      Thanks so much Laureen 🌸 I must say that if you want to try backgrounds for the first time, either doing them like this with gel crayons, or else using soft pastels is probably the easiest way to start.

    Hi Liz! I used my King Art mixed media ones for the first time yesterday on two images and I absolutely love them! Using this technique adds so much beauty to my coloring pages! Always needed a little something to make completed pages pop!! Thanks for sharing this!!

      Thanks so much for the comment. I think the King Art gel crayons are really popular in the US. We don’t get them here in South Africa, but I think that most gel crayons are very similar. I am so pleased you found this tutorial helpful.

    I rarely color anymore, as a friend asked for help learning to draw and I fell in love with my first passion. Today, I bought a set of inexpensive Kingart gel sticks to try on the background of my current drawing. I wasn't sure how to use them. All the other videos I found used them with water. Thank you for showing this dry method. I was lucky and had everything I needed. I did a sample and it's perfect! You have subscribed to your channel.

    Thank you for sharing the whole process from cleaning to application. Looking forward to seeing your completed page. I am reluctant to use my silk crayons as they do transfer (I don't have fixative, it may go through?) and they are hard work. Hope you have a super holiday.

    Hello Liz!! I just got a set of Gelatos and was wondering what I was going to use them for. Thanks for the lesson. I like very much how your background came out and didn't take as much work as with some mediums. Have a wonderful and fun holiday!!

      You're very welcome. I didn't add links to anything in this video as I uploaded it just before leaving on holiday and didn't have time. I would really suggest you treat yourself to some of the brushes if they fit your budget, as they make a huge difference in the application. Here's a link to the type of brushes I used: amzn.to/3MRdwRQ

    Hi, thank you for your video! I know that I didn't see you use water and you didn't say to use any water, but I just wanted to make positive for sure I shouldn't use any liquid. Also, can I spray the fixative prior to coloring the page? I put the Krylon Fixative in my Amazon cart - is that the right one? Your help is appreciated, I hope you had a nice Holiday!

    • @LizatHome
      @LizatHome  2 роки тому

      Hello Angela. Thanks for watching and asking questions. No water to be used when using this method. I only spray the fixative after coloring the page. I prefer using Grumbacher workable fixative, I will go to my computer just now and look for a link for you. Krylon is a good make but I have had a few instances when using it, where a fineliner that I had used, all of a sudden bleeds through to the back of the page after using the Krylon. I think something in the mixture melts the ink 🖊 or something, so I don’t use it anymore, except on single sided pages. This has never happened with the Grumbacher.

      @@amoore7960 Hello again, I am presuming you are in the US. It seems that the Grumbacher is not available on Amazon there right now:
      amzn.to/3KcPYav
      But it is available at Dick Blick:
      www.dickblick.com/products/grumbacher-workable-fixative/
      I hope this helps. Amazon advertises a Sennelier one as well, but I've not tried it with adult coloring pages.
