    How did I get moisture overload you ask?! Well.... I got really busy one day and left deep conditioner in my for about 29 hours if not more know it was wrong. The moment I rinsed my hair, knew i'd messed up instantly.
    Don't be a LAILA! Take heed 😫😘

      Alot of black women don't know but air drying can also contribute to moisture overloading. Keeping water on fine hair more than one hour and thick hair more than two (average) starts to weigh down the hair by causing the cuticles to swell and encourages breakage, splitting/tearing and the hair may end up looking like heat damage really . This includes walking up and down in the same towel or t-shirt for lengthy periods since these do have a maximum absorption it probably hit in the first hour and even leaving the house with wet wash and goes. Pre pooing actually doesn't do much for helping this since the oil itself can do the exact thing (but from the outside of the hair rather than inside)

      MRSKINKY1 there are actually many scientific reports and articles done on it and most include kinky hair so please reference those

    You're so right about protein being the black sheep of the natural hair community. Everyone is suddenly afraid of protein when this is the basis of our hair strand. Sharing the hair truth as usual!

      Happened to me as well. It's when your hair feels mushy and too soft

  • @Jayariee
    @Jayariee 7 років тому +71

    I'm so glad you discussed it because I'm noticing alot of black women aren't acknowledging moisture overload. Water overload(hair not completely dry within two hours), deep conditioning over 8, protein treatment over two hours, wetting hair regularly for styles and even leaving the house with wet hair for styles such as wash and go can be the reason natural hair is shedding excessively , breaking/tearing and may be the reason your hair is fragile, thinning or looking like heat damage. I wish you mentioned that oils can cause the same issues by weighing u down the hair but rather from the outside so pre pooing actually should always be followed by a medium to heavy power clarifying shampoo within an hour

      Jayare but it's better to let hair air dry than to blowdry

    • @rachelm.3173
      @rachelm.3173 7 років тому +3

      Cleora Aleise yes, air drying is better. Air drying is all I do and my natural hair is very healthy.

      MRSKINKY1 Girl do your research please before you come at me. There are scientific reports and articles on it which include kinky hair. Some hair is of course stronger so yours may be fine but others suffer

    • @Jayariee
      @Jayariee 7 років тому +2

      Cleora Aleise I never once said blow dry or use heat. But you can actually blow dry your hair on cool setting, use micro fibre towels and scrunch the water out (ensuring to change it after the first hour), sit near a fan, use a safe low level of heat occasionally or simply ensure you remove most of the water from your hair so the drying time is shorter. Recently i read using regular or micro fibre towels/t-shirts make no different on coarse hair but that really depends on what you think. Clearly some hair is strong enough for the effects of over hydration not to show but it contributes to why hair may be fragile, shedding or breaking

    • @CleoraAleise
      @CleoraAleise 7 років тому +5

      Jayare yup, I know. I typically use a microfiber towel or a t shirt if I don't have a clean MF towel. Sometimes I use my blow dryer on cool. Everything you're saying is nothing new to me. If you want to explain something, explain what you meant by "water overload (hair not completely dry in 2 hrs)" Most natural's hair takes quit a while to completely dry especially if it's a wash and go.

    Laila I'm having an SOS moment. PLEASE HELP! Initially when I first went natural I remember it to be coarse and thick (so I thought), however, I noticed some changes when I straightened it last year. It's now fine and thick(well I still have my volume when the strands are together, however, individually it's very thin and noticeable when I do my twist). It's been 8 months since the straightener. Starting to accept it being fine by stopping the usage of combing (ive embrace finger detangle). What else can I do to get my thick hair back? I miss the thickness in my twist.

    I don’t know if you’ll still answer questions on this video, but what do you suggest when your hair is highly protein sensitive. My hair is high density, low porosity, andddd very very fine. I find when I use anything with protein my hair just snaps. My mom even loss a lot of hair using a conditioner that was protein based. Should I just skip it all together?

      Akos Dee Any beauty supply store or Sally Beauty, if you're from the states. It's usually in a vial-type of packaging. I've seen a brand that has it in a packet...kind of like a protein poo. However, the vial is the real deal. Should range around $1.99- $2 max. Anything more is just outrageous.

I'm currently using creme of nature argan oil shampoo and conditioner which I love but I'm not sure if I should be using it weekly because it is a light protein one. I sometimes alternate with tgin honey miracle mask which I think is moisture based, but would like a cheaper alternative. Love your videos btw! x
