This video will be helpful for you not only if you accidentally deleted data but also in case you need to recover your WD external hard drive after format, you cannot access your WD external hard drive through Windows File Explorer. Or you don’t need to know how to recover WD external hard drive but you rather want to check deleted files.
First of all, just as always, we recommend that you stop using your WD hard drive to prevent further data loss and to increase your chances of successful Western Digital external hard drive recovery.
How to recover data from a Western Digital external hard drive:
1. Download, install and open Disk Drill. Do not install Disk Drill on the WD hard drive that faced data loss.
2. Select your Western Digital hard drive and click Search for lost data.
3. Click Review found items when the scan has finished. Review what items were discovered.
4. Select what data you want to recover from the WD drive. The Recovery chances column will indicate how likely it is that the data can be recovered. When ready, click Recover.
5. Choose a recovery location.

You should really make it clear that you can only recover 500mb! That seems kinda sketchy that you hide a nearly $100 price to save peoples important files in your video.

This helped me! Thanks so much. I was able to recover over 2.12 TB (260,625 files). Mostly cell phone photos and videos for the last 8 years. Anyhow. I had to upgrade my iCloud storage for the 2tb plan (at $9.99) for the month to be able to store the photos for the short term. All things said, this was the only thing that worked for me, and I was so devastated to have almost lost all these files. What did I do to lose the files in the first place? I got a MacBook 13" a few days before the 15" came out (because I knew I didn't want the bigger one). Well guess what? Turns out I did want that bigger one, and I'd already set up my MacBook the way I wanted, so I used the hard drive to back it up, not realizing that I had formatted and erased the hard drive in the process. This process has taken 7 hours and 11 minutes so far and I have a few hours to go. Big learning lesson!!! Thanks again, I'm just happy to have the photos back!

Hey, great video. I have a really old WD ext HD from around 2004ish. I plug it into the lap top and it lights up with the inner workings making whirring noises. However, it doesn't get recognised at all on my laptop?

I have used a Western Digital My Passport to back up my Lenovo Yoga 510 which was done successfully...I had to do a factory reset of the Lenovo, which was done successfully, however I now want to retrieve the data from the WD drive....when I plugged the WD back in to retrieve the data on it back to the Lenovo, the screen that I am getting is not showing all the data that I had backed up...as a precaution, I also back up the folders seperatly onto the same WD drive in case I had to reload them individually...I thought I should still be able to retrieve files from the WD ext HD after a factory reset?

Thanks for the video. When I connect my WD external HDD nothing shows up in disk management. As soon as I disconnect it, other drives show up. Last time it became full, almost nothing left free. It's a 2TB MY PASSPORT ULTRA. Could the issue be the HDD being full?

I have a Transcend 1TB ex. drive which In tried to format and suffered a power outage (Common occurrence her in South Africa) now I cannot access the drive but the drive size shows.
The fact that the drive couldn't be mounted normally was probably caused by something that went wrong with the directory. You can probably still recover files. Please, scan it with the free version of Disk Drill to check.

Your SD card should be detected by the OS (show up in Finder or Disk Utility) for Disk Drill to be able to work with it.

My issue is a physical one. I have an older 750 GB. Yes, before the 1 TB ones came out. Somehow the plug in to the hard drive came off around the cord plug in. I have the case off. Do I need to solder the plug in piece back on?

My problem is totally new! Although it happens to me once and I thought it was a glitch, but it seems like it's happening again and I cannot find the reason so I avoid this issue!
I use 3-4 WD passports one the same PC but I connect only one per mission, and sometime I connect two at the same time to move data between them. The problem is that suddenly and out of nowhere one of the passport shows folders from the other passport and its original folders are gone. Not only this! It also doesn't allow me to open the wrong folders in it. It just make me crazy!!! How it's possible that the data of Passport-1 disappears and all I see are folders from Passport-2. And Passport-2 is working fine and shows its folders normally.
Okay I'll pay to recover the data, but it keeps on happening and I have not idea how to avoid it. Please help!

Disk Drill can only recover lost data, but it doesn't separate or remove infected files. In your case it might make sense search for a anti malware utility.
My western digital passport backed up to a duplicate passport in the form of one .tibx file. That Disk Drill just presents that same .tibx file in the result. What do I do to get Disk Drill to open that file? I'm really feeling like swearing off backups completely and just copy one hard drive to another. Hello, my issue is that all of a sudden from working with no problem to suddenly having issues watching the movie and it got choppy , then the wd passport suddenly became very slow , I unplugged it from my iPad and plugged to MacBook latest softwares running , trying to back up a 4gb file now takes over 6 hours and so I have a feeling it’s failing even tho it passed first aid test … I just want to move the files to another drive or the laptop. In this case, it is best to send the faulty drive to your nearest repair center.

Sure. You can use another external drive in this case.

I'm looking through my files on the WD easystore I have, and I have more than 1, but this was supposed to be backing up my files....And all I see are a bunchj of .c74 ext files, and .LAST. Then I see folders titles History\Volume{ bunch of # and letters} Within those look like the files but they are extensions added on to the original ext with _LAST. Also, the files are photos, and they should be huge, but they are 18byts , etc

I just want it to bahave like a drive I select a folder, and it simply makes a copy of that folder, and place the copy under the Easystore drive letter. How hard is that?
