FLAT OUT (The History of Rally) - Episode 12 - The Retro Revival

- Опубліковано 12 бер 2022
- FLAT OUT is the video series covering the history of rally from its beginnings way back in the 19th century, its evolution and where it is today, all the while looking at some of the greatest cars, drivers and stages to grace the worldwide sport.
Episode 12 covers roughly the years of 2010 - 2014. The unstoppable power of Citroen and Loeb had created an effective stronghold on the championship. However, with further rule changes, the return of some familiar faces and the introduction of new technologies, how long would this last?

Do you like the hatchback meta? Or would you prefer the return of more unique body styles?
More unique body styles for sure
Unique body styles
As much as I want to see unique body styles, hatchbacks will always be the meta for quite a while unless or until some crazy revolution comes in and changes the competitive landscape.
Simply put a saloon is the wrong bodystyle for a rally car and there are no saloons with the right dimensions on the market so hatchback it is. Look at the history of the sport, whenever the regulations allowed manufacturers entered cars that where round about 4 meters long.
Unique bodystyles
i would really like a Video explaining the class system of the WRC :D
I second this! Trying to keep all these different divisions within WRC straight is really confusing for someone new such as myself!
This video was worth the wait.
Thats another reason why i like especially group b so mutch, because the variety in silhuette and also because of the variety in layouts like some front engines, some had mid and some tail, some had rwd, some had 4wd, inline 4, 5, 6, rotary etc.
OH SHIT OH FUCK IM IN THIS 5:50 :O
When GOAT started to shine..
The Lancers, Octavias and Legacy/Imprezzas were the pinnacle of WRC for me.
I’ve not received notification of ur vids so i stopped seeing this series in the last episode a few months ago, but this episode pop out now in the recommendation page. Btw i love this series and the way u explain the sport as a big fan of it

EDIT: and there's going to be more?! My face is melting ahaha
2 episodes to follow hopefully within the next couple of months
Another great video! Keep it up mate, if it wasn't for these series I wouldn't understand most of the WRC
Great Video 👍
The modern MINI is actually a BMW and the original MINI’s still compete today, although it be in Classic Rallying.
One small omission, Loeb stopped competing full time after 2012 IIRC. So Ogier didn't beat loeb as much as he to over afterwards.
Aight, having just finished the video, i gotta commend on another great primer for the modern era of rallying! It's such a pity the prodrive didnt get to develop the Mini further because of VW's involvement, thus Mini (which, iirc, belongs to the VW group) withdrew from the sport and the car competed in 2013 only as part of privateers - a kind of poetic rhyme with how Mitsubishi developped their car and then built quite a capable machine that needed some more finetuning to rival the top dogs, but then the manufacturer withdrew.
Another thing bear mentioning is the rivalry of Loeb and Ogier; i feel the video glances over it fairly quickly, and it would be good to have an addendum focusing on the 2011 and 2013 seasons, given 2011 was the year Ogier was driving full time for Citroen and Loeb and Ogier's rivalry reached a fever peak; it was the favouritism of Citroen towards Loeb that led Ogier to exit the team and do WRC2 in a Skoda for 2012 in preparation for VW's entry. This coupled with Loeb announcing an early retirement from rallying to focus on other disciplines (a move that is still weird to consider why and how it came about, i think it had to do w the PSA involvement wanting Loeb elsewhere, but im not sure) meant that 2013, which looked to be the titanic battle between the two drivers, was essentially halted, leading to Ogier taking a much more leisurely victory in the absence of Loeb. Thusly, we settled in for another french Seb domination era.
As for the R classes addendum - my vote is yes. The R class of rally cars is very interesting, and a minor sidestep looking into each category and how and where they have been utilized would be massively helpful! If there's a next video to make, i'd recommend doing one explaining the various R categories, and maybe noting their most famous drivers and cars from their era :D
All in all, good job once more, some omissions made for the sake of keeping it neat and tidy, but it still carries across the spirit of how it felt to live through those years, looking massively forward to the next installment)
No Mini is part of BMW and BMW wasn't willing to fund the project completely on their own, as Prodrive didn't develop a world beater and struggeld to find funding on its own, the project stalled. No connection to VW in any way.
@@abcdefgh-xf2th ah gotcha, thank you!
When came a next episode?
Editing it as we speak, likely next week sometime.
