To answer your last question, yes, this solo playthrough was super useful in me figuring out my first solo game! There are a lot more moving part for the AI than what I'm used to for solo modes so seeing it in action was life saving.
For what it's worth, there are some elements of difficulty that can be altered a bit here. Like, having the Oracle included definitely reduces the difficulty. It's a special thing that purely adds an option for the player only, while also being a ruin that sort of clogs up the board in exactly the right way to make it a lot harder for the AI to drop dwellings. So, pure positive for the player. Also, adding the dragon is a big element; I get the feeling that solo is kinda meant to be played with that added on. That being said, what I've noticed is that the AI does not need to have that many dwellings to score big. The fact that it only had ONE, yet still made for quite a close game, says a lot there. I had a playthrough like that earlier today, where the AI didnt get many dwellings out, but the only reason I won was because of an extremely specific adventure card that I bought at EXACTLY the right time... without that careful buy I would have lost. Overall it's been interesting to see how people are reacting to the solo mode, opinions seem to vary wildly! Though that seems to happen quite a bit with solo modes in general. But that's enough rambling. This was a very good video, I bought this game purely for soloing myself, and this did a good job of helping me make sure I wasnt missing anything when playing it myself.
Thanks so much for the comments!! It sounds like I added the wrong thing, should have put in the dragon. Going to try that next!! Thanks so much for watching!! Good luck on your adventures
The only thing that tripped me up on setup, was the ghost treasure tokens. Because I drew all 3 nature element for the starter board and ran out of treasure as it all went to the main board. At least the rulebook states to fully setup for 2 players before you get to the ghost setup. So that means a blank treasure slot for him.
Hey Colin, amazing game ! just received my 2nd hand copy of the deluxe edition, your video helps a lot understanding the flow of the game, thanks a lot. I'm so excited to play this game in solo tonight, really looking forward ! The AI looks challenging, which is great IMO. Keep up the great work my friend !
Hi Colin, I am following all of your solo playthroughs a while now and I really love each and every single one of them. Thank you for your awesome work and for the enthusiasm you are putting into every single of your videos. I was struggling to get my hands on Dwellings of Eldervale for a long time - my concern was: Due to its shiny appearance, the actual game experience behind that might be less satisfying. Your video helped a lot to get a sense of the game experience - especially solo. You proved me very wrong and I am glad you did. Thanks to your playthrough and explanations, I ordered the retail edition a few days ago and looking forward to get this on my table soon. Keep up your great work!
That is so awesome!! Yes this one feels a bit over produced but there is a solid game here that I sincerely hope you enjoy!! Thanks for making my day with this awesome comment!
I have done a few nice kickstarters now so might be able to help. Let me say that the look, feel and quality of this game is unbelievable. I mean this is another level and I have unfortunately the standard level as I missed out on Kickstarter. I just wish I had the Legendary version
With the battle at 35:55, the Ghosts had a worker, wizard, and warrior in the Underworld. Since the warrior rolls 2 dice, this should have added 4 dice, for a total of 5.
Very nice vid. Good explanations. I haven´t finished it all but I noticed a missed opportunity (as a tutorial vid). At 29:22 the workers would have joined the battle. Ghost of eldervale book, p.4, Ghost units in battle: "Ghost units always join battles in adjacent realms". Maybe you did it anyway with the warrior explanation. It seems like that when I watched a bit longer. But a clarification would have been perfect in that case.
Hey Colin i just got this game and went through a solo playthrough by following this video! The ghosts kicked my butt but i'm definitely coming back for more!
At 1:14:55, placing the Ghost warrior should have triggered a battle with the Bringer of Justice, and since he has his warrior, he could have actually won that battle, which would have moved him up on the Order track.
@@OneStopCoopShop Thank you so much for editing! I know it's very time intensive, but I appreciate the effort. I love how your play-throughs move at a quick pace!

Question-is the ghosts of elder vale an expansion? I don’t want to watch the play through and get super excited about it and then not be able to play it with out the expansion ;D thanks!
I've been enjoying this game myself solo but agree it looks like it will be more fun multiplayer. It appears the AI is really just giving you a score to beat and to "block" some actions - it isn't meant to act like another player at all. I didn't do the legendary backing because those sound FX bases just seemed over the top silly. This is the most beautiful game i own still.
Great playthrough! This game does look interesting, but I'm not sold at all on the solo mode (which is a must for me). I'm not impressed with the AI system at all. As we saw, it made incredibly foolish decisions as far as walking into battles where they clearly were disadvantaged, and required too many random things to line up in order to allow them to build dwellings, which are key. I think the issue is that there are just too many variables to create a "smart" AI that would have it make good decisions, rather than just being completely random. I hear it's a lot of fun in multi-player though, so maybe it's still worth a second look for me.
i agree mate, as hearing great things about this game for solo, so have watched a few videos and every time it seems to be quite foolish in the decisions, so looks like it is a skip for me as i wouldn't play it multiplayer.
@@OneStopCoopShop Could just try to play the SOLO with a blind draw of the AI cards, so this way the player cannot "read the mind" of the AI and add strategies to block his good moves. At 48.50 you gain a victory point by placing a unit in a space where you have a dwelling. I can't seem to find this in the rule book anywhere?
I wish I remembered it has been too long and I sold the game sorry!
I think he gained 1VP because of an Adventure card that he bought earlier in the game.
1:12:00 is it possible to place your worker at that tile? Don’t you have to place is adjacent to another of your figures?
Well sure if I had one out but I didn't so I can go anywhere so long as no other player is there! Hope that helps!
Hmm I'm on the fence. The game play looks just OK, but I felt that way about Spirit Island too, until I actually played it. Now it's one of my top 3.
