- Ukraine’s government has purchased 986 drones in the last three months under its “Army of Drones project”. Kyiv appears to be creating a new air force made up of only drones and nearly 1,000 operators. According to Ukrainian Dy PM Mykhailo Fedorov, Ukraine has signed contracts worth $52 million for the new drones. Federov said that many of these drones are already helping the Ukrainian ground forces against Russia. For both sides, drones have been most effective when used to locate enemy targets and guide artillery fire toward them. Ukraine is also using non-military drones to spot enemy troops and to direct attacks.

I am always searching for any info on advancements in drone software. There is sooo much untapped potential in just software upgrade. Even the most basic like encrypted comms to avoid steal of control and some minimal autonomy in case of lost signal.
Old news! Ukraine has trained ordinary soldiers to fly smaller drones. About 20000 soldiers can fly smaller drones for surveillance, grenades or kamikaze use.

Hopefully the drones will still work over winter. Some components may freeze or may have shorter flight time
Air cooled or electric engines won't freeze.

you will get slightly shorter flight times, keeping the batteries warm helps, other than that they should be fine.
Standard Lithium batteries loose can lose close to half their performance in freezing temperatures. But I'm sure that can be addressed with insulation.

These things have become 'real.' They are a genuine threat on the battlefield and must be 'taken into account.' It's time to develop anti- drone drones! Suicide drones that fly within the lethal range and then blowup, taking out both drones. Or perhaps drones with air-to-air missiles, this of course requires the development of suitable small missiles. There is a need for this, I've seen videos of tanks destroyed by bomblets dropped by drones, and Russian soldiers scurrying around trying to avoid those same bomblets! This is an issue that needs addressing!

There are drones the size of a human hand that can go out 12 to 15 km undetected in day or night and relay GPS coordinates back to artillery operators in real time. You could have a drone operator relay the info to a second party from another 12 to 15 km away who then relays it to the artillery operator and you have a weapon system that can provide precise Intel to take out targets from 30 km away, all for about $500 and there isn't shit anyone can do to stop it. From the moment the drone leaves the operators hand till the moment the artillery shells hit the target could be a total of 6 minutes.

@@lalzgarra9493 Ukraine made a drone jammer rifle. Soldier aims at russian drone, and it falls from the sky. Widely used since summer 2022. However, the fact remains - there is no hacking of flying drones in mid air happening on the battle field.
Can be stopped if Russia could actually have and use it's jammers like their doctrine calls for. Even seen one video earlier in war where Ukrainian unit could not do it's mortar raid until the Russian Jamming shut off.
Various people probably sold off a lot of Russian Jamming equipment. And as shown in rest of army training poor and moral low and Ukrainian units raid deep.
To Jam you have to have several different units placed well and swap between them to prevent missiles fired tracking the jamming systems from hitting.
I’m sure defense companies in the u it’s states are already developing air defenses systems specifically for taking drones down. Less expensive batteries that can take down multiple inexpensive drones. Instead of having g to waste expensive missiles to take them Down.

It's not the size of the drone bomb that matters, it's the amount of shrapnel it releases. They don't need to kill Russians, just injure them. As we have seen so far injuring 3 Russians holding a defensive trench position, is better than killing 1 Russian soldiers holding that same position. The man power it requires to send them to hospital is a Btch, compared to 1 death Russian that they would just throw behind the trench.
It's always more effective to injure than to wound in war. Injuries always take more manpower than kills. You can leave the dead in haste. It's harder to leave the wounded.

Even better that the the hundreds to thousands of new and easy targets, eh hem, reservists, are all currently ill-equipped and ill-trained in combat first aid, making death come much easier and faster. Active duty personnel that are well-trained and well-equipped will come out top against any number of enemies that rely on quantity.

The wars of future would be again fought by using light guns as it was back in WW1 or even earlier. This would be due to small drones.
This war was the first one to mark the end of main battle tanks. Afterwards also the heavy artillery would die out due to drones like switchblade and Phoenix ghost. It will be too dangerous for the infantry to move with heavy armored vehicles because of easy target by the small drones.
Seems that AK47 will be again the main leading weapon for the Russian army.

The drones of future would be kamikaze ones large at the size of a anti tank missile. Those small drones are nearly impossible to be detected by the air defence systems and have also a long range.
Those drones would mark the end of the large scale use of heavy military hardware in future wars. In some extent they are already doing it in this war now. No more massive use of tanks, airplanes, Howitsers, MLRS and other big stuff.
The destruction of the military air base in Crimea looked like the job of those small drones.

Tehran is making a huge mistake here. This paradigm shift in warfare is guiding the future governance of traffic laws and municipal design. Does anyone really need to own a car? Seems like an entire neighborhood can bet by with 3 cars two pickup trucks 3 motorcycles and 20 drones to deliver pizzas, beer, medicines, and groceries. The money saved can stock a common industrial arts woodworking, metalworking and ceramic shop.
That would require coordination and community. Big ask!
