    Your first step when doing your lay-up should have been a full sheet of well soaked mate and then you could lay your roving on top of that to create 1 unit of thickness. You will have a way less lumpy lay-up this way.
    Before starting cut your fiberglass mat and roving sheets to size , it makes the layup go way faster.
