I have to disagree. If you are trying to speak czech, we are not laughing at you because you`re doing it wrong. It`s just unfamiliar that somebody wants to learn our difficult lanugage :)
As a native Czech speaker, I can confirm that even after more than 30 years of constant study our beautiful language, I still dare not write my first book. Trust me, I would love to, but I can't do that to my teacher, despite the fact that I am really competent in my native language according to the exams (unlike in English, sorry). Basically, everything's okay. At the age of 14, not even a native speaker can speak decent Czech. This is the essence of our diabolical language. I only found out in my study of Japanese that this is actually part of national defense. If you can't learn your own language without having to listen to the opinion of 4 linguists, then no one can ever fully infiltrate you, because who would want to infiltrate a country where no one can actually speak their own language perfectly? IMPOSSIBLE! Cheers to good fortune.
A wonderful monologue, Bryan. I think we and neighbors in Bavaria are good at beer because of the old know how of the Celtic Boii that gave name to both lands. Greetings from Pilsen, one km from the breweries, less than one km from Stock Spirits.
I would explain our language like this: It's zombie between languages. There is history behind this. For some time, it was believed that Czech language is dead. There was germanization in our lands and it was believed to be successful. Them there was two enlightened monarch that started reforms and allowed people to move around and not stay in place they were born. Suddenly, people from who-knows-where villages started to go into towns and cities. All of them speaking Czech language and everyone with their own version of it. This bought some national realization and man, people(academic mostly) started to think about their origin. So they thought:' Czech language is dead, but it would be nice to record it for future. So when it disappear for good, later generation will know something about their origin.' So they started to collect, record organizate propage it. It was so big success, that new group appeared, that said: 'Guys, se are going to save this language in the end! ' They started to make their own words (like čistonosoplena= clean nose diaper=tissue, thankfully this didn't survive) to replace words with foreign origin, fake historical documents and similar things. In the end, they success somehow and revived it into somehow functional language, full of holes and irrational rules that apply only half of time. It basically depends on your experience with it and already know what belongs where from using it enough times. It's madness. Beautiful, but crazy.
I've been to Holland's birth place just few kilometres away from cliffs of Moher. Sadly locals aren't much helpful in navigating to the place, few even know about it 😊.
Dont worry, i am a native czech but i allways have my "Tatar" moments (the moment when you will say the biggest nonsense known since the begining of time) which are sometimes frustrating but it can be laughed off (if you are around the right people ofcourse). I love this country, the endless howling of circular saws cutting firewood, the fact that you can get draft beer in a cafe to take home, the fact that they can't cook, their practical take on clothing( if it's hot, take it of ) or their lack of religion. If i could i move in a heartbeat! ( know a nice place near lake Lipno..)

Love your humour Sir! Everything on point. The landlockiness and limited ability to speak western languages throughout the industrial revolution made this valley inside a hill ring quite isolated. We consider exotics Carribean, Asian or African and do not often realize even westeners can find exotics here. This is Europes biggest advantage over America: diversity, even political one. USA does have totally different kind of diversities and those rather creates tensions in society as are not defined geographically. You mentioned standup. You act at some events? Good luck Sir :)

@@CzechinwithBryan There is not such a big difference between B2 and C1, it seems to me more like the classic Anglo-Saxon "overconfident", which means that you don't speak, let alone write, in B2. But I could be wrong.
