  • Often referred to as the benchmark for luxury-level EDC pocket lights, the McGizmo has been around since 2009 and is still the preferred light by many connoisseurs... and we're going to see why.

    I’m late to the party but fantastic video. I just bought one and I am thrilled. It is absolutely the best EDC light I have ever owned bar none

    All these people commenting on how you can buy a dollar store light that works, or a surefire/streamlight/olight/blablabla that are brighter and cheaper have completely missed the point of this video. It's like saying that nobody needs a Corvette or mercedes when a Hyundai does the same thing for cheaper, or a timex is better than a Rolex. This is a collector's light, a custom light, it's made from far better materials, hand made to your specifications. This is something you get into AFTER youve bought the mainstream big name lights. Some people like to collect shoes, some like hats or jerseys, some people collect stamps, etc... All can sell at outrageous prices. I love these custom lights, I could never afford them at this point, so I stick with some big name brands, but I get the high end custom addiction, its mesmerizing to just stare at the fine machining. If you dont understand it, then go watch some cat videos, or that "world star" shit and stop hating on other people's interests. Fuckin trolls

    I have a Lumintop LM10 Titanium. Cost me a $125. Strangely, it had a stainless steel clip on it. Fortunately, I found a titanium replacement for around $20. Wasn't easy to find one. It has triple 6500k emitters, and is plenty bright. I think it looks good. It has 6 slots in the body and 3 slots it tail switch to add tritium or glow tubes, if you'd like. I added 3 blue tritium pieces in the tail switch. That way in total darkness I know exactly where to press to get the light turned on. I'll probably just leave the other slots empty. So, if you like the look of these titanium lights, but don't want to shell out that much money, look for a Lumintop LM10 Titanium.

    Love McGizmo's. Good video. Suggestion for showing light beams up close initially is something different than that carbon fiber sheet. Not sure what the best background would be, but that one gave odd reflections. It made them all harder to distinguish. The outdoor stuff was better.

      True, but what he didn't show he pretty much nailed in the spoken commentary and with an enlightening but honest point of view with just enough bias so as not to come off as "it's the best because I like it!" And more of a "I like it, because it's the best!" Which is cool 😎 in of itself. But then also the first to tell you that it's definitely not the brightest of the bunch and that basically if that is solely what you seek then keep on seeking cuz it isn't found (standard) in Haiku. But that is part of the appeal to me personally is the conservative drive levels and overall recurring theme of: longevity above all else be it the timeless exterior both in terms of duration of functionality as well as a timeless aesthetic, and the high end components, run time (more so back upon it's debut still not bad by any means however), finally serviceability both by end user and if need be a quick trip back to don and a quick trip back (I know from experience) ought to solve any issue one could possibly come across. Great light when it came out, great light when this review was published and great light today. Legendary light forever.

    Great video, Jim! I am a new subscriber and a big fan of your content. I am a flashlight and knife enthusiast, but definitely more into flashlights. That Tain that you held up is amazing. I would love to find one of those on the secondary! Thanks again for making quality flashlight videos in addition to knife videos 👍🏻

    Whatever hobby Jim's into, he's seems genuinely passionate and discusses the stuff in good detail. Who cares if he does or doesn't tear into 2x4s or skin badgers with his fancy blades? That's not really the point of the channel. i've learned a lot about knives from his vids. Although in the case of the lights, my Dollar Tree mini-mag w/ 3 triple-A batteries consistently threw a nice wide circle into the woods 200 feet across a field on a recent camping trip, and lit our site with good bright light whenever needed. It's all I'll need for now. But it's still interesting to see the boutique stuff.

    cool flashlight, something about it reminds me of Terminator.

    • @kodyschmautz7799
      @kodyschmautz7799 4 роки тому

      Right? But unlike the terminator the Haiku never got to say "I'll be back" cuz it never went away, still to this very day you can order a new one if these from Don directly with very little changes over the years.

    Jim, outstanding and thanks for doing this. I'm embarrassed to admit that I was unaware I could still order a new Haiku from Don.... I've been watching the sales threads in hopes of finding one. Well thanks to you (and Ladd, who's post directed me to this review) I'm thrilled to say that I've just ordered my first "Gizmo"!

    I must need a new eye exam but the performance differences in those lights is tremendous to my eyes. The McGizmo may be a jem when it comes to materials and machining but puts out nowhere near the amount of light I usually require. Hmmm...would love to see one of these mega expensive lights with an XHP35 in it

    Hey Jim, What kind of battery run times do you get on the Haiku vs Trident in high mode?

  • @EricSFCA
    @EricSFCA 8 років тому +4

    I think the McGizmo's are nice shiny objects like Todd Begg's, but you should review a Zebralight, the Strider/Hinderer of flashlights, significantly better performance at a much lower price.

    Any experience with a maker e14/ astrolux s41? It's a quad nichia 5000k tint with 1400 lumens and TIR optics. The UI is perfect for me. You can enable or disable mode memory. In addition, with a quick press you cycle forward though modes and with a medium press you can cycle backwards. It's 3 inches with an 18350 batter and 4 inches with an 18650. I would love to hear your thoughts on it.

      +zero 4U awwww, does it hurt your feelings that I enjoy my life? I haven't moved on from anything, still collect watches, knives and so on. I add more hobbies to my existing ones, I don't often stop the others to do so. No one is forcing you to watch my videos, so move along since they bother you so much.
