Okay so this video is pretty outdated at this point! They fixed alot of my problems with the game when they released their Anniversary Update. I still sunk tons of hours into this game since launch and enjoyed most of my time with it despite its flaws, so don't think I completely dreaded my adventures thus far. Anyway, enjoy the video and enjoy the fact that the game is massively better than it was last year! Cheers, mateys.
Yay the game is pretty epic now

Yeah pretty much sums it up. I love the game and have even kept playing after becoming a pirate legend but I can't deny its repetitive.

I know this is an old post, but the video was made back when the game first came out. There was none of that. Was basic skeletons, and just doing voyages. There was no random loot in the water etc.
At least the game is getting more and more content every month. Sooner or later the game will be as good as we’ve always wanted it to be.
This video was made near release obviously when the game was more shallow than a bathtub. But now and even 5 months ago I think it is as good as people hoped it would be.
This game is so good now
@@not7170 yeah, what we will do today? fight skeletons or fight skeletons?
@@5c0rp10nStuff Fight skeletons, or megalodons, or krakens, or fleets of ghost ships. Or take on forts, or other players both randomly on the seas and in arena contests with new destructible ship parts and various types of special cannonballs, or solve puzzles and beat platforming challenges in the Tall Tales while discovering the game's story and surprisingly deep lore.
I'll give ya that the game was shallow, boring and repetitive at launch, but to act like they haven't added _loads_ of content since then would be just outright disingenuous.
@@5c0rp10nStuff rip you lol
Things they fixed:
- Chests you can occasionally open (but only for different types of loot)
- Extra uses for specific skulls (but mostly just ritual skulls)
- Slight variance in skeleton appearances
- Bounties - in the form of emissary flags, which while not required, are almost necessary for grinding.
- Random commendations for titles
- This is technically separate, but the higher frequency of skeleton ships, sea monsters, etc. make dying and losing the resources that you HAVE to stockpile suck a bit more.
- You get treasure for killing the kraken
- You can sell the tentacles for gold
- Cooler quests, mostly tall tales
- Bug fixes that reduce crashing
- Technically, cursed canon balls, blunderbombs, firebombs, and chainshots are new weapons, but not really
- The increase in sea monsters is kinda more than just skeletons, still mostly skeles tho
All in all, much much better, and I'd say worth the sixty dollars now. Still needs more work.
Actually, it's 40 dollars now (both on Steam and the Xbox app for Windows)
In the new update tomorrow there’s 5 new enemy types, a new weapon that you have to find just sitting there randomly, and in the new tall tales you get to see the kraken’s head.

Personally I actually enjoy Sea of Thieves. It is more about the journey and the memories made along the way for me. Like when taking on the Skeleton Fleets, we had two galleons, three brigs, and a sloop all in a fleet. At the very end we all agreed to load up on one galleon with all the loot, everyone jumps aboard, and we sail back as one crew. We passed a brig near Galleon’s Grave who freaked out when they saw about 19 players on a galleon all waving, shouting ahoy, and dancing. We turned in our cargo, not caring who got what, then partied in the tavern before taking a group photo outside, adding everyone, and parting ways.
"I enjoyed this game"
"I have friends and we made our own fun"
You can bring friends to watch paint dry simulator and still find ways to make your own fun.
Literally any game can be the best game if the mindset is play with friends and ignore everything else. Superman 64 is a broken, unpolished mess of a game that has no right to exist. Get me and my friends together and it's the greatest game of all time. A game with little content and reward, uninteresting gameplay, and lack luster combat is still all those things with or without friends.
It's the make your own fun argument which is often a massive red flag when that argument is brought out.
Myla Starseed
Yes it does because ripping on that game while playing it was extremely fun and funny. However, it's still a God awful game that doesn't deserve to exist.
I said uninteresting gameplay as a whole. I know voyages aren't the only things. The gameplay is still uninteresting.
Are you asking why the "make your own fun" argument is a massive red flag? Because it's always followed with a dull game that has such little content that the only way to have fun is to get friends involved and just do random stuff. Destiny, The Division, No Man's Sky were all given the exact same defense when the games came out. Sea of Thieves is the same in that it there's not much to it and what's there isn't fun.
Myla Starseed
Does this _"Sea of Thieves"_ have paint that's drying?
Just want to throw my hat into the ring,
I get both sides of the argument, I've been on both.... But SoF is, not has it ever been about "gameplay" like that guy on about N64 Superman said, with friends you can make THAT fun.
And no that isn't an excuse for lack of content.... But it is a ploy to get people to play games like we used to before "Content" trumped "Fun" give me a few Hardy sailors willing to stop the grind for the journey, and I'll give you a murder mystery, or a game show, or a scavenger hunt, or a cult to legendary god status painter Bob Ross!
And those are just a few examples, but like I said I get both sides, some people just want to have fun with JUST what they have, others want to break things to make new fun.... That's just how people work. To each his own I suppose.
(And redice or reddice, what ever your name was, if you read this far, kind of? If you can call sinking a boat with a few buckets of water "watching paint dry" it's just as boring in the end....)
“So if we aren’t digging up ancient treasure, what else do pirates do?”
Look up “What Happens when Shanty Singers Play Sea of Thieves.”

Sea of salty selling
2 years later: there’s so much to do in this game that you’ll never get sick of it
And you still can’t do anything with the treasure except selling them
And there’s cursed chests that blow up, and ones that cry, you can sink a boat with the crying chest. There’s also chests that have tomes inside that are used for unlockables and basic chests that can be opened have gold in them and other gold treasures to be sold. Sooooo... Yes you still sell them but you actually get stuff out of it like cool clothes and weapons and ship customizations. Oh yeah and there is a new skull that works a flamethrower... need I go on, it is very clear this game has way more content than before.
I just wish there were other things you could buy with gold and also that people wouldn't spawn so close to you after you just sank them. It can be annoying sinking a ship just for it to be back 2 minutes later.
I remember in the beta that we would hold someone hostage in the jail cellar and go to the red sea and have em just stick down there while the boat sinks.
While yes it may sound dark, it was fun.
Better than that, lock someone in the brig and fill up the ship with buckets until there's just an inch left.
They'll drown over and over again every time they respawn.
Why would they take that away
Hostage taking without a jailbreak mechanic sounds unfun for the hostage. Probably why it's gone.
*Breaths in* ......Mechanics..
Or lack of mechanics
"bUt tHE SaILinG" proceeds to ignore hundreds of games who did it better or atleast has something to do while going from island to island
Mechanics? You mean like the random knock back feature you have no control of when it happens? How about the one move the sword has (or two if you count useless dashing) and everyone spams it through objects to stun you and hold you in place. Yes, mechanics. Game is garbage.

thefacepalmman right, I love the game but this inventory system is broken. They need to encourage more pvp
Spoiler, it didn't rowboat and some more generic islands with annoying homing fireballs (because fuck programming it in a realistic but challenging way, just make it a missile) did not save the game, and by how fucking slow they are at adding features it will be a long while before anything worthwhile happens
Eh, If you didn't like it before, you probably won't like Forsaken Shores. There's no real big upsets or gameplay changes. Some quality of life additions and a new area that gives better loot at the cost of a lot of irritating obstacles. It's nice stuff if you enjoyed the game already, but I wouldn't think it's enough to change someone's opinion of it.
nope. The same people who defend this pirate costume simulator will say yes. But its still a boring grind fest pve wise. A huge timesink for no real reward. The new location is cool, had some fun there but outside the rowboat addition (which shouldve been in game at launch) is the only I thing I really cared about. Still waiting to see npc ships trading around the ocean besides the salty pirate captains I’ve dunked in the ocean one too many times.
I literally have a video of my character being juggled by 4 geysers until I died from fall damage. This was as soon as we killed all the new captains. The volcano then erupted destroying our boat before we respawned.... great experience. Also the volcano that erupted was a mile away but still sniped our ship.

@@matt.2708 like what? Giving you upgraded cannons and hull? That's mobile game crap!
@@PBI45 I agree that this game should have something to strive for. Imagine a system where people can have varying playstyles where you have to play different to overcome them. It would give the game so much more depth and make some form of progression system. And don't use the "but new players" argument... please
The cosmetic progression system is nice because it keeps losing penalties low while still rewarding winning as well as keeping skill the main winning factor as there’s no numerical difference between a 100 hour player and a 10 hour player but the skill between them.
As for “not worth it,” joy is in the journey man.

Myla Starseed Rome also wasn’t released as a fully finished product in this state. Metaphors aside, sea of thieves has yet to make any significant progress since its release besides like a couple bosses. When you try to take out any difference between the guy who just started and the guy at “endgame” you end up with a bland game. You never feel stronger or more powerful in sea of thieves, most of the cosmetics are horrendous garbage and there’s little penalty for dying
Myla Starseed people also didn’t have to fund Rome with any fear that they might not get a finished product at any point. You don’t fund betas, and this game is not finished.
Edit: Typos
I think I got that point man, you're missing _mine._ There was no fear of Rome not ever being built, there is literally NOTHING holding Rare/Microsoft accountable to deliver on ANYTHING.

omg you deserve so many more views, the comedy and animation, and how accurate the video is just phenomenal
Within my first 15 minutes of the game besides the beta I met these awesome people who taught us about alliances (They also turned in treasure and got us free money) and the new game mechanics then told us to follow them on a quest (voyage) then about 5 minutes into sailing we fought the Kraken which was fucking scary as having a giant tentacle grab your ship isn't the best thing in the world. During the Kraken fight another ship came up allied with us and started fighting it and then after it was defeated we went and fought a skeleton horde which was very fun. The original guys ship sank during the ordeal and 1 of them tagged on our boat and the other was kinda dead at an island. After that we found a bunch of cursed cannonballs and shot them at each other for achievements. Anyway my second voyage megalodon first 10 minutes.

You can make a game with no main story line where the player the players "make their own fun", plant of other games have done it, but you have to remember the most important part of that game type: you have to give the players the tools to do so. Minecraft: Plenty Rust: Plenty, this game: ...............
You mean besides huge pirate ships to sail around, islands to explore, ancient beasties to kill, players to kill, quests to complete...
Nah you're right. We need the ability to make bases made of dirt and write "fuck" in the sky with square blocks....
