We love a free walking tour when we arrive in a new city, it’s a great way to shake away the travel fatigue and get acquainted with a new place! The city looks so beautiful and full of history and cool buildings, the food looked pretty interesting even if a bit sour. Love when a place completely exceeds expectations and this city looked so diverse and affordable 🤩
It is affordable relatively speaking compared to Western Europe however Slovenia wound up being the most expensive country on our Balkan tour. Another surprise prices got lower and lower the further South went!
Haha, yes, our traditional food was not made for pleasure. Since we have long winters and were for a long time very poor/farming country (without much trade, unlike other European countries) most produce was made with a purpose to last through the winter. Hence a lot of the food is sour/pickled. That being said, now that taste is in our blood, so we like it :) Great video!
When in Slovenia, it is a must that I have their take on fried chicken (ocvrta kura). It is inspired by the Austrian ‘Backhendl’. Together with ‘tenstan krompir’, a succulent potato dish made in the pan. And I have an Union beer with that. Not sour at all…
Wonderful Ljubljana! Beautiful. I hope we visit Slovenia some year. Well done, my friend. Big like and full play 👍. Thanks for sharing, my travelling friends, and all the best in the new year! 😀
@@LucasWorldTravel Thanks! My wife and I being 61 & 62 will stay away from air travel until things settle down more. Wow, Slovenia really does look gorgeous! The free walking tour sounds like a great idea - I love how it is free too. I especially love visiting local markets! Always great when a place has been recommended to you by a local guide! The local food looks interesting. Did you choose the most authentic dishes on the menu? 2.50 for wine is a great reason to have wine at lunch - I would so do the same! The sausage would have been my favourite thing too, haha.

Really enjoyed this video, Llubljana looks beautiful! The walking tour looked very informative. We love pickled food, so maybe we’ll enjoy the local cuisine 😅 Love how the city lights up at night. Those bicycles is such a clever idea! We’d definitely make use of those. The river cruise also seems like a great activity. Love your colourful accommodation 😊
Wow! I’ve seen very little from Slovenia and it looks BEAUTIFUL! Look at those mountains 😍 Loved the market, looks like it’s a scene out of The Sound of Music almost haha and I also love the honesty of your 4 out of 10 meal score 😂 way to go out of your comfort zone and still try it all though.
Wow what a great episode! We have never thought about visiting there more than a couple days as we didn't know how much you could do there. I love free walking tours! I also love soup, it looks so good. I love sour food (I eat raw lemons lol) can't believe you walked more, but the castle seems to be worth the visit
If you like sour, that soup might be for you! Yes, Ljubljana has small city center yet we spent 4 nights there and managed to fill all our time. We loved the country especially Bled and Piran too. We highly recommend!
when was this video taken? it looks like a nice weather there! Ljubljana looks beautiful, I love to try the river cruise and kayaking, and I like to taste their food specially the soap you've ordered.
Fun to see Ljubljana again; we were there almost 3 years ago! We really liked Dragon Bridge--April knows the names of each of the 4 dragons, lol. 😉😁 Was that a local wine you tried? We actually really liked that stew! We appreciate that they are so bicycle friendly there. Neat that your lodging has a glassed-in porch. We stayed at a hostel there and it was so fun!
We loved the wine in Slovenia, Croatia and Bulgaria the most in that region! So good. LOL, we are actually watching that show right now...April says thank you for the compliment! 😂😊
Hey guys, it looks like spending some time here really was worth it! I am not sure what I would think of the traditional food 🤨 but would definitely be interested in at least trying it 😊 we look forward to your next stop in Slovenia!
Okay, so, Slovene guy here, the stew they had is called jota (yota), when you eat it you're supposed to put the bread in it and usually the sausage is sliced and put in there aswell. It balances out the sour taste of the cabbage and makes it a delicious, hearty meal for the winter time, it's the stew of western Slovenian child nostalgia, when your nona (grandma) used to make it for sunday lunches in the winter. I'm actually shocked that they weren't that impressed with our food, most foreigners i've met like it :D
I've heard such great things about this city and have wanted to go. I liked your honest review of the food but also comparing it to the type of food you like. I'd probably enjoy it because I do like sour foods. The scenery there is beautiful and I'd love to do that walking tour of the city. How long do you recommend staying in the city?
