JOS is now in its 13th year of development, and the JOS team of experienced inclusive workshop facilitators are skilled across the spectrum of creative arts practice and delivery. Joy of Sound is an inclusive music and creative arts project that provides workshops and equipment to enable anybody, regardless of their abilities and dexterity, to enjoy taking part in music making and other arts activities.
JOS maintains an ongoing program of research into bespoke and adapted musical instrument design and inclusive workshop techniques.
The aims of JOS are to:
Promote non-verbal communication
Encourage improved mental health and well-being
Build self-confidence
Create a joyful, non-judgmental space for individual creativity and equal participation
Provide new opportunities for learning and career development.
To achieve these goals, JOS offers:
Regular weekly / fortnightly group music making sessions
Day / half day workshops and presentations for events, festivals and conferences
Training in inclusive workshop leading techniques
Consultation on inclusive design
Staff training and development
One-to-one facilitation
Provision of bespoke and adapted instruments for individuals
