I think a vid on the frankly embarrassing end of the Burgundian Dukedom to the hands of an alliance of smaller states (including the old Swiss confederacy which were basically peasant states) could be a fun vid that would fit your style.
These "peasant states" as you refer to them, would go on to not only assemble the most fearsome central and western European mercenaries of their time, becoming papal guardians, serving as the inspiration for Maximilian I´s landsknechts (which they would promply defeat in the Swabian war) and redefining a new era of warfare, whose implications can be observed even as far as the spanish tercio. The host of Charles the bold was of formidable strength, so the three big battles in which Charles was defeated by the Swiss before his death were not as embarassing as one may think. Those peasants were nothing less than experienced and organized fighters. In addition, if I remember correctly, Charles also had trouble with unrest in his lands, so I would personally abstain from calling the defeats Charles suffered an embarassment.
@@marcn.3768 Calm down man, I'm Swiss I know what they are. It's just how the world saw them at the time, since they just had a few battles like Sempach and battles that probably didn't happen like Mortgarten under their belt.

@@teecee1827 Fair point regarding the Swiss being considered as peasants by nobility. I thought you were refering to them as farmers as an insult, my bad. Still, I would not go so far and call Charles defeats embarassing. What I meant to say was, that he was not beat by ordinary peasantry, but by professionells who would regularily sell their services as mercenaries and thus be both experienced and well organized. Furthermore, they used tactics which were very much ahead of their time, only being employed by very few other forces in Europe at that point (Scotland, the Flemish).

Also, you NEED to make a video(s) about Queen Isabella (the she-wolf of France), Edward II, and Edward III.
I second that suggestion.
2:37my brother and I laughed at this so hard we thought it was funny as hell
The sponsor ad today was phenomenal! You're getting really good at them!
Jack deserves so much more attention than he receives…this world is a tragedy.
He's 3 times my grandfather and twice uncle. He's also related to my badass Scottish grandmother, Black Agnes 😎
That was such a clever and funny way to include the ad u never cease 2 amaze me
I love the little touch of Monty Python Holy Grail music.
I always love a channel that can work a ad covertly into the video that improves the video instead of derailing it.
You have the best ad reads on UA-cam. Actually the only time I don’t just spam the right side of my screen
Ok yours add reads are top tier!
Thank you for that Numberwang reference 🙏
The Outlaw King was a pretty good movie
I haven't seen EstablishedTitles before but there's thousands of these websites that boldly claim that you can legally call yourself a lord/laird or lady or whatever and they always put in the small print that people calling Scottish landlords "lords" or "lairds" of "Glenmore" is a colloquial term/joke and it doesn't legally entitled you to anything.
The house of lords even decided to weigh in on this and the court of Lord Lyons (the guy responsible for all arms and bearings in Scotland, as well as records of noble genealogies) directly stated that:
"The ownership of “souvenir” plots of land of a few square feet or thereby such as are marketed from time to time, is insufficient to bring anyone within the jurisdiction of the Lord Lyon King of Arms."
As far as I'm aware the only way of "officially" buying any sort of feudal (let alone an actual peerage title) title in the UK is through manorial lordships and even that's rife with scams and the house of lord again came out and warned people to not only fall for these scams (and then call and complain to them that is) but that manorial lordships only entitle you to getting a "Lord of X Manor" on your ID and that's about it.
Scottish laid titles absolutely can't be bought and sold and especially not with useless tiny "souvenir" plots. It doesn't entitle one to anything.
Edit: also, these scam sites are sometimes money laundering schemes or phishing scams on top of being regular scams as well. Be very careful everyone.
Counterpoint, nobody thinks they are going to waltz into the House of Lords by buying one of these things. It's a bit of fun.
@@mhug162 though often linked to shady Channel Islands “charities” not registered in Scotland who are very shifty with hiding their finances. These types of companies are well known in the UK legal systems at this point.
The entire point of these plots is for the silliness.
@@baneofbanes so tell people to print their own certificates for a few cents rather than paying between 50 to 500 dollars for the same thing. The plots are virtually worthless because they're tiny, you can't legally do anything with them and they're shared with like a few thousand people or something.
@@mhug162 it's a literal scam though, by the very definition of the word. You give them money for something they promised and they give nothing in return (not even that useless plot of land is really yours, you share it with like ten thousand people). And you can't say nobody falls for this because people have literally complained to the British government about it, it's why they released numerous statements similar to the one I quoted. Hell, even the ad in the video acknowledges that a lot of people who buy these things think they're actually getting an actual legal title in return.
Sure it's a comparatively small scam that "only" robs you of 50 to 500 bucks but it should still be called out imo. Besides, I really really don't trust a scam business on their charitable promises and if they're making enough moolah to buy a UA-camr's soul they're probably scamming a whole lot of gullible people.
That was your smoothest ad so far. It took me a minute to realize that it was an ad
I freaking love this channel!!even your adds are funny! I didnt have fast forward through it haha
Absolutely love all the Monty Python and the Holy Grail references!^^
Holy bagpipes Batman! I can't believe you did it! I wish you had covered the Bruce's invasion of Ireland too though.
Oh man that is a fustercluck worth a video on it's own.
I just found this. When i was going to listen to your work while working
lol, welcome to the cool kids club finding this before it goes live
@@JackRackam epic
I thought OP was a time traveler because he was so early.
Robert The Bruce. The OG King in the North.
Everything about this is glorious. Between the Python references, “long time nae seen”, and Numberwang there is nothing to dislike about this video.
6:44 I love how you photoshopped a wall in front of the Gravensteen castle in Ghent, Belgium 😂
Jack...you should probably know that established titles is a scam.
This seems to be less about how great Robert the Bruce was and more about how appallingly incompetent Edward II was, guess that made it topical to pride month at least.
That ad was as smooth as single malt scotch.
Sabaton fans, wya?
NOW THAT THE TIME HAS COME TO FIGHT, SCOTLAND MUST UNITE!
WE’LL MAKE A STAND ON STIRLING GROUND
Today on ‘every American thinks incorrectly they can do a Scottish accent.’
Seriously imagine putting on an ‘Indian’ accent for a history of Chakravatin.
This wasn't even up 30 before I clicked on it! It popped up as a notification and I clicked it before it even settled in the notification window!! 😄
Ah ha! I already know all this because I studied it as part of my Higher History course! I have bested you at last Mr Rackam!
lol I love the try at the Scottish accent :D I am sure there will be pissed people about it but I found it very entertaining.
You really just baked that adread perfectly
You never fail with your videos and I was out of breath from the Ad
Robert the Bruce and Lei Loi is the two guy that start as rebel noble become king of his own country win guerrilla warfare
Nice accents, nice jokes, nice video in general. Well done Jack
"Oh my god I think we're in an ad!"
This has to be the best way to incude an ad I've ever seen.
The voice acting in this is impeccable.
The Monty Python and the Holy Grail red was perfect and made my day
Did anyone else notice the Mitchell and Webb Look reference?!
@@marcn.3768 And Burgundy was at the time one of the richest states in Europe, with one of the most modern army and doctrine of the time.
I also know that capturing all of the Burgundian cannons, which at the time were top of the line, set back the Swiss decades in Artillery use since they became complacent and didn't look for newer weapons for a while.
Oh my God, I think we have an ad! :) best ad segue ever.
Maybe one about Michiel de Ruyter an admiral who coated his ship on butter to fight pirates, and he defeated the royal navy in their own port
Man ads like these make me want to watch em! Good job! xD
