Use a lighter to melt the ends of string to keep them from fraying, that way you don't have to keep trimming them.

Really really helpful video. We went to specialist curtain shop to buy replacement string, and were told that it was an extremely difficult job, and should either just buy a new rail or get an expert in. Thanks to this video, it's all fixed for the £4 cost of the replacement string :-). Thanks very much

This video was gold! My curtain cord snapped and I was going to buy a whole new assembly because I couldn't remember how to string it. Buying some new cord and following this video was an awful lot cheaper! Thanks very much for taking the time to make it.

Thanks so much from the UK! Fiddly but brilliantly explained. I had to do it with curtain rail in situ and even managed that. Would never have worked it out on my own. Tip - I wrapped some sellotape around the end when feeding it through as it kept fraying.

Excellent. However, on my rod there is a small hook on the second master carrier that the cord has to be looped around. That step is missing from the video, probably because on this rod there isn't one. Should be at about 5:25 into the video.

Thank you so much for making this video. I thought I was going to have to buy a new traverse curtain rod, but when I watched this, I bought a $5 replacement cord and gave it a shot. I had to start over a couple of times, but your instructions are so precise, that even I, one of the most un-handy people around, was able to get it eventually. 😁 You did the entire job in 10 minutes, but it took me about 1-1/2 hours to finish. Thanks for the tutorial! Much appreciated.

Mr. Willis- My sliding glass door Traverse rod is different. It is one of the decorative round ones with the little ball on the ends. When I take it down, will it be pretty much the same restringing as this? I sure hope so, because another one exactly like it is over $200.00. I'd appreciate any information you can give me. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I want to replace the cord on my Integra iPole Glyda curtain pole, as the cord supplied hangs just 1 metre from the pole. Can you recommend what type of cord should be used? Does it matter whether it's Nyloñ or Polyester? Does it have to be braided or what? Thanks for you advice

Very clear explanation but it would be necessary to remove the entire track from under its pelmet to replace the cord because it would be too hard to thread the cord through etc working from such and awkward angle, with the pelmet etc, standing on a chair etc, plus I am scared of heights. Easier to simply get an expert to do this job for me.Trouble is, finding one who will even do such a small job. I approached some but they would only fo it if I had toreplace all cords on all my windows, to make it worth their while. I only needed one replaced, so the broken cord is still that way, after a couple of years, unable to find anybody who can do this little job where I live. Anybodyvwould think there was no unemployment, no small businesses in the window coverings industry in need of a dollar, after the bad economic impact of Covid on small businessesin Australia.

    Handy tips:
    1. use Blue Tac on the tip of the cord to keep it tidy. Once your job is done, remove the blue tac.
    2. Alternatively, use a gas lighter to melt the tip of the cord. This way the tip of the cord doesn't tear as you work with it.

This looks tricky, but I'll give it a try. What bothers me is you never showed the cord ends after you were done. Is it a loop to go around a tension pulley like my system? Or two separate cords to open and close? And if a loop, how do you ensure that the length fits the tension pulley ?

im having a hard time with my curtain rod... i have an old drape rod with the two pieces in the middle that open and shut the drapes sort of like stage drapes... I wonder if i could create a video response and maybe you could help me fix it.. the string broke years ago but it still opened and shut. well i studied and studied b4 taking the old cord out. i put in nylon rope and the two pieces move together at the same time lol would it be ok to create a video response? I could use some advice!

And leave extra cord on the pull side and put the rod back up before you try to center the master carriers. Hold on to the pull cord while locking the underlap master carrier. Then shorten pull cord by pulling out the knotted cord closest to the pull side.

  • @chuckwallace6821

Why didn't he start by feeding the end of the cord thru the hole in the overlap master carrier first and then down to the pulley? That would have saved him one fishing the cord thru the hole event.

Thank you! I had an old rod I'd never used before whose cord was in 2 pieces. I decided to try knotting the first side of the main traverse and follow his directions to the 2nd traverse. Then I knotted it in the left side and knotted the new cord on the right side. Continued as specified and then knotted the 2nd cord on the right side of the 1st traverse gathering up all the slack. It worked!!

Excellent video! My track was a bit different but I thought it would work on the same principle. I followed your instructions looking for similar features on mine and was successful. My track was harder to feed the cord through even with the paper clip. I wrapped a bit fine wire round the cord and pushed the wire through dragging the cord with it. Thank you so much for this video, I had no idea how to re-string the curtain rail and was about to throw it out.
