I was in New York at a nightclub called the GARAGE.....My brother took me out that night and we partied. This song came on and the club went BANANAS...1985....We had a ball!!!...I loved this song since
Same for me ! I arrived in New York 1985 from italy ,,and this is the Song that i used to dance almost everynight in a disco places ,,like" limelight" and OTHER discotecs ! This is really the song that Remind me New York City , beautiful times !
Everybody has a story of where they were, who they were with with this song! Have we lost all memories today with what we call music? When is the next renaissance in music going to happen? I cannot turn to Lady Gaga, or Beyonce or any other current so called musician! Come on people, demand more...
For a while this was the number # 1 cut in the NYC clubs. You couldn't go to ANY dance club in NYC and not hear this cut. Of course, I remember the Mighty Paradise Garage breaking it first, as usual. Shep Pettibone is one of the premier DJs from NY and the seminal House era and I extend my props for this extended remix Keep Bangin!!
i used to spin this back in the 80's as a DJ (which I still am) and loved this song and so much of the fun 80's dance music. The stuff today just isn't quite the same and so many fond memories! Listen, love, and dance your ass off! :))
This was the absolute jam back in the day. This song made you feel so good and happy. I am in awe right now. Thanks for the post. Yes I Like You. Where is Phyllis Nelson Now. We need to play this song everyday. Takes me back to the clubs.
I woke up with this track playing loud and hard in my head this morning. No idea what I was dreaming about, but I've had my headphones on all morning and still keep hitting the replay button. Excellent!
This sounded so good on my Yamaha home stereo system, with it's big speakers. I still have my 12 inch record club cut record of this great song. Yep record, played it on the turntable. I can't believe that she passed, just found out. R.I.P. Fabulous voice!
"What I feel for you is real" dag, when music was music. No comparison to today's music. Come on lets talk about the Palladium in NYC (dancing inside the house when this came on:), Zanzibar in Newark, Odells in B-more, Numbers in DC, The 5th column in DC, Devil's nest in Bronx, Bonds NYC, The Garage in NYC, Club 88 in E. Orange, Central State University (Maurader room), Classics in DC:) Wow! Not the best dancer in the world but it didn't matter. It moved you!!! Just being there was enough:)
Was on FB debating the best hip hop song before 1993. In researching I began thinking of other music I loved back then, and thought of this one!! Found it!! I am embarrassed to say I wasn't sure of the name!!! Just guessed and here I am! ;-) Thanks johnnyleith!
IM a straight dude who is 41. When i was a kid this was just music. Everyone got along better. V__V Ice T was right. Back there there was must "music" not white music or black music or straight music or gay music. Everyone liked.......music.
My first memory of hearing this song was at the Club Savage in NYC on a Friday night. I went and bought the 12" single the next day.......Those were the good old days.....Much love to Shep Pettibone, Larry Levan & The Paradise Garage (RIP to both), Tony Humphries, WBLS, 98.7 KISS, WBGO (for Felix Hernandez and the oldies on Saturday mornings) and last, but not least, the Tri-State area (NY/NJ/CT).
Here in Detroit we had the sister station WLBS 107.5. Great memories of this radio station. I still have almost all my vinyl from those days. I can remember dancing to this song. I still have my 12” vinyl single.
My first time hearing this hit song was my home town Detroit, she got lots of airplay with this song, it was truly a hot song even now it's better than most songs nowadays.
I first heard in 86 when i was teenager......Next thing I noticed , I was going into the Tunnel , Palladium. ....in NYC.......So glad I was able to experience those days.....cant compare.
I was on a plane on the tarmac, Charles De Gaul airport summer of 1986 - I was on a flight from Paris to Athens and just as the plane started tearing down the runway, this song came on - I will never forget thinking that this summer cannot get any better - but alas it did, on the island of Santorini.
There's a few words that come to mind listening to this - The Palladium in NYC, cocaine, a special lovely Danish lady and essentially decadence and debauchery reigning supreme...
I promoted/ marketed this track back in the day and would like to thank all involved for making it such a hit. Besides Ms. Nelson, Shep Pettibone deserves major props for the creative portion... It was a different turn for popular dance tracks and made a hallmark appearance of the Emulator.
One of the true Dance NYC Florida, Atlanta , Detroit , megabit. In the middle of a second wave pandemic and pandemonium and chaos Spring 2021, This is still a True Jam. RIP Princess.
Oh. my. goodness! Here it IS! I was getting some new ringtones for my phone and could NOT remember who did this song!! THANK YOU so very much for this! 1998. Breast cancer at 47. Didn't know until I checked the Wiki bio today. Last I remember, the song spent 8 weeks at number 1 on the Billboard Club Dance charts and was the number 1 club song of 1986. I bought the record back then.
This song was a hit at Greg's Blue Dot Lounge in Hollywood, with Johnny Eckhardt in the DJ booth, back in '84. She also performed this live at Probe, up the street. TOO HOT!, I believe John Ford did her lighting and sound, Great memories.
Danced my ass off to this iconic song at The Hippo and Masquerade and Mitchells , all great clubs back in the 80's. Unfortunately Baltimore has died, down to like 2-3 clubs nowadays with their days are numbered also.
What ever happened to the lost 45,s back in the days we use to stay up all night playing and having a great 😃 time will never forget as long as I live still jamming everyday to work
This, possibly more than any other song from the 1980's, reminds me of all the pretty girls back at school, with their baggy sweaters, painted-on white jeans, and enough hairspray to choke a horse ;) I dedicate this song to you...
THIS ONE GOES TO ALL MY BELOVED FRIENDS THAT I'VE LOST FROM THAT ERA........I KNOW YOU REMEMBER THIS ONE!!!!!!!!! MISS YOU & LOVE YOU!!!!!!! BLANCA.........
