      LOL... Hi, Gabriel! I loved this video. I also liked the fact that you mentioned Melania. Whatever anybody thinks of the Trumps, facts are facts and it certainly is worth mentioning. Thanks for sharing and friendly greetings from Laško (pronunciation: lushko) the city the beer was brewed that you drank :)

    Ljubljana surprised me because it doesn't feel like a capital city or a big bustling city like other places I visited in Europe. Very laidback which suits an Aussie like me.

    I enjoyed Ljubljana (I don't understand why so many people find it difficult to pronounce.) Though I only took a day trip there when I was visiting Zagreb. I ate at a Bosnian restaurant in Ljubljana and I ordered more food than I had Cevapi and I ordered the double portion but the waitress was like 'No, no please get the single portion' God I wish I listened to her. :D

  • @1emina
    @1emina 7 років тому +5

    You pronounced Ljubljana very well :) ok three times: The Ljubljanica River, the Ljubljanica river, the Ljubljanica river :) great representation of Ljubljana, I love your video. I live here for 30 years (also born) and I know it is common to say about your hometown, but I really love it and adore it in all seasons. It's very lively during the day, and during evening you just need to find proper stops where the life goes on, but when the night falls in the city center it is very quiet. Also from March until October each Friday you have the "open kitchen" concept with various food.
    You should also come in December - each day it is so great. I have a tradition with my father to go out each evening and drink some spirits and just enjoy the whole vibe. You get to meet people, gypsies go around and play different balkan music, and all of the lights are giving you so much festive vibe.
    On the other hand I am also in love with Slovenian mountains, there is so much to see and so many mountains and hills to go for hiking with breathtaking view. Maybe 10 years ago I was really into moving outside Slovenia but now I can't imagine not living here.
    Thank you for such great video!

    To all the people saying what’s with the graffiti, he rented a chep hotel in a part of the city where everyone wants to be a artist so there’s allout of the artistic installations there. It looks shady but it really isn’t. The most dangerous thing you can come across in Metelkova is a hipi with a spray can.

      Being living 3 years in Ljubljana. The center is wonderful, the castle surroundings are too. There are some very beautiful spots like restaurants and pubs, old houses, etc. But, when you leave the center, you enter Yugoslavia in all of its "splendor". There you can find the worst architecture ever seen, roads full of holes, high concentration of CO2 emission. Take Šiška, Fužine or Bežigrad. Shortly, the urbanistic is terrible in Ljubljana. One would say:" Well, this holds for most of the cities." No, it does not. Take Budapest or Prague, for example. You have a lot to see outside the city center. Yes, Ljubljana is smaller in comparison, but that does not justify the incredible lack of other nice spots in the outskirts of the city.

      Slovene language was official language in Habsburg's Monarchy!!! All state affairs documents and official bulletins were published in Slovenian language. Without Slovenes there wasn't be Austria (Slovenian, Ojstrica)! Even Maria Theresa was crowned by Slovenian law (Institutio Sclauenica), because no German laws at that time weren't allowed succession to the throne by the woman descent.

    I would just like to point out that in the part of the city where there were so many grafitti, it is actually full of grafitti on purpose. They don't clean grafitti on purpose so it gives that street (Trubarjeva street) a special vibe to it and it serves as a tourist attraction.

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos  6 років тому

      I see, so it's just that one street which they leave like that? That makes more sense. Also then the graffiti artists know they have one place they can paint and their art won't get cleaned off.

    I love Slovenia and I really like your videos. BTW: I'm planning to visit Cape Meares in October. Do you know of any nice & cheap places to stay in that area???

      Thanks. I stayed at a cheap campground near there, but that's all I know right in that area. I'm sure you could find something on booking.com.

    The second pronounciation of Ljubljana is right or as close as you can get for a non-Slavic speaker.

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos  7 років тому +1

      Yeah that's about as close as I'm going to get, haha.

      The foreigners could just skip the "j"s (Lublana) and they would pronounce it good (as many slovenians do this :-)).

      Thanks for the reply Reflex, I've been to western Europe and know they have longer daylight but wasn't sure about central Europe. I'll be in Croatia in a couple of weeks, so I'm looking forward to the extra long summer days.

    hi Gabriel, what do you do in the evenings on your own? the day time is ok cause you can explore but in the evenings its a little dangerous and not so much is open, so what do you do? is that when you edit your videos on your laptop or do you take a night coach or something?

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos  6 років тому

      Yeah in the evenings I usually edit my videos, go out to a restaurant or walk around. It isn't dangerous to be out in the evening in most places.

    2,80 € for a beer cheap? OMG

    • @randombiketrips3296
      @randombiketrips3296 7 років тому +4

      That's cheap for that size, at least by American standards. That size would probably be around at least $7-$8 USD.

    • @stefanszlobodnik
      @stefanszlobodnik 7 років тому

      Yeah but in eastern europe it is expensive. Gabe was in Bratislava then Budapest , there he had beers for 1-1,50 €. 2,80 € is too much , for 3,50 I can have a beer in Vienna or Bavaria. And let us not compare european and american beer. I would not pay for that beer 50cents .

    • @krikra2000
      @krikra2000 7 років тому +6

      stefanszlobodnik you can get the same beer for 2 -2,4 eur just a couple streets up. He drank in the turist district.

      he did the same mistake in Bratislava.i sent him a link to a nice restaurant 300-400 m from the centre, but he picked a restaurant for tourists with crappy overpriced food.

    mmm still looking for the info of the first band and the Congress Square, it sounded very interesting as some brass oriented fusion-prog ensemble there, though I felt a bit sorry for the lack of a more crowded audience. thanks for sharing the musical ambience of the city (which reminded some views and ¨green¨ airs of Christiania, but with much ease and better feeling) this is what I found about the festival www.visitljubljana.com/assets/Dokumenti-PDF/Programi-prireditev-v-PDF/Programska-knjizica-festivala-Junij-v-Ljubljani-2017.pdf

    Looks like you finally made it to one of the Balkan countries. I was in Ljublijana for a month back in 2013. It's a college town and even so, I would rank it very high on one of the most safest places I've traveled to so far.
    I ate cheese "bureks" everyday and still miss not having fresh ones in the states. Hope you had some too!
    Enjoy the Balkan region!

    One thing I noticed in your entire European tour that bicycle is the most popular two-wheeler in most of the European cities......it is good for the environment while in India most of the people ride bikes and scooters.....very few bicycles can be seen in big cities here......

    • @zzaaggaa
      @zzaaggaa 7 років тому +2

      Lot of european cities force peuple to use bicycle. Like in Ljubljana they banned motorize vehicles in city center so you don't have a choice, you need to walk or use bicycle, ok you can also use motorcycle but need to be electric and because the area is classified as pedestrian zone need to be registered as vehicle that is not faster then 25km/h.
