What Nairobi needs is metros/BRTs. Many motorists would gladly leave their cars at home for the expedience of functioning metro systems. Has this video covered that (e.g. the way in which urban planner Constant Cap objectively does?) Or is it one-sided? Was unable to watch till the end. Expressway isn't going to decongest the city, many bottlenecks at the exits to the 'raia' streets. No lessons learnt from Thika Rd. Not anti-development. Ngong Rd expansion was a wasted opportunity to include BRT lanes or light tram system. Very soon it will be redone...and redone.
Next should be train/ tram from Westlands to the airport, and also from Eastlands to the airport. This would be perfect to ease up traffic and also it would be beautiful to see from the uplifted expressway

The role of the Government is to provide the requisite infrastructure for economic growth. The private sector can do business efficiently leading to economic growth.
Simple math KSh 87,000,000,000 ÷ (27×12×30) days = KSh 8,950,617 per day ----> to just break even, divide that by 360 maximum for small vehicles from Westy to JKIA gives about 24,000 vehicles on a daily basis. Tell me, can such a road handle 24,000 vehicles in a day? Okay, maybe it can. Further divide that into a nominal 15 hour window, it gives 1,600 vehicles per hour. Further divide that into per minute, you have 27 vehicles, about 1 vehicle every 2 seconds, no traffic just a smooth flow. Assumptions, to just break even, you'd need 1,600 vehicles to travel the entire length of the road every hour, 15 hours a day, for 27 years. To make such a profit, you'd need about 3,200 vehicles to travel the entire length of the road, 15 hours a day, for 27 years. That would be insanely good. Rush hour isn't factored and bunching at the payment booths. If half of the vehicles were to pay cash, hopefully they take just 2 seconds so as not to clog up the checkout booths. If there are 3 checkout booths as seen, then there's a 6 second window to make payment and drive off without holding up traffic. That is possible, but still impossible and this project was unjustifiable. Until then, the guarantor, the Kenyan people, will repay.
Excellent superhighway. The remaining Mombasa road is still not good. Some sections of Mombasa road are not well done. Can this be rectified.Mombasa road requires proper lighting. Wait is too dark.
The next big thing should be public road transportation modernization. That means get rid of matatus and replace them with an organized professionally ran bus system. This will take a lot of political will.
I never considered individual car use as a sign of development. It contributes to pollution and catastrophic climate change. It impovirishes families by burning needlessly hard earned income which could be put to better use. It's a health hazard that causes stress and blood pressure, let alone body injuries and death. Besides, individual car use growth is exponential and no infrastructure development can beat it. I proudly don't own a car and don't intend to have one any time soon.
