  • Wood art and craft beer brewing share a common origin: each begin ultimately with seeds. Both endeavors are created to enliven our spirits and arouse our senses. The Bell's Brewery's facility in Comstock, Michigan (near Kalamazoo) is home to my largest wood sculpture, created and installed in 2013.

The video documentary also shows use of an innovative tool designed and made by Salem Barker to aid sanding in tight, deep gaps.

Such an awesome piece! This and your other works are inspiring me to get back into sculpting after years away from it. Love the commitment to your craft.

Salem, Got a lot out of this . Viewed your smaller sculpture pieces and the process you shared. Finding my way down my path and listening, watching and experiencing with you has been motivating. Tool damage and recovery, finding gifts left in the tree when it was young is often the bane of the miller. A bit of your early history and turning point brought out here was informative. Also that you have read what others have said about their work. Glad I viewed those other videos first so my curiosity and understanding was peaked. The artist that filmed this did a great job of enhanced storytelling.

Thanks! I sincerely appreciate the comments. It was filmed by Justin Romine. He's now the professor of film at the Univ of New Mexico in Albuquerque.

I really appreciate the freedom of your work. The way you work your hard and soft lines to draw the eye are really compelling. Great work.
