As a 67 yr old woman with health problems, no amount of practice will let me dance Hopak. But your dancing gives me such joy! Your strength and grace remind me of when I was young and strong. When my lower leg cramps from normal movement, I think of what my legs would say if I tried to squat on one and kick out the other so quickly, and I laugh. It is an odd, gloomy laughter but as a Russian maybe you understand laughing at things that hurt. Thank you for sharing your beautiful dance and your joyfullness. This old American woman wants to rumple your hair and give you a cookie for making me smile and laugh on bad days.✌🖖

As someone who's done Hopak and ballet with a dance group from a young age I must say this is super impressive, especially in such a short time frame and practicing by yourself! Not to be critical but I have some tips that can really bring your dance to the next level. Your back is slightly arched, it will feel strange at first and require more hamstring strength but doing what I call an "evaluator squat" (shoulders, hips and heels in one plane perpendicular to the ground), effectively a ballet grande plie, will give the dance more power. The more upright posture will broaden your chest and bring more confidence to the dance. I'm assuming you've seen Virsky but they're the creme of the crop, their technique is the best to emulate. Something that sounds super easy but is maybe the hardest thing to master is dancing with your face. A big smile with an upwards head posture makes everything look more effortless and playful. The last thing is more stylistic, but pointing your toes instead of flexing them makes gives the kick more of a punch, however you'll need different boots for that lol. Keep up the good work, you have a bright future with a beautiful wife in your future, ladies love a dancer. The hopak is a fun dance. But for some people you can hurt your calf muscles. I know how to do it perfectly and it's thanks to this guy right here. I even taught one of my own friends how to do it

Do you know any strategies to help not hurt the calf muscles? Every time I put pressure on them it hurts and I can only do this dance for a short amount of time. Otherwise, I’d be able to do it very well. :(

Lmao idk why but i suddenly learnt how to do moscow. So, i was in pe when i tried to do the cossack dance, then i found out that i could do it. Idk why but i guess my brain really loved that dance.

Hi bro i'm trying to learn this beautiful dance but i have during the sessions a weird pain in the outside of the calf(when i jump to alternate legs). What do you suggest to do?

How much is your weight because i'm 1,97m and 84kg and it is extremly hard to jump with one leg with my whole body weight.
im 179 cm long and i have 57kg

You can try to use Ukrainian national clothes or clothes of Kuban Cossacks for your dance. You are talented, don’t work for the dark side please 🙏
