    Sleeping bags are rated not for hours of comfort, but survival. In really cold weather, your body's moisture will be pushed through the bag's insulation, but as it reaches the outer shell, it will usually freeze on the inside of the shell. The longer you spend in the bag, the more your moisture will build up, slowly reducing the bag's insulating ability. Every morning, it's a good idea to air out your bag (unless it's raining, of course) and beat the ice crystals out of it. Otherwise, each successive night the bag will get colder. I'm no longer in good enough condition to do any winter mountaineering, but it's good to see younger folks camping in the high-country snow.

      Here in Norway they have a 3 temp rating, upper, comfort and extreme. A quick search found sleepingbags down to -49 F comfort temp. they are made for expeditions like Mt Everest etc so they are slightly pricy at around 1500 usd but you keep warm and dry even in pretty harsh conditions as they are obv made for.

      It depends on if it’s women’s or men’s. Women’s are comfort rated and men’s are lower limit rated and the ratings might not match the number in the name of the bag. But this is a really good tip

      We dont have that here in Norway, women or men's dont mather. They all have 3 values and womens values are higher by 10C. I am sure people can find celcius-Fahrenheit convertion and see how much that is in F if they are interested.

    MAV, usually I completely understand what your videos are meant to say but this one left me. Hiking, snow, cold, firewood, fires, boiling water, mountaintop views ... I get it but glad I'm watching this from Sunny Florida and my comfortably warm Class A Motorcoach. 18 previous years of living in MinneSNOWta (and West Virginia before that) taught me to seek comfortable adventures now. I'm glad your trip went well and you had other friends alongside you.

    In that kind of weather hunting, elk will usually be best in the valleys without as much timber. The elk like to move more in the snow/cold and sun themselves when the sun comes out. I just got done with a 13 day trip in NE Colorado and a few more days in Wyoming.

Its was so awesome, one of the best things ive ever experienced. It was exhausting but so much fun and a great experience.

    I detected a little bit of labored breathing with that altitude. I went through the same thing in June when I camped at 10,500 feet in northeastern Arizona. My brother and his wife had been up there for about a month, so they were used to it. As for me, I thought the hikes were going to do me in. Can't wait to see where you take us next. When I went elk hunting with my dad. We live on the oregon coast and when we hunted an area like that. We went down around the bowl where the elk were. We never just sat on top looking down on them. Guess thats why my dad got his elk every year. For the last 30 years, I can just look out my windows of my 1916 farmhouse in our valley and see 60 elk pretty much everyday. There also has been plenty of times I've had to chase 30 or more elk out of my yard. Its amazing how many directions 30 elk can go when a 64 year old lady comes out of her house yelling and chasing them. Country exercise, is what I call chasing the deer and elk out of my yard. Have also chased the black bears and bobcats out too. The wild animals have thousands of acres around my 3.2 to eat and roam. They dont need to eat the stuff I've worked planting and tending to the past 30 years. 😊

      Lean on the Lord. Jesus can and will help you. Put your Trust in him. He Loves you so much. He is your Blessed Hope.
      Our Blessed Hope, our Savior Jesus Christ.
      Do you know him? Do "you", ("whoever" is reading this), know Jesus? Even more, are you "Saved"? If Jesus were to return today, "now", would you be ready? Are you ready? That is the one question that you, and everyone, better know the answer to, because that is the most important decision you will ever make. Jesus is the "ONLY WAY TO SALVATION". There is no other way, "none". This "life" that you are living now, is a "limited" existence. The life after this is "ETERNAL", which brings us to another question: "Where do you want to spend eternity?" Well, you have only "two" choices: either "HEAVEN" or "HELL"! Not everyone will go to Heaven and likewise not everyone will go to Hell. It's your choice! It's always been your choice. Have you ever wondered why we all don't go to Heaven? Well, it's because of just one thing. But that "one" thing "separates" us all from God, and that one thing, is "SIN"! We are all born into sin, everyone is, and the Bible says that the wages (penalty) of sin is "Death". You see, because of our sins, when we all die, we are all "eternally separated" from God. But you know what? God Loves you so much that he made a way for you, for all of us. The Bible also teaches us that even though the penalty (wages) for our sins is death, we can gain SALVATION (a GIFT FROM GOD) through his only begotten son, Jesus Christ. God made a way! He sacrificed his only son, for "you"! That's how much he Loves you.
      ROMANS 6:23 kjv
      For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
      Here's the GOOD NEWS, (THE GOSPEL) Jesus took your sins and paid your sin debt in full. He took all your sins, past, present and future, to the Cross, shed his Blood and literally DIED for your sins, was buried and then God raised him from the dead three days later. Anyone who believes in the finished work of Jesus Christ will be Saved. That's THE GOSPEL (which means GOOD NEWS).
      1 CORINTHIANS 15:1-4 kjv
      15 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
      2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
      3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
      4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.
      He paid the price so you don't have to. Jesus is the ONLY ONE who could. He is the ONLY WAY.
      JOHN 14:6 kjv
      6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
      God gives you, all of us, this "GIFT", because he Loves you. How much does God Love you? Well, let me ask you this: "Could you sacrifice your only child?" That is exactly what our Heavenly Father did. He gave (sacrificed) his only begotten son, Jesus, for "you", for the "WHOLE WORLD"!
      JOHN 3:16-18 kjv
      16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
      17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
      18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
      Please, don't let Gods "sacrifice" (for you) be in vain. Jesus "died" for you. Please "Live" (eternally) for him.

      Hello, just wanted to say Jesus loves you. All you have to do to be saved if not already is repent of your sins and continue to repent every time you sin. Whatever you might be going through He is always with you. Pray to Him every day and witness and pray to the lost He is coming soon

    My dad survived the Chosin Reservoir battle in the Korean War. 30 below zero. He said the key was to change your socks often and be drying the damp ones to get ready for the next change. The cold was hard on them. The 60,000 Chinese troops didn’t help either!
