  • Every sculpture I make requires the use of cyanoacrylate, or superglue at least somewhere, or everywhere upon the wood prior to finishing. My preferred product is Starbond. I used to purchase the 1 ounce bottles at the hardware store every few weeks, now I buy by the quart from Starbond and store it in the refrigerator. Give it a try for 10% off via this link!

If the discount happens to expire in time, please let me know and I'll get it taken care of. Thanks!

Have you seen my Spectraply, Making Art from Colored Laminate Wood? I think it shows a steel base being made. I use a bandsaw, lathe, and vertical mill to make my steel bases.

Thanks for the tip on the starbond tips. As I have used the glue the tip gets crusty and it's hard to put the top tip on again. Not anymore thanks to you.

Thank you, always enjoy your videos and enjoy picking up tips . Just been reading Stephens web page , very interesting . Any other web pages you would recommend for a power carver without a lathe .

Thank you, and yes. Look up J Christopher White. He's a close friend. There are tutorial pages on his site. His book is worth owning also, "Parables in Wood".
      J. Chester Armstrong is also a friend with an inspiring website. I haven't seen him in a few years. They're both western style, but they came to mind first.

Beautiful. What exactly are you using in your hand to hook the alligator clips to from the oil burner?

Wood sticks. They're 1/4" dowel rods.

I love your videos I’m always inspired by your work. I live in Albuquerque NM I’m fairly new at carving with zero experience cutting wood but oddly enough a natural at it and fell in love with it pretty late in life. im a 39 year old poker player that as of the last year have been fully dedicated and fascinated with wood carving and would love to meet you one day. Like I said just stating out with makeshift shop but I don’t see this going anywhere I have a couple mediocre/amateur videos of some of my carvings on my channel if you’d like to check um out. In the meantime I’ll continue watching your videos

CA glue was originally created to aid the medical industry in sealing external woulds, like fake skin. I've used it to seal cuts that otherwise would need several stitches. It's common to get it on fingers when woodworking. I suppose our livers don't appreciate it, though.
