This is a re-housed Sigma 150-600mm lens, orginally built for full frame cameras. A lens I formerly owned. On an MFT system this lens isn't just equivalent to 300mm - 1200mm, it's also acts like a f/10 - f/13. The Sigma branded version of this lens cost £1400 less, but will give you a 1 stop boost in performance on FujiFilm and 2 stops on Pansonic/ Sony. Like some of OM Systems other lenses, this is greatly over priced and actually a little insulting to OM users.
completely agree, unfortunatelly
The f value it's the same, what acts as a f/10 -f/13 is the depth of field, due to the crop factor and the distance to the subject. But the exposure is the same on any sensor size, the image on a FF won't be brighter at the same ISO and shutter speed. But yeah, it is absurdly overpriced, I completely agree on that.
Even at 2kg, I reckon this lens will be extremely popular. Yes the Sigma design will annoy a lot of people with the price hike but you can't get this specs anywhere else. OM system has modified it and put Sync IS at 6ev for the long end, if that's true and 1200 at 6 EV, that's even better than the 150-400 pro because with the built in teleconverter, I don't think it will have 6 EV anymore. It has better weather sealing than the Sigma and it works with the two MC teleconverter, you are not getting these features with the Sigma lens alone and you can to 1200mm with m43 instead of a crop in 900mm with either APSC bodies or full frame. OM system knows it and that's why it charge us the premium
I’ve had mine for a couple months. I realize it’s expensive, but it’s more fun than a barrel of monkeys. A 1200mm angle of view and excellent stabilization make it a great lens.
The reviewer's comment that, with a teleconvertor, this thing has the reach equivalent to a 2,400mm on a full-frame is somewhat irrelevant when attempting to shoot birds in flight; or even hopping about in a bush.
If the subject's far enough away to keep in frame the sheer volume of grubby air between it & the camera will ensure lovely soft images {:0)
It’s a Sigma lens but £1,500 more expensive?
thanks so much.
The 150/600mm when it is at 400mm, the aperture should be below f6.3?
If so, this lens probably interests me.
They should make it cheaper, or if this price, then 150-600 / f5.6 at the telephoto end.
this lens is just a rebranded SIGMA 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG DN OS Sports with a high price tag. I'm sorry.
NOT an Olympus lens. Unnecessarily too large in construction as it's originally made for full frame cameras, too expensive. Sorry!
Not a pro lens well described as for the wildlife enthusiasts lens.
