- Finally upgraded to mod1 gearing. I needed more power straight off starting line to get most of my speed in from the get go. Hopefully the motor & ESC can handle this gearing. If not, may have to upgrade to a 2250kv motor & 160A ESC.

I’m running 16/40 Mod1 same gear ratio pretty much, & she’s rips boy!

I’m running the vxl setup with lipo 5800 2c my esc can handle up to 3c but I’m just now running a lipo battery for the first time. I built it ten years ago and then just sat it down never ran it 🤷🏾♂️

It's been 3yrs since this vid & I'm about to get her back on the road again for that 100mph+ that I never hit cuz she sat on the back burner too long lol.

Awesome, you're going to love it!!! Being an VXL, you're going to have awesome power right off the bat. So my advice for 1st upgrade, get the RPM front wide bumper, trust me lol 😄
They're cheap, just picked up 2 for my kids Traxxas bandits that I'm giving them for Xmas, they were like $6-7 at my local hobby shop. Cheaper than the other parts you can break by not covering your front end lol.

RC Bustanut is this a speed run or for drag build ?
So as I’m typing I just got in from running my rustler that I had for over 10 years built it from the ground to make it vxl im finally using the vxl and I’m braking everything 🤣 killed my rear tires brought new one then broke my bellcam fixed that. Took it out for a run then killed my gear 📦
Lol 😄, plastic pieces can become brittle after years. Internal gears & bearings could have also become corroded after not being used for an extended period of time due to moisture in the air. Sound like she's going to need some TLC lol.
I'm in the of doing several repairs now myself. Broke an driveshaft axel @ 84mph during a speed run. Integy Gearbox bent really bad & chassis cracked a little bit at the rear mounting hole for the gearbox as well. Just got all d replacement parts, getting her ready to try again, soo close to the 100mph goal. She pulled in 4.3HP on that run, 104k rpm @ motor shaft, 157A on the ESC, 3250W. She still had plenty of road left when I hit 84mph & snapped the driveshaft axel!
Do the spur gear bolt directly to the stock slipper clutch

Yes, they have the same mounting holes. One note however, once you go Mod-1, you can't use the gear box cover anymore. The gear is too large.
Also, I recommend upgrading the whole slipper clutch assembly to the revo one, it's larger with aluminum pads. Because you will burn up the original ones quickly lol.

With that setup on this video, I believe I got her in the 70's. I wound up upgrading her to a Mamba Monster X w/ 2200kv motor. I had a bad crash testing her out, snapped an MIP axel @ 87mhp. I got her back together with some more upgrades since then, just hadn't had a chance to really get her back to the road due to now running an Armma Limitless & Typhon 6S. In the middle of upgrading the Mamba X8S to a Mamba XLX2 on my Limitless right now. Huge freaking ESC lol, need to make quite a few mods to make it work.
@@rcbustanut2057 Hell yea! Thats whats up! I got my Rustler to a tad over 70mph. Thats awesome for a Bandit! Dont blame ya on movin to a different vehicle. I like my XO1 even tho nobody else seems to speed run em. Definitely wanna get a Limitless tho!! Best of luck and fun with that endeavor!
I bought a set of those grp rims and tires they suck I had proline Street fighters just on stock hubs and I went to the 17 mm hex nuts to get the grp Wheels and I was running 65 mph on the prolines now with the grp I'm at 55 same gearing wtf
Not sure what size those proline are, but you have to take into consideration the circumference of the tires when you're gearing. Different size tires will give you different top speed on the same gearing. I use a speed calculator app on Android called 'RC Speed'. This app allows you to factor in your tire size, motor, batteries, transmission drive gear ratio, pinion, spur. I have had great results with it when setting up my Arrma Limitless & my recent stretched Typhon 6S. On GRP S5, I have pushed my Limitless to 122mph. I have ran it on GRP's, Contact GT8 foams, Hoons & BSR foams. I still find the GRP'S to have the best traction control on the road. The foams performed great but they get chewed up rather quickly. With the GRP'S I can get a handful of runs before having to replace them & they're slightly cheaper.

And not bad priced either. Will check them up for some new gears for my Arrma Typhon 6S, gotta gear her down a bit or change up the stock ESC & motor, cuz she gets hotter than a hooker's doorknob on payday! 😄

Awesome, I just geared her 'Way' down from the 34/34 gearing I had on her with a mmx 8S & 2200kv motor running 8S......I shredded the diff gears lol. I put back the MMX 6S & geared her down to 19/36. Put 1mil diff fluid in, max punch control and a serious curve on the throttle so I can speed bash on 4S lol. Or else she would just do donuts 😄
@@rcbustanut2057 my buddy still running stock gears on a drag slash C10 still does not understand the mod gear setup. I have a 1/8 2250 kv goin in a 1/10 LCG slash chassis with mod 1 19/38 slipper clutch delete all metal gears

96 miles an hour on what set of tires
On the GRP S5 tires, I only got up to 86mph on that car. I wound up blowing the MIP cvd axle mid run due tto a seized bearing that overheated the axle. By that time I wound up getting an Arrma Typhon 6S & the Rustler kinda stayed in the back burner till a couple months ago when I dropped a MMX 8S in it. I then blew the diff, but that's because I might have pushed it a bit too hard lol. The Rustler has gone under many upgrades since this video. I think I'm going to repair the diff & just put it on eBay for sale.

They're definitely bigger, bigger teeth (stronger, won't strip as easy). Also, for speed runs, you kinda have to go w mod 1. The original 48P won't allow for higher gearing. I'm geared at 34/34 currently. At 50% throttle, I was able to hit 65.29mph....and then I hit a tiny bump & broke the chassis 🤦♂️😄

How fast did you go on 2s?
Man, it's been so long since I rode that setup, if I had to guess, I believe I was in the 56-65mph range. I made a lot of changes after that video. Heck, earlier this year I decided to pull her out again & seriously mod her to run on 8S lol 😂
Then I blew the diff, maybe too much power 😁

GRP Tyres, S5 compound in this video. I dis change them to foam, Contact GT8. Much better grip!

wats a good gearing for drag
That's a question that's easier asked than answered lol. Due to a lot more than gearing involved. Need the proper ESC (very high powered), low kv motor, low suspension, very tall gearing (closest to 1:1 gear ratio possible), locked diff, gyro sensor. That is, if you really want to drag race at high speed, Fast take off with high top speed. Maintaining that car straight while taking off like a bat outta hell is not the easiest thing either lol. If she's not balanced properly, she will veer to the side, & from my experience, she will veer toward the passenger side (pinion/spur gear side). Plus adding weights, that's what I'm tweaking now, because even with 12oz weight added to my car on my last run, she still wheelie'd hard as she then popped the axel. Gonna try 16oz next.
With that VXL system you have, I saw the vids u posted, I would get rid of that 42 pitch gearing & go M1. You can get some good speed still out of that setup. Integy makes a 34T M1 spur gear that will fit, pair that with like a 24T M1 pinion & it will get pretty dang fast. Just need to keep REALLY close eye on the motor & ESC temperature. Oh, & once you go M1 gears, you won't be able to get the Gearbox cover on. Pinion & spur will be exposed.
You will definitely need a wheelie bar & or weights for the nose

What a good gear if you and using a castle 3800kv with mamba monster x for drag racing and going to do the mod 1 upgrade?
