I'm a personal assistant and my boss owns one of these with COMPLETELY maxed out options. I drive it every other day and it's absolutely one of the greatest experiences to drive. It hurts getting back into my 2010 Kia Soul to go back home at the end of the day :(

The blank button is for the rear spoiler. But since that car was optioned w/ fixed rear spoiler it’s blank.

What's funny is since it's a hatchback, the 'Mercedes Benz AMG GT 4-door' is in fact, a five door.

The blank switch is to raise and lower the spoiler. This car has a fixed spoiler so it's blank.

They should've still kept the switch and just had it do nothing. Or repurposed that switch to do something else. It's a $175,000 car. Blank switches are ugly/cheap feeling.

The blank switch is for the extendable spoiler on the normal 63 version where the spoiler isn't fixed in place.

I think that for high-end manufacturers like Mercedes, they should make any blank switches configurable to do whatever you want them to do. You want an extra "Next Track" button? Go ahead. Previous track? Why not? You want your blank switch to be a 1-button shortcut to toggle everything into Track mode? Go right ahead!
Yeah but they'd charge you an extra $5000 to turn that option on even though they put the same software in every car.
But then the fully loaded cars would not have the configurable switches. 🙄

Or they do it like on the w123 Mercedes and make different cut outs in the center console depending on the number of options. My 1985 Mercedes has no fancy extras like power windows or an electric sunroof (only heated seats because it was sold new in Sweden) but no blank switches! 🙂👍

Yeah but the were called coupe. At least the Mercedes ones (W114, W123. W124 etc). But cars like Volvo actually had entry level 2-door versions of the sedan that was cheaper than the 4-door version.

The AMG GT 4-Door has rear-axle steering, which is the main reason for its amazing handling.
I'm surprised that feature wasn't mentioned.
Rear wheel steering isn't all that special.

It isn't a unique feature, sure, but even among performance cars on sale right now, how many actually have this feature? It's not like it's included as standard on Honda Accords, or even on *any* model of Camaro/Mustang (as far as I'm aware, that is)

The empty button is for the Active Spoiler for the vehicles without the Aerodynamic Package

Mercedes: the M5 is just a performance version of a sedan; this is a 4-door version of a sports car.
Doug: this is based off a modified CLS/E class platform.
Any way... a CLS has been always a upper class than a 5 series or a E class, when the previous CLS 63s AMG was on sale it was A LOT more expensive than a M5.

in their defense: BMW made a nice "4 Door Sports car" for a while called the M5. It sold well in the 90's and early 2000's, I'm not sure how how the last decade or so has gone for them.

Those are not center lock wheels. They are "center lock" lug nut covers. I know this because my AMG C63s has the same wheels (in black). They still have the same 5 star-pattern lug nuts. Also, you can skip tracks by swiping left or right on the touch pad when the infotainment system is on the media screen.

The GT63 deserves a 10 in "acceleration". The BMW M5, has a 0-60 time of 3 seconds, and it gets a 10. The Carrera GT, does it in 3.4 seconds and also gets a 10 on the dougscore chart. The dougscoure should be 73/100 which puts it next to the Bugatti Chiron.

5:00 for anyone wondering the empty button is used at least on the AMG GT 53 and all-new 43, it is used to manually raise and lower the wing.
This also applies to the 63 and 63s Models, when they don't have the aerodynamic-package or the Carbon-Exterior-Package 2

I am so satisfied to see this question here. Doug chooses to point out the selection of capital and small letters in the infotainment screen, but did not talk about this....hmmmmmmm???
Nicholas Smith because unless you press and hold, it’s not going to turn off, so it always shows press to turn off.
The engine stop button is also like that, it shows a crossed off A when it’s on, and A off when it’s turned off. The only way to actually understand it is thru the color of the underlined glow. Basically blue for normal mode (engine stop and traction fully on) and red for cooler mode (engine stop off, sport traction).
Just got the car last week, and it was confusing af in the beginning.

Hey Doug, the blanc Switch on the right side of the center console is for the active rear wing, if your gt4door coupe doesn‘t has that giant fixed rear wing, wich is placed on the car you reviewed. Greatings from Germany!

More like 5 years, but yeah. Those Chinese tablets look dumb as sh*t glued to the dash in the C models, and these stretched versions look even dumber in this and the CLS cars. WTF?! For $160,000.00/unit Mercedes couldn’t afford to mold the dash around the tablet? Or are they holding that for Version II, for which they’ll bump the price $1000.00?
donde2k the S-class had the same tablet screens first, not cheaper models like the A or C-class. Mercedes makes cars that the market actually wants to buy. You’d be amazed how many new Mercedes owners actually love these screens, it feels much more futuristic to them than a normal digital cluster like on the A7 or 5series
One of my extremely wealthy friends' dad owns one of these and I took a ride in one of em recently.... when he floored it I felt the blood rushing from my feet to my head! The acceleration is absolutely insane.

Someone better tell doug to bump the features score up to 10 quick! You know that he only gave it a 9 because he didn't realize there was a way to skip tracks on the steering wheel.
That would also bump the total score up to 73...putting it ahead of nearly every car.
You are absolutely correct, swipe up for previous track and down for next track on the right touch pad.
Traction control button is misleading @ 4:17 yes I know the colour changes to blue/red to indicate off/on but why not change the txt too from ON or OFF???

Gigel Gigel its a problem both for you and the owner. The owner basically gets no money back if he decides to sell it. For you, it should be an instant turn off since depreciation usually means an extremely unreliable car. It means you are probably going to pay repairs what the original owner paid to buy it. Unless you have money to blow.

At the same time, engine reliability is not a way to measure overall reliability. We all know electronic reliability in every european car maker is just horrible. A quirky part about the steering wheel drive mode selector is the screen in the middle is a button that changes the drive mode straight to "individual" when pressed. Same with the buttons on the left of the steering wheel, you can press the screens to change what you want quick access toggles for (manual mode, active exhaust, etc.) Really cool stuff.

In a normal car the symbol says "TC OFF" so I guess lazy Mercedes just copied that symbol and added colors. Except, you don't know which is on and which is off.

That's actually a fair price for a good sound system in a luxury car. Other manufacturers range from $3000-$6000 for premium audio.
@@meisterherzlos Kind of, they are not for everything, there is music that "feels" better with other earphones. V8 for musical and they are costume made, Atlas if I want to hear amazing bass or Tzar for strings based music.

Common Doug, don’t confuse people!!!
There are at least 4 ways to switch tracks:
1. On the central touchpad swap left or right to play next or previous track accordingly.
2. Use right touchpad on steering wheel and swap with finger to the left and right to play next or previous track.
3. On the media screen there are two arrows when you listen music, so you can switch track there.
4. Use voice command to switch a track
5. From a digital cluster you can switch track to previous and next.
6. As you showed there is a button for a next track at the central touchpad.
With all these options why do you need that next/previous track button take a place in your interior?

Yes you do need a simple next track on the wheel. Also, a swivel turn dial makes a lot more sense than a switch for volume.
