So I had to take the fiddle apart to fix an issue I had with the top blowing in and the bottom plate bowing out, I added a 1/8th thick piece of mahogany across the bottom plate and also a small patch under the bridge to keep the sound post from punching through and give some more support. a surprising outcome to this is the sound got better and the A string does not squeak as easily and I can play more in the middle instead of on top of the fingerboard to keep the evil squeak away lol. I did update the build blog on my website so if you build your own its on there with pictures.
Man, don’t you worry about voice over n stuff, this hand made violin looks great. After all it’s a “folk type” musical instrument what more do you want from it. You should be proud of your self, because your time now has real value plus you do what you like. So many people are wasting theirs lifetime... Keep doing what you do, and you know that music it self is a win.
I know off the top of my head that the strings at the nut should only be about the width of a business card. But the strings further down towards the bridge, im not sure atm but just look it up it will be the same for a normal violin.
@@HiltsyAdventure thanks, I am building one for a customer. I've never looked closely at a violin, and with the current lockdown I can't go to a music store to see one in person.
Thanks bud, I'm going to give the fiddlerman strings a try first .. fiddlershop.com/fiddlerman-violin-string-set-4-4.html .. they seem to be a little more in my price range lol. Even $30 seems like its too much to spend on strings since I have been playing guitar on and off for 20 years.

That's a beautiful sounding instrument! A super fantastic job sir! Thanks for sharing and the inspiration!
This sounds great !! . Your intonation is fine, but you can always add frets. That's what I do. Super job!!!
Sounds great! Better than expected for a thick-ish walled box violin. Great job!
You can be very proud of your build. Inspiring. Thanks for sharing.
The instrument sounds great. For just a week playing you sound quite good. This build is really nice.
I grew up playing the violin and building one from "rubbish" was a dream of mine for many years. Guess I'll try building one myself
Interesting build I will give it a try/ Thank you.
it sounds great good job!!
Really good sound, appreciated
It's tone is quite good for a box violin.
muito muito bom mesmo!
Cool violin 🎻
Sorry to comment 3 years later. How high should the strings be off the nut, and how tall shou.d the bridge be?

Nice build mate i do like the voice over better but over all good sound and good build
Thank you
Wow, that has a really nice old timey sound. Put a set of Obligatos on it and you could play Bach with the best of them.
