100% agree. It was good talking to you about this at the store! Less plastic is always going to be better. These products take up a ton of space on shelves, whether it's in a retail space or a home collection. These items have the appearance of having a higher value to the shopper that isn't invested in the hobby. This is why we continue to see them. I'd love to see a change that is similar to the Japanese route of collection boxes.. Just cardboard and a high quality product.
Thanks for watching man! Well said, I couldn't agree more! Great point on the Japanese products. I agree they do a great job of keeping things efficient while looking nice. Honestly, I think most of the Japanese products display better anyway for collectors who want to keep them sealed!
I feel the same way about the metal tins. Especially how they're all weird shapes - I wish I could put an insert in them and store my bulk, but they're just useless.
Pokemon boxed products are designed for children, I bought my son the Charizard collection and he absoloutley loves it. I agree there is a lot of waste, but the boxed products aren't really intended to be bought in bulk and ripped solely for the cards. As a collector myself I almost never buy anything other than booster boxes, bundles and usually a single ETB per set.
Hey I hear ya! I think the problem is the products designed for children could still be more efficient with their packaging and they print too many of these items and local game stores and online stores with distribution have to buy a ton of them and sit on them before clearancing them out to rippers. I think if they reduced the size of the collection boxes and tins and printed less or only sold them to big box retailers we’d have a lot less waste. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and perspective!
They could make the boxes so much smaller, everyone would appreciate it who the hell wants a box the size of a coffee table for 6 booster packs and a hideous jumbo promo card that's going straight in the trash anyway? Honest to god I need to speak to whoever is in charge of pokemon cards, the king of pokemon or whatever, I have some things he needs to hear!
Marketing. That's it. The collectors are going to buy packs, regardless of the price, if they are interested. The collectors will buy premium collections if that's what it takes to get packs. The premium collections are targeted at non-collectors. They catch the eye of shoppers and children way better. They're trying to access the casual side of market with those products.
I definitely think they should adopt smaller boxes more like the Japanese Pokemon products. And reduce the amount of plastic. I think a nice cardboard box with flashy advertising on the outside would still be popular with kids but take up less space and waste less packaging and plastic. It would also be much easier for LGS’s and online stores to sell and ship.

They should've ditched those packs and put ONE 151 Booster Bundle, for the Charizard Ultra Premium.
Easy sell, and it's Char themed. His OG set

Oh I totally agree! Good point they aren’t even useful sizes to hold your cards or bulk!
