Dominic Monaghan & Billy Boyd Answer the Web's Most Searched Questions | WIRED - Розваги
at the rate it's going, if Dominic's voice keeps getting deeper, in another 20 years he's going to sound like Treebeard.
I kind of want him to make ASMR videos. I find his voice both comforting and exciting.
🤣🤣🤣
The next Driveshaft album will sound like Barry White.
@@marcw6875 I'd actually be okay with that. I think it's kind of hot.
His voice sounds like he's faking it, like he's putting on a voice for fun
"How old is Billy Boyd?"
"Now, you'll never believe this because of my elvish young looks; I'm 52 years old."
"What? Really? What's your secret?"
"I shave my chest."
Could not stop laughing because he is so serious when saying this. 😂
Ent juice init?
I can’t stop laughing either; just the WAY Billy delivered this answer is hilarious by itself!! 😂
He didn't miss a beat.
This one actually had me belly laughing
I almost spit out my cereal ⚰️
Billy Boyd telling the story of how he turned 31 twice on a flight with Orlando Bloom feels so nostalgic, because he told the same story twenty years ago in the DVD extras in the EXACT same way.😆
I was watching the appendices of exactly that yesterday on youtube, but he said he turned 30 then. He might've tricksed his age at some point :D
He's had one 31st birthday, yes, but what about 2nd 31st birthday?
For real 😭❤️
I thought you were gonna mention the second breakfast as second birthday lol
It made me happy when I saw it too😁
"Is Pippin the real hero?"
"Yes" 😂
It's been months and months since I first watched this, and it still makes me laugh out loud. LOVE it.
Hahahaha, in the books and film but books especially, he is certainly ONE of the real heroes :D
but there's a whole video on yt saying why pippin is the real hero tho

Yes, they’re real hobbits.
This must be the most organically chaotic thing ever
Isn't it amazing how 20 years after the movies, these two don't get tired of talking about it, but absolutely love it and feed the fandom with wholesome content like this.
Also amazing how little they changed. If they wanted to, they could still play the young hobbits without much makeup needed.
I spent the entire video smiling. All the hobbits are so amazing and good people

Best trilogy ever made for me and the friendship of the cast is wholesome as
It's a shame Billy Boyd didn't get more recognition in Hollywood. He deserves to be more famous, prestigious.
I don't know, always had a feeling he prefered focusing on his music :D
He’s in the outlander series now too!
@@haileybrangers5270 thanks, I didn't knew about this série.
Billy Boyd IS prestigious. He participanted in the Best trilogy ever. Can't top that.
I think he’s doing just fine lmao
I honestly think that Gandalf was NOT intentionally mean to pippin; I think he was worried about him because Merry and Pippin reminded him of Fili and Kili whom he couldn't save.
Agree! I think Gandalf was actually very fond of Pippin all along
There were a few moments though, when Gandalf loved Pippin ever so slightly less.
GANDALF: Right. I think this is a good place to sleep as long as we are all very very qui-

@@MostorAstrakan That's fair 🤣
@@MostorAstrakan ahahahahaha fair, but it was clear how badly Pippin felt. The guilt after making it through the mines was heavy.

Question: What do hobbits do in lotr?
Dom: *proceeds to summarize the whol trilogy*
Billy: They also smoke
Lol It was great 😂❤️
Just wanted to say I love your name. Its also a Dream Theater song!
Dom: “Great point.”
I love these two
@@markfernandes11 Wait. Really? (And thanks! 🙂)
Dom and Billy arguing about their height is so in character for Merry and Pippin. It goes to show they weren't cast to play Merry and Pippin, they were cast because they were Merry and Pippin.
Ironically they're literally nothing like Merry and Pippin in the books. They were only made into comic relief for the movies (I'm not complaining)
@@ryanbailey349 They were a bit humorous at times in the books, but yeah--they had maybe the biggest personality changes of any character.
LOTR cast selection is phenomenal! Viggo is Aragorn, Dom and Billy are Mary and Pippin! Forget about RDJ as iron man, LotR has the best cast.
@@ryanbailey349 "Ash on my tomatoes!"
The irony of it is that Merry and Pippen were the tallest hobbits to ever live.
I find it so sweet how willingly Dominic and Billy are so willing to answer any questions related to Lord of the rings and they're genuinely excited to talk about it despite the movies being out for 20 years 😭
I just find it so heartwarming that they've stayed close friends all these years. You know actors who become best friends with their characters best friends are rare. These two embody merry and pippin to the life
I love three things about this video.
1. The fact that there are so many LOTR questions.
2. The fact that they're both not only answering them enthusiastically, but also properly.
3. Billy's accent.
They're like the opposite of Harrison Ford talking about Star Wars. Don't get me wrong though, Ford's indifference towards Star Wars is also something I love. Never gets old.
HAHA
For 2: when they were asked about the conspiracy of merry, pippin, and Sam, they said they have no idea. That question was referring to the chapter in the books called "A Conspiracy Unmasked" where merry, pippin, and Sam reveal to Frodo that they knew all along that Frodo was going to leave the Shire and they planned to go with him. So technically they didn't answer all the questions properly, but most of them
4. They're basically like Merry & Pippen IRL lmfao
3. I didn't get, he is Scottish and he has such smooth nice accent. How is it even possible??
"what do hobbits eat?"
Dom: lists all different foods
Me screaming at the computer: PO-TA-TOES
YES!
😂😂😂
Yes!
He said vegetables
The salted pork is also particularly good
Billy’s Scottish accent is amazing; I could seriously listen to him narrate an audiobook for hours! 👍🏻
He does. It's called attack of the unsinkable rubber ducks.
Oh I gotta listen to this
Both Billy Boyd and Dominick Mongahan did a podcast for Audible called Moriarty. Just in case you didn't know
The fact that Dom spent a good little bit telling everyone it’s “Merry” and not “Mary” made me laugh so hard. It always makes me laugh
It’s especially funny because in the US, they are perfect homophones.
Billy: “What about a Wired autocomplete interview?”
Dominic: “We already had it.”
Billy: “We had one yes. What about a second interview?”

This!!! I can't get enough of them

You just made my day!
Funny how Dominic's face hasn't changed, and Billy Boyd's voice hasn't changed in the last 20 years.
Look at Elijah Wood, he looks and sounds exactly like he did in LoTR
Billy Boyd's face has changed either. Not really. Just his hair makes him look a bit older. If you died his hair or put a wig on him and a bit of make-up he could still play Pippin.
That’s what happens when you stay off the hard drugs kids
@@phillabong520 3:13
@@puneetmishra4726 that’s a hard no.
In case anyone was wondering, the “conspiracy” between Merry, Pippin and Sam was simply figuring out that Frodo was going to leave the Shire (with the Ring). At the time, Frodo only thought Sam knew about it, but Sam spills the beans to Merry and Pippin so they can help.
Yes, especially because Merry and Pippin had always been suspicious of Bilbo disappearing all the time. Merry ended up seeing him use the ring once, and sneaked in to read the red book.
They also screwed up the pipe weed question. Tolkein says that it's a breed of tobacco in concerning hobbits at the beginning of the story, he also calls it tobacco a few times in the story itself. The director intentionally warped it to make it closer to weed because he wanted to
Honestly that makes more sense than the movie, in which Merry and Pippin just hop along for the ride and we never get a scene where they find out what’s really going on. It’s much more impactful when they know full well of how dangerous the trip will be but they insist on accompanying Frodo and Sam anyway.
Don't forget about Fatty, he also knew!
@@12classics39 I'm reading Fellowship for the first time and when I got to that part (just last night) it honestly made me cry.
This is easily the best autocomplete interview I've ever seen. Both of them are so ridiculously energetic and enthusiastic, and they have fantastic chemistry. And I really appreciate how knowledgable they are about the source material for the films they played in. I just finished reading the Lord of the Rings trilogy after the Hobbit and I'm very impressed with the breadth of their knowledge.
I’m extremely late but yes, I came to this interview after just finishing reading the trilogy and the hobbit, and also watching the movies and it makes me SO happy to see just how much they know about the books, as someone who loved the movies but prefers the books slightly more

I love their friendship! Billy is naturally funny and kind of silly.
It feels like Merry and Pippin were created for them.
"How old was Billy Boyd..."
"When he was born."
I love these two goofs! They're brilliant!
An interesting fact is that Billy Boyd was the oldest among the 4 hobbits actors in the fellowship, and he played Peregrine Took which was the youngest hobbit among the 4.
They all looked very very young. Boyd still looks young for his age
And in the books Frodo’s the oldest, whereas Elijah Wood was the youngest actor
They're like the Golden Girls of the Shire.

This got me and I immediatly searched for this comment to vote up! :D
THAT was hilarious.
"What's your secret?"
"I shave my chest."
That caught me so off guard, I spat my drink
It makes me sad how actors never know anything about their characters or even the lore behind their films. These two however, could write their own Lotr movie! Love it!
I love their passion so much about Tolkien's world. It shows in the movies
I think it was a requirement for the characters. (That's why the actor took up gollum) the riders in the battle of Rohan had to have read the books and know the scene to ride in the front.
Billy and Dom debating about their respective heights is exactly like what Merry & Pippin were doing in Fangorn forest. Love these both so much
So true 🤣
I was literally thinking the exact same thing lmao!🤣🤣
Nice catch
Confirming that Merry IS the tall one
Lol and they were hitting the pipe
The amount of LOTR related questions did not disappoint. It's funny that Dominic Mona(g)han and Billy Boyd still have the exact same energy as Merry and Pippin!
Why did you put the "g" in Dominic Monaghan's name in parenthesis?
@@daemonthorn5888 did you actually watch the video before commenting? It’s pretty clear why
That's why The Friendship Onion is such a great pod cast. If you like lotr, you'll like TFO. No matter what they talk about.

Second breakfast:)
I met Billy Boyd two or three years ago at a con, and after we took a selfie and talked a bit, he goofed around with my glasses, taking pictures with them as if they were the most hilarious thing, and just generally being an adorable human being. It was really a fun encounter and he's really really nice to fans. Still grateful for the laughs, Billy!
I met him at a con and he is so absolutely delightful!
Oh, that's so cool! I was very fortunate to meet him at the Lord of the Rings in concert show in 2019 and I didn't want to keep him for too long (because I don't think some actual signing and photo taking was planned) so I told him he could decide which of the two things I had with me he could sign if he'd feel okay with signing. Yet he signed both and also took a photo with me (and a lot of others). He's absolutely lovely and such a great guy.
Same!!! He is my relative!!!!
Aw I also met him a few years ago at a con, he's really sweet
I love that these two have played countless roles, it's been 20 years since LoTR movies and they are still best friends in real life and have Tolkien knowledge that rivals most Tolkien nerds.
these dudes seriously seem like such cool, genuine people, and their chemistry together practically jumps right out of the screen... this was probably the best autocomplete interview i've seen
@Dominic Monaghan lmao while you're most definitely not actually Dom, kudos for saying nice things instead of trying to spam people...
“Pippin took personality and made it his own” I literally laughed out loud 😂

One of my favorite bits of LotR trivia, Merry and Pippin were buried next to Aragorn, then King Elessar. Two little hobbits with a penchant for ale and pipeweed, buried next to a King of the Numenorean lines of old
That is indeed a great bit of trivia! Thanks for sharing!
I read your name as “TreeSnoozy”, like Treebeard….but tired. Cracked me up
It's what they deserved.
To add to that, After those two and Aragon died, Legolas built a ship and him and Gimli went to the west.
It’s unbelievable that Billy Boyd is 52. He is an adorable goofball. And he still looks the same. Must be a great person to talk to.
3:22 Billy’s laugh/yell brings me so much joy 😊🤣
Just as Robert Downey Jr _is_ Ironman, Dominic and Billy _are_ Merry and Pippin. And we're all better for that fact. May they live as long as a hobbit and have twice as much fun.
Hear, hear!
They admitted it too, I think somewhere on one of the extended edition interviews or commentaries. Except Billy is really Merry, and Dominic (Billy’s words) “is an idiot.”
Best comment ever!! :D
How has Wired not figured out the peeling tape problem by now?
They're not too up with current technology I guess.
They just leave it in as a gimmick now.
They do it on purpose. Creates fun moments at times.
Oh my word they're hilarious, particularly Billy. 😂 Also 07:45 them nodding at each other was *such* a Merry and Pippin moment it's unreal. 😂😍👌
The fact that these two are still super close friends and are so cheerful makes me smile so much! And to see them answering these questions with such spirit, humor, and knowledge of Tolkien's beautiful world makes them feel not only like two incredible actors, but still clearly in the spirits of Merry and Pippin, the legendary hobbits!
As a Tolkien/Lord of the Rings nut, seeing this made my day! :D

I’m seriously impressed by how much they know about their characters outside the scope of the movie. Genuinely raised my opinion of them, not that I ever thought poorly of them. It’s just better lol
After all these years, they still have the same chaotic energy and I absolutely adore it
I love that Dominic and Billy have such a thorough knowledge of their characters and the lore of Lord of the Rings. Most actors can barely remember the names of all the characters they've played; these guys remember who their fictional children marry in the appendixes of the books.
Impressive stuff.
Yess truee
For real, I'm impressed!!
They both read the books before filming. Dom mentions on the podcast that his dad was a big LotR fan and made Dom wait until he was old enough to read the trilogy.
I'm pretty sure the list of food they like is accurate as well. Billy clearly knows it and Dominic give him the look after saying biscuits. Legends
They spent ten years filming it and living on set in fairness
My favorite thing about these guys is that they love to talk about LOTR, even though it ended a long time ago. Some actors like to move on and stop talking about past projects. But these guys really love it.
Edit: I’m aware everyone loves to talk about it. They’re just not in the video. So I focused on the two actors in this video 😂
Honestly that goes for everyone who worked on lotr. It was a year long shoot and they all have very fond memories of the project.
I love that. It shows they enjoyed their time filming. I also knew someone who did a meet and greet with Sean Astin and Billy Boyd here in Canada years ago. She said both were very professional, kind, and also hilarious. It's nice to know they're decent fellows.
Yea some actors and actresses don’t even like it when you bring it up, but these guys have embraced it, I’m happy for them.
It's true of pretty much everyone involved. The only one who doesn't talk about it all that much is Viggo Mortensen, but he doesn't really do much media stuff in general.
Everyone had a great time acting in possibly the best trilogy of movies ever under the perfect director with the perfect cast and crew that described possibly the best trilogy of books ever written by undisputably the greatest fantasy author in history. I'd be sad if they ever got bored of talking about it lol

It really is impressive dedication.
In order to sell the chemistry between their characters, these two decided to keep working together 20 years later.
The deep friendships formed by the actors in these movies is wonderful. It really feels like they had a once-in-a-lifetime experience together, and I imagine they'll all be close for many years.
They basically got to play D&D with each other every day!
Fun fact: in the books, Merry and Pippin moved back to Gondor later in their lives and when they died they were buried next to Aragorn
It's like they didn't even need to act for the LOTR movies, they have hobbit synergy in real life. Wholesome to watch
The fact LOTR got made into a competent trilogy at all is almost a miracle in and of itself. Tolkein doesn't translate very well to film. The fact that PJ executed so brilliantly and the cast was basically perfection is amazing. Still my favorite theatre experiences of all time as a young man, seeing one of my favorite books as a kid brought so lovingly to life.
The conspiracy between Pippin, Merry, Sam, and Fredegar is that they spied on Frodo and thus discovered that he had a magic ring and was planning to leave the Shire. When it was time for Frodo to say goodbye three of them said, "We're coming with you." The fourth stayed behind to fool people into thinking Frodo hadn't left, which nearly proved fatal when the black riders arrived.

And as always they are witty and hilarious while answering questions 😂 Nothing but love for these two! Forever our Merry and Pippin 🖤🌿
If you’ve ever watched the appendices, you’ll notice many of the actors for the trilogy were well versed in the books. It shows in all their performances in making arguably the best movie trilogy in existence. If I’m remembering correctly, Christopher Lee actually knew Tolkien.
That's one of the many things I loved about the Lord of the Rings trilogy - that pretty much the entire cast and most of the crew were very well versed in Tolkien lore and had a respect for Tolkien's vision. Very few actors these days in fantasy and sci-fi works have detailed knowledge of the lore of their characters, it's very sad.
Agree with all of you very very impressed with hearing that they all had such a deep understanding of the book
Billy is one polite guy who seems like he'd be a champ in real life not fake like some celebrities.
I met him at a Con and he was very nice. Great with the fans and very fun
Billy's attitude is what keeps him so effortlessly young. I strive to achieve his spirit at that age.
I was privileged enough to take a picture with Billy, and he was the sweetest person living. He even held my toddler for the picture and got her to look at the camera. A+ human being.
That's ao nice !
I just want to hug them for helping me through my teenage years
The casting people for LOTR did a great job in traveling all the way to England and Scotland and finding two actual Hobbits to play Merry and Pippin.
Awesome seeing these two again, and love how they know so much about their characters and the wider LotR story. You can tell so many of the main cast totally immersed themselves in the story - one of the many reasons the films were so good.

It's amazing how well Tolkien put the books together. He made even characters like Merry and Pippin very important for the story considering how much they did for Rohan and Gondor. They also destroyed Isengard, Merry brings the killing of the Witch king of Angmar and Pippin was the one who ultimately "created" Gandalf the white. What an absolute chads.

Dang, the casting for LOTR and the Hobbit was so good. Many of the actors really embodied and embraced their characters in a way that’s an absolute delight to witness. And there’s something about Billy Boyd’s face that makes him look a bit like Martin Freeman- which would be really cool if it was done on purpose, since Bilbo is half a Took.
The casting team really deserve their own Oscar for how well they nailed it.
Vigo bring cast as Aragorn is quite possibly the greatest casting choice in history
I thought that when I saw Bilbo in the Hobbit that they looked quite a bit alike. Not exact matches but near enough.
@@widexawake_ What makes it even crazier is that he wasn't even the first choice. Perhaps not even the second since Jackson apparently offered the role multiple times to Daniel Day Lewis and was adamant with the casting department that the role was for him and him alone. When he repeatedly denied it, the role was offered to and I believe was actually accepted by Stuart Townsend. Jackson didn't trust how he was playing the character though and finally it was given to Viggo, and my god... I can't even begin to imagine the trilogy without him.
