comeback is very slow and labored. But, don’t stop!

Your videos are great. Very relaxing. And great for a before-bed video.
The definition of a nap is 2 hours. From someone laying on the couch under the ceiling fan
Thanks Mr. and Ms. Engel !!!!
Get well soon!
Get well soon, Dave.

I see that 'The Boss' came to see that you were OK.
Praying for your speedy recovery. Thanks, Dave.
I'm 80, I know about energy!
Take care and be sure to rest and hydrate!
Pretty good timing, I must say... Painting these wheels yellow, just in time for the yellow pin striping on the spreader! 👍. 💕🌞🌵😷
Espero que te mejores pronto.
Naps are a good thing and I had a short one while watching this video so had to rewind. :)
You take care of yourself. At some point we all have to acknowledge that we can't now do what we used to do 30 years ago and be our own best friend.
But, it was nice to see a wheel video and I hope you'll be back to 100% soon.
Call me odd, but I still like watching wheel videos 😊
Hope you’re on the mend soon. Having a little summer cold myself, certainly lowers the steam in my boiler. Good that you got the first snooze in the sheep wagon. You deserve it😊
The bed in the sheep wagon must be comfy and cozy. Two hour nap? You earned it.
Hey Dave hope you get better soon.
