Not sure how you manage to get this many ultra-talented musicians in one band and come up with such a cohesive sound. Cake is one of the best ever and probably always will be.
This band is by far the best band out there. They have great lyrics, and noone sounds like them. But I have to say, if you haven't seen CAKE live, you are missing out on an experience. They shine LIVE. Simply amazing.
Saw them do this in January of this year. Five years later and they are still spot-on! Love them basically telling the audience to "Go to Hell" and everyone is in Heaven listening to them!
Fasion nugget is one of my favorite records of all time!!! We used to bomb around town in my cousins 1970 Barracuda and listen to The Distance all day, GOOD TIMES!!!!
I had the pleasure of seeing them at UC Davis in the Freedom Hall I think in 2012, small, intimate venue. Of course I wore a short skirt and a long jacket! They are so incredibly tight, I was amazed. It was cool because he said something like "you probably noticed that there was no opening band on your ticket-well that;s because WE are the opener! Yes, Cake is opening for Cake!" And they did the show, went on break then came back and spent some more time with us. Love them so much! The thinking man's band! That is able to also not take themselves TOO seriously and laugh at themselves, and even their own success!!! Good people!!
thats probably the good thing about thier live act, the singer put a sorta bluesy style into his singing pattern, waiting that half a bar to sing a lyric with a sort of attitude attached to it, its one of the things i personally love about cake
Not sure if its me getting older or if its just a change in taste of music, used to hate when live performances widely deviated from the studio version. Cake's live performances just feel real. It feels like this is the way the studio versions should have been.
i love cake. They are currently my favorite band. They have a lot of variety in the music they play. There is something for every mood. "Sheep go to Heaven" is a good song when you're upbeat and "Frank Sinatra" is a good song when you're in a sorta melancholy mood.
Uhm.. for a band as funky as Cake the audience is standing pretty still.. i would've been raving and singing and dancing like a loon if i had the chance to see them live :D
The true greatness of Cake is that they go for style over flashiness. They let the songs sort of mold themselves into what the music naturally wants to be. Bravo!
every time they they come out with a new album.. I'm freaked out.. like what happened to Cake. then second time through I'm completely blown away.. Have and love every single album
It was amazing. I was working at this stupid chicken place and hating every minute of it then i heard this come on the radio and then i was happy and wanted to stay hoping it would play more cake. Cake makes people happy. The food and this awesome band.
@@lucadifiore8680 Awesome! What an artist. This whole band rocks not a weak player in the group. And their sounds compliment each other so well you can make out each individuals performance. It's like a symphony
I have seen hundreds of concerts, but the best one I have been to was last summer at the fair, the stuffed hot shitty venue was not even an issue with cake playing, it was the BEST show I have ever been to, I was crying like a bitch when they took the stage...
Dude when you play live you're bound to mess up sometime. The great thing about Cake is that John will take creative liberties with the song, like having the singing match a different beat than the original.
CAKE in Cambridge.. eons, 10 yrs? ago :( a smallish gorgeous restored theatre. Bounced & Sang & Sang & Bounced & Sweated, & More Cowbell & Trumpet & MORE EVERTHING! it was Arco Arena & No Phone, I'm a Dime, & all that funky, jazzy, bluesy stuff. ♤♡◇♧☆¤●¿?
lol. I KNOW. i wished they played the cover of I will Survive also. I loved when they played short skrit and long jacket and everyone was doing the "nana nana nananana". and when the lead singer was talking about the ppl who were "energy surfers" LMAO.
So was I...Dude, what a sick concert. I wish they played Sheep and Nugget, but it was still a fucking sweet concert. Best was definitely Comfort Eagle, when the entire audience hollared Dude during the chorus. Or Never There when they did the same thing
Everything about this band was unique, fun to watch and dance to, perhaps most reminiscent of Velvet Underground mixed with Norteño. Their music videos look like they were made for $5 -- but are more clever and engaging than 90% of other bands that play in clubs and bars. John McCrea had that "cool bandleader vibe," akin to Greg Kihn and Steve Miller. Would love to see them perform...
@AnyoneButSeagulls I almost shit bricks after reading this, because I was seriously watching BTBAM Colors Dvd before looking up live Cake performances, love them both.
you know who I am in awe of? the sound man. because every instrument is bang on, and I can hear them all great. congrats to the production staff.
I've seen them once, and I think their stage volume is very low.
Not sure how you manage to get this many ultra-talented musicians in one band and come up with such a cohesive sound. Cake is one of the best ever and probably always will be.
not a truer statement my friend!
So classic. One of the best bands from California in history. Trumpet player motivated me to play. So much style and substance.
This band is by far the best band out there. They have great lyrics, and noone sounds like them. But I have to say, if you haven't seen CAKE live, you are missing out on an experience. They shine LIVE. Simply amazing.
Subjective as this statement is, I think Cake has produced the most original/unique music ever
I totally agree with you, even tho they're not my most favourite band
I agree, comfort eagle, frank Sinatra, and sheep go to heaven and many more are such unique songs
lead guitar player is so precise
Cake. Best band on the planet earth?
Saw them do this in January of this year. Five years later and they are still spot-on! Love them basically telling the audience to "Go to Hell" and everyone is in Heaven listening to them!

Holy crap... the trumpet is awesome. I want to play this on my trombone/baritone since I don't have a trumpet... :)
I had the pleasure of seeing them at UC Davis in the Freedom Hall I think in 2012, small, intimate venue.
Of course I wore a short skirt and a long jacket!

Miss Freeborn Hall.
man this band is the shit!! good god they are all "ON" in this gig. never have I been this impressed...spread the word people.
thats probably the good thing about thier live act, the singer put a sorta bluesy style into his singing pattern, waiting that half a bar to sing a lyric with a sort of attitude attached to it, its one of the things i personally love about cake

the breakdown is amazing.... gotta love cake for getting the whole audience to chant go to hell all calm sounding for like 2 minutes lol
I've been lucky enough to see Cake 3 times now, and like the comment below they SHINE live!
i love cake. They are currently my favorite band. They have a lot of variety in the music they play. There is something for every mood. "Sheep go to Heaven" is a good song when you're upbeat and "Frank Sinatra" is a good song when you're in a sorta melancholy mood.
October 7th!!! Davis CA!!!!! Driving 10 hours!!!! FUCKING WORTH IT!
that's one of the greatest thing about cake. they do everything different
Uhm.. for a band as funky as Cake the audience is standing pretty still.. i would've been raving and singing and dancing like a loon if i had the chance to see them live :D
The true greatness of Cake is that they go for style over flashiness. They let the songs sort of mold themselves into what the music naturally wants to be. Bravo!
I love how good they are live!

Saw them do this last night in Nashville! The guitarist had the same shirt on ! LOL!! Unbelievably fantastic performance!
Why do I have to cry like a baby everytime I hear Frank Sinatra?
If you're talking about switching the words 'smile' and 'laugh', it is always performed live that way.
Cakes from Sacramento, I live in Sac. Im proud knowing such a good band formed here. I really would like to go see them.
Love the buildup at the end of Sheep. The interview is pretty sweet too.
CAKE is amazing
Love it, the genius of incorporating a Ennio Maricone Spaghetti Western-ish is the best.
Very nice, they rock live, amazin
It was amazing. I was working at this stupid chicken place and hating every minute of it then i heard this come on the radio and then i was happy and wanted to stay hoping it would play more cake. Cake makes people happy. The food and this awesome band.
Gotta see these guys
Geniuses indeed, this is amazing.
you know the band is awesome when there is a trumpet used

I agree. I would love it if CAKE came to Victoria's new venue :D
So was I...Dude, what a sick concert. I wish they played Sheep and Nugget, but it was still a fucking sweet concert. Best was definitely Comfort Eagle, when the entire audience hollared Dude during the chorus. Or Never There when they did the same thing
I've never heard of either of those places.
I like the Sheep Go to Heaven Goats Go to Hell Part
