I've always thought that writing music for a String Orchestra is similar to making a film in black & white. You are denied the use of colour from the other three sections. Here Fuchs creates his own "colours" brilliantly. Not as good as Tchaikovsky did, but pretty close to it. Never heard this before but it certainly doesn't disappoint. The bass line writing is particularly impressive.
