I think it's more likely she was trapped in the dream like Link was. She mentions dreaming of flying over the sea. It was probably memories, and you'll notice there were two seagulls in all endings, which I think are Marin and Tarin.

I had this game on my gameboy pocket now the Dx version Rom for my boy and loving it started playing seasons and ages that takes place right after i also started the switch version on links awakening to such a great time in the zelda world hope they remake ages and seasons next from 8 years old to 31 now the game still makes me excited so cool to read the comments
I played the original on my gameboy pocket so many times and never knew there was a secret ending. I didn’t even realize what the numbers meant on the save file. I never got a chance to play the Dx version either. Super happy to have played it on Switch. Going through a replay now.
happy 30th anniversary the legend of zelda: link's awakening!!! :3 with how they switched the remake to being before the oracle games would've liked in it's ending maybe zelda picking him him up on her own ship/seeing the islands in the distance as the original's was a bit dark not knowing if link ever found land.

If I could work on a Zelda game. I would bring back the dream world. Like if there’s a big zelda title. They could make Link be put to sleep through curse or magic by an enemy. And when Link is about to get killed through his dreams. Marin would come through as a seagull, assist Link and Link would wake up and continue the main adventure. The little moment would be a nod to the veteran and new zelda players and we would at least know that Link still remembers his Dream.

As great as this game was on the Switch, it felt like it lost a lot of its difficulty. Game was hard in 2D, but one it moved to 3D it felt like it was on easy mode. I rarely died vs the DX version.
I was an adult when I played it on the Game Boy. Didn't stick with me. I think you had to be That Age for an emotional impact. Played the remake and it's cute but very underwhelming. People cry for Marin, but Link's marooned on the sea and might die the slow death of a rat in a trap. He's hallucinating. That's the real tragedy. Screw those dream dorks.
I also played it as an “adult” by age but my soul is still of a kid. I never let the hits that life gave me to destroy my inner child . I am sorry that happened to you.

Also, I played the original in my twenties and am now in my forties. I thought perhaps time and the update would make a difference. There are many entertainment products I tried at one point and didn't care for, then waited awhile and ended up loving. This one I realized was probably one of those you had to be a child to appreciate the most. It has a childlike quality about it that's fine, just not what I love about this franchise I've worshiped since the late '80s. I'm not sure why that's difficult to understand.
