This is even more general, as the ETBs are a huge waste of material. Most people buy only for ripping packs, and then have nothing to do with the energies, sleeves, cubes, set guide etc. I don't get what they don't put out much more booster bundles or something similar, instead of ETBs that add so much waste to the world

ETB's are for players, and all players are collectors, and i believe the booster bundle is basically the idea you have minus the promo and a few packs. As a player they might want some new dice and energy cards every now and then, but I do absolutely understand what you mean about the amount of waste existing in them.

I love the Ninetales so much from Obsidian! It's one of my fave cards, and I still need to get it!

Somehow I think people at the top knows this and are intentionally putting out trash to make their other product more valuable and sought after

2024 is year of the dragon and Pokemon has been releasing products to celebrate it including the charizard collection box that’s why it’s red and gold. Long term I think it’s a great buy if you can get it under retail 👍 or even at retail it’s a good hold.

I remember having this feeling during the 2020-2021 Pokémon craze. It's super easy to get into your head about missing out or not getting as much as you want. I've been preaching "being okay with missing out" for a while now, and it has been the best thing for my mental state. More often than not, it pays to do nothing at all and wait.

Bigger boxes are harder to steal as oppose to smaller boxes, a lot of my walmarts have their card products stolen, especially the blister packs since they are smaller. But yea it's still a lot of waste.

I feel the ETB is only that tall/big because of the Players Guide, which is a 1/4" too long to be inserted into the current box length (btw I quite like to have at least one copy), but otherwise, that tall cardboard inside that increases the height is only there to make room for the booklet, you take that out, slide the lid back on and the ETB becomes shorter than a Booster box, and you could keep all the items inside an ETB and drastically reduce the footprint. They know that a large portion of the sealed collectors like the bigger look of a ETB on their shelf, I think. I'd be totally fine with them removing that wacky cardboard spacer from ETBs, to shorten them up, and slightly shrink and insert the players guide into the box. I'm a new collector with Surging Spark, but the card sleeves I've gotten, none of them have had a matte finish, they've all been clear/shiny like any other penny sleeve. I also quite like the set themed sleeves, and wish they'd provide enough for the full 90 cards you get in the 9 packs. haha

As you mentioned, that energy pack is incredibly wasteful. Yeah, energy is a core mechanic in the actual game, but there are ways to make them widely available for players while preventing thousands of them from just ending up in the trash. I'm personally a big fan of our Brazilian ETB's because they do NOT come with an energy pack and the latest ones come with 20 whole booster packs inside, that makes them WAY less wasteful as a product

I'm a collector, the only thing I dont really use in ETB's are Dices, Tokens and Energy pack. I use the rest of the contents.

If you just want the cards, don’t buy the ETB’s. They’re meant for players, not collectors. Buy booster boxes. Problem solved.

My biggest difficulty with wanting to get into TCG is simply that it's a LOT of plastic being wasted.

An affordable Pikachu I'd recommend is the one from Pop Series 5! Amazing Kimura art and you get a fun scene of Pikachu riding a Wailmer.

I’ve been thinking this as well. Also after watching the Netflix show “Buy Now! The shopping conspiracy” I realized just how much companies produce in general. I wish our packs were at least sold in paper wraps instead of that aluminum plastic.

This is why I enjoy the booster bundles. It feels like the best way to open special sets for packs, without the unnecessary "accessories" and plastic bits. I try my best to reuse the metal tins, ETBs, and UPCs as storage for my origami and crafting tools. The mini tins that usually comes in 2 packs are hard to repurpose though so I generally don't buy them. There's also still some guilt with every pack opening since the packs are wrapped in individual plastic. Not sure whether it is possible to use another material to package the packs and also keep the cardboard cards inside intact though...

They should've ditched those packs and put ONE 151 Booster Bundle, for the Charizard Ultra Premium. Easy sell, and it's Char themed. His OG set

I feel the same way about the metal tins. Especially how they're all weird shapes - I wish I could put an insert in them and store my bulk, but they're just useless.

Pokemon boxed products are designed for children, I bought my son the Charizard collection and he absoloutley loves it. I agree there is a lot of waste, but the boxed products aren't really intended to be bought in bulk and ripped solely for the cards. As a collector myself I almost never buy anything other than booster boxes, bundles and usually a single ETB per set.

They could make the boxes so much smaller, everyone would appreciate it who the hell wants a box the size of a coffee table for 6 booster packs and a hideous jumbo promo card that's going straight in the trash anyway? Honest to god I need to speak to whoever is in charge of pokemon cards, the king of pokemon or whatever, I have some things he needs to hear!

100% agree. It was good talking to you about this at the store! Less plastic is always going to be better. These products take up a ton of space on shelves, whether it's in a retail space or a home collection. These items have the appearance of having a higher value to the shopper that isn't invested in the hobby. This is why we continue to see them. I'd love to see a change that is similar to the Japanese route of collection boxes.. Just cardboard and a high quality product.

I'm a simple collector these days.. This set has an uncommon Victini and a common Eevee that I want. There's a decent handful of specific Pokemon I collect and Victini is on that list. The Eevee is done by my favorite Pokemon artist Naoyo Kimura. I'm 75% of the way done, all I need is a reverse Eevee lol! As far as SIR/IR goes... I really love the Slakoth hahaha.

Milotic is one of my favorite pokemon and one of my big chases for the set. Next would be hydreigon. Anything Akira Egawa illustrated I love. She’s one of my favorite right now.

Really, with the likes of this one and the new Pikachu going crazy with Surging Sparks it’s hard to say what exactly it is…. Like we all know that pika ain’t holding it up visually…. I’d argue it’s not even the 5th best in the set but just like Umbreon; those names carry weight. Because it’s Pikachu or Umbreon and the things you mention here, it’s automatically set to dominate. It’s hard to tell what 1 thing set them apart, really.

Huge Milotic fan here. Can not believe there is not more hype behind it. I still haven’t pulled it. I WILL get it though. Lol. Pulled 2 of the pikachus in Japanese but can’t get any luck whatsoever in English. I like this type of video and the anecdotal side of it. Can teach hard heads like me a little bit better about reading the market correctly.

I didn’t get ANY PC ETB’s for Prismatic Evelutions. 😭😭😭 this market is insane, but I’m here for it. Just wait. It’s gonna keep getting crazy. The Rocket set is going to be huge! Most underrated and best set to come out in this era. It just came out at the worst time but that doesn’t matter. In the future this set will explode once stock is all out :)

By the way I filmed this a couple days ago and the prices have jumped up a lot since then! I think the argument still stands even if the price of the box is higher. :)
