Scott Suhre - one reason why he taped it was so the center fuse stay in place and keeps burning next to the other two he splits off to. So the center fuse will keep burning and the other is tide in and tape right next to it so it will catch from the center one. As long as you have more then a inch tape together is should light.

All of the green shell fuses into the gray trunkline fuse connections appeared to be correct, so it is just odd that he went the wrong direction when he split the gray trunkline

Notes: 1. You put your head and torso over loaded guns. BAD form mate.
    2. NEVER, connect your ematch terminal before you have placed it on your match (or fuse whatever your want to call it). I realized later that this was just a nichrome wire (NICE shroud on it). But still treat this as an ematch brother. Static CAN set them off and it is "safe" when the wires are shorted. Also from a professional point of view, keep your leads split out and only allow a short amount of copper to extend out past the terminal (I like to loop them to give extra contact possibility). Once I moved to this it was easy to mandate to my crew "No wire plastic should get closer than 3mm to the terminal, and no copper should extend more than 3mm from the terminal". Every show has been 100% (except the rare bad ematch. Most of my 4th of July shows range from 380-400 cues. Yes, it takes longer to do it, but I hate shooting shells post show, and I don't like to request a transport permission from the LAHJ post show. (more paperwork)

Yep, my thought exactly also! The wedgie deal you described, the mess of expensive zip ties and the ease of the masking tape. Plus... I make a quick match fuse with masking tape and it burns very, very fast because it traps the fire and it accelerates inside the tube of tape. It looked to me that his length of fusing should have made about 1 minute and 20 seconds of showtime but his rack was done in just at 1 minute. I believe the fuse sped up due to the tape running the entire length of fuse.

@Nuna Beeznezt ive actually made several in the past. Sometimes itll take a couple lit ones before they simultaneously all light off. So many contained sparks in the bucket and they just self ignite. Ive even put a couple packs of roman candles in with them and ive shoved cannon fuse throughout the bucket with one central wick to ignite. Id say with rockets you wouldnt struggle since they admit alot more sparks. Maybe bend a few wicks to the side to help start them. Forewarning make sure you light that bucket in a field after it rained as the bucket guaranteed will catch fire and melt into a blob. Ive made that mistake before.

At the end of the initial row, the fuses should be reversed so that the burn leads into the second fuses, wasn't wired that way. Masking tape over the center fuses is fine, but you didn't cover any of the primary fuses, the 'coals' can go into the tubes and light those fuses just as easy. It sounds like there was some fuse jumping there.

  • @bryanmiller7234
    @bryanmiller7234 3 роки тому +7

Uhaul brown tape is faster for setup and keeps the fuses pushed together during the entire overlap. Also the overlap burn depends on your fastest fuse. Mortar fuse is normal 5 second fuse (.5 seconds per inch) vs green perfect fuse at 15 seconds (1.25 seconds per inch). This setup will cut your time .75 seconds for every mortar assuming you use a consistent 1” overlap to the main fuse. Based on that you may want to move it to a slower main fuse to ensure your timing is correct.

You'd think a guy who makes a video about this would know how to do it. The firing order was inconsistent as hell. You constantly had 3 shells going off at once. That's just a waste in my opinion. Steady fire one after the other is the way you wanna wire these. leave about 3 to 4 inches of perfect fuse between each shell. Maybe introduce some fast fuse at the very end for the last 5.

@@TheJustgetitdone330 It all depends on what you want to see. This wasn't a shell demo. If you thought this was sky puke, then I'm not sure what you're looking for when firing shells. This is nothing compared to the sky puke some people send up. You can't put on shows with one shell firing at a time. The audience would laugh or boo you off the shoot site. LOL

Using zip ties is not a smart thing to do. 1) they can smolder long after the rack is spent, causing secondary unintentional ignitions of other pyrotechnics or grass etc. 2) study the basics of how a fuse works. I doing so you will find that using Uhaul packaging tape is the best route. Not only is it sticky as hell but fuse that is shrouded creates more heat ensuring the next fuse will light.

Do you clean the carbon buildup in each tube after a few firings or do you clean them every time thy're used?? Would the mortar tube's I get with the excalibers Mortar pack work well enough? They do have really thick bases on the tubes and the upper part is also much thicker then fiberglass tubes I've seen, and I have reused them as single shots many times. I just need to clean the carbon buildup so the shells/canisters go all the way to the bottom of the tube. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks from a fellow Pyro. ;)

We clean our mortar tubes to remove paper debris in the tube. Not for Carbon buildup. Motars need to fit solidly on the bottom of the tube or your going to get a "low lift" and an explosion close to you. I am a licensed pro and have never cleaned a tube for "carbon buildup".

Yep, my thought exactly! I make a quick match fuse with masking tape and it burns very, very fast because it traps the fire and it accelerates inside the tube of tape. It looked to me that his length of fusing should have made about 1 minute and 20 seconds of showtime but his rack was done in just at 1 minute. I believe the fuse sped up with due to the tape.

I'd only use products designed for the specific firework I'm using. Cardboard tubes are only designed for short term use but they're ok to use over again as long as they aren't showing signs of wear.
Fiber or HDPE tubes are the way to go if you're wanting to build your own long term mortar racks.

Why so big & heavy ?
Why 50 when all sleeves are sold in 24s for the most part ?
Why fiberglass tubes ...HDPE is the safest class C or B ?
Where is the Pyro Creations reality blueprints & ground thoughts ... I will not build racks that big 24 max ... Fireworks has one thing that nobody realizes it's a lot of physical labor at the end of the night at a show the last thing you want to be doing is picking up a heavy oversized rack that is cumbersome makes no sense also if I want to dump my tubes out because they're accumulating too much paper discs I'd rather have to pick up 24 tubes or less than 24 tubes if they're loose in the rack to dump it out then 50 ...
U want 48-50 shots not wanting help to move racks build in 24's set 2 racks together hell you can leave a 10 in 12 inch space between them for safety in case you get a blowout .. I still run my shoots with no more than 24's still use a hand truck a.k.a 2 wheel dolly to make it easier on my back there's No award in a firework show for the guy who can pick up the heaviest objects hahaha NO
Fireworks are hard enough don't engineer yourself with big racks ... Most of the time I see guys with big racks for Class C they haven't done Class B you find me one person who likes setting up a Class B show moving all the tubes or racks ...??
Secondly when you build your racks in 24s figuring out how much product you need is way easier case of shells 24 × 4sleeves = 4 racks done with it ... That alone is reason enough ... want 12 shots to a station in ur show?? with the 24 rack just out less in it's still more stable than a 12 rack my theory on a 24 rack works all angles had a 30 rack when I started this addiction I was either leaving the show with shells or buying another sleeve maybe that's why all these manufacturers go over under the 24 wow wouldn't that be a huge shock right !?!!? Someone looking to increase sales this way SHOCKER believe it cuz I guarantee it was a huge Factor thought follow the $$$ you find your answers 95% of the time
Go for the safest tubes possible you ever seen a 4-in fiberglass tube blowout?? I did July4th 2017 it was part of the finale my buddy lighting the chains is still talking about it to this day ... He is scared of fiberglass tubes ... I avoid them anyway possible ... Fireworks are not fun when someone gets hurt all the focus goes there everything else goes out the window ...
Building in smaller devices also has another safety Factor if I get a blowout I only have to worry about 11 other shots (not 50 piled on top of each other) two rows of 12 with that much spacing with class C I don't have to worry about it ... safety comes first in Fireworks
