@@princekingsley3096 I may have a great answer for you. I bought a beat up 1994 e320 sedan as a project car about a month ago, I got it cheap, thing has 184k miles, and needs a lot of work with a bad but still functional transmission, the car is lowered, and has heavily worn steering links that click and allow the car to wonder a bit on center, yet with all the issues, the thing still manages to drive absolutely rock solid. I would describe how it feels as almost shockingly stable, there is body roll of course, and the car is relatively soft in terms of how the suspension is setup, but once you're leaned into a corner and the car is settled, the car is confidence inspiring, and just feels planted and stable like nothing I've driven before.
I'm used to the handling of a stock 03 Subaru Forester, and while the steering in that is more direct and more "sporty", that car feels like it moves around more under you, and it has much lower limits and is much more prone to understeer just by the nature of the awd system in those cars, and as a result, in comparison to this beat to shit Mercedes, it's wild to me how much more substantial the Mercedes feels. I'd say it gives off the vibe of being in something much bigger than it is, with the maneuverability and nimbleness of something much smaller, and all the confidence as speed that you get from any decent front engine, rwd car with good suspension.

My W124 300E served our family for decades, we sold her at age 28 years. The cars are so elegant, reliable, with good handling and the best ride quality I’ve ever experienced. Very fond memories :-) The W124 is a hard act to follow… but am now using a W211 E350, also very enjoyable.

Don't forget the biodegradable insulation on the engine wiring harnesses of the '94-'95 M.Y. The source of many electrical gremlins. By now most have been replaced, but I just ran across on a nice coupe that hadn't and was having stalling problems. I have a '95 E320 Station wagon. I love that car! Owned it longer than any other and still won't part with it.

Guys this is one of those cars where the issues are minimal, get a pre-purchase inspection and if the car checks out you will be fine. I will say this though, there are a shit ton of transmissions engines and body styles available, so do your research on those. If you decide to purchase a 1991 or newer w124 budget a new wiring harness if it hasn't been replaced.

For the part,We can get these part from japanese junkyard with decent price. Now the part come from third owner W124 in my country and scrap chassis to recycle factory. Cause COVID19 lockdown in Japan,So the seller can't select a part to us.

We who drove W123, thought that the W124 was a "spit and paste" flimsy "rush job." 😂 The test of time proved us wrong, rather surprisingly. The thing is that this was Mercedes-Benz, while Lexus came from a lucky dip parts bin. Some even had Yamaha V8 engines, yes, just as Toyota badge engineers BMW, Subaru, Daihatsu, Suzuki, etc., to this day. Isuzu even had a huge Hokkaido factory for building Toyota Diesel engines exclusively.

if overheating is a known problem as you said, and the all aluminum head warps due to even a slight overheat..look forward to a head gasket failure and an engine out remachining of the warped head, IF you can find a shop to do it, IF you can do without the car for 6-8 weeks and IF you dont mind shelling out 2 grand.

I've got an '89 260e and have had the same issues. Idled really nicely when cold but when at operating temperature, the idle fluctuated about 500 rpm and when I came to a red light, about half the time, it would stall. When driving, I had no issues at all. I replaced the overload protection relay which didn't really do anything. I discovered that the two rubber hoses feeding the idle control valve were cracked so I replaced them and that helped, but didn't eliminate the problem completely. I replaced the idle control valve which didn't really change anything. I couldn't think of anything else so I took it to a local mechanic who deals with older european cars. He said the throttle linkage was sticking at low rpm so he lubricated it and put it all back together. I only picked it up yesterday but it seems to have fixed the problem. In neutral/park, it idles a little bit high(around 900) but not so much that I'm going to worry about it. Fingers crossed that it's fixed! All the best with yours!

Many MB owners tend to brag about the reliability and claim, that they will go on forever. No they won't! My E420, just had a new transmision (original one from Mercedes Benz) + the engine was removed and rebuilt at a German Mercedes Specialist in youngtimer (274.000 Km, car has 100% Full Service History). The transmission was worn and bad, however the engine was internally fine, but all gaskets/sealing were leaking. An old Mercedes is expensive to maintain, if you want to experience the driving characteristics as when it left the factory. I advise against a project car/car without full service history. As you can see, I have had a big billand the car has been maintained as prescribed. ( it must be said in fairness, I have owned the car for 5 years before this renovation). As pointed out in this video, the w124 are getting old, which is a good thing to keep in mind, before buying one.
