    Betty said she was on a rollercoaster she couldn't get off. Shades of Valley of the Dolls! :)

    I love how Elliot told Steven what an ass he was the night before. Steven is still too full of himself to take it to heart.

    "I couldn't help it", "I don't understand", "You HAVE to believe me!", "I HAD to." Does no one in PP have any self control or brains???? It gets exhausting.

      If Steven had just listened to Betty when she begged him, more than once, to leave that house...leave Peyton Place and start a life together, none of this would have happened. How anyone could think that marriage could last while living in that house is ridiculous.

    Betty went crazy, you can not say everything, sometimes too much honesty can bring more harm, she would do better not to say about will conditions

      They should've re-shot the one for James Douglas (Steven) for sure...since he glances over at the camera. But good point: something in-keeping with their particular characters.

      Allison did leave a void that no other young girl could really fill-although the producers and writers sure did try with people like Rachel,Jill and Carolyn.

      the show took a definite, softer turn after Lee Webber's preliminary hearing - and even moreso with the advent of color....

    • @Modguy61
      @Modguy61 6 років тому +2

      Very true. The series somehow lost it's focus without Allison; the production staff tried to compensate by bringing in other young female characters but none of them caught on with the audience like Mia Farrow's Allison.

    • @dawndittmar7751
      @dawndittmar7751 3 роки тому +2

      Someone else suggested on here that maybe when Mia wanted "out" they just should have let her go and gotten another Allison. It sure would have been better than dealing with the likes of Rachel, episode after episode after episode.

      @@dawndittmar7751 No doubt the producers had a lot of sleepless nights over that SUPER dilemma; cast regulars too, over the obvious possibility the show would tank with 1) an actress to replace Mia Farrow in the role of Allison or 2) Allison to remain M.I.A. (oh, look how that played out: MIA = M.I.A.) with new, young female regulars brought in like Susan Oliver (Ann) and Leigh Taylor-Young (Rachel).
      Imagine the pressure on the actress taking over for Mia as Allison in addition to the pressure on the audience to accept her, i.e, 'take it or leave it, SHE'S our new Allison.' Mia possessed such a unique physique, face, hair, eyes, voice -- it would be difficult to clone, to approximate. Conversely, when Dorothy Malone was out for her medical leave, Lola Albright playing Constance in her absence, practically seemed seamless.

    Random observations and valid finger-pointing at the responsible parties:
    03:43 - 03:49 Steven's phony-looking, REALLY phony-looking five-o'clock shadow: James Douglas' make-up artists.
    02:35 - 03:29 Ridiculous MOUNTAIN of hair on Betty; from the rear angle the blob fills half the screen!: Barbara Parkins' women's hair deptartment hairdresser.
    03:51 - 04:29 In contrast to the above, here the director's choice of a close-up of Betty eliminates any distractions from the preponderance of hair and concentrates solely on her beautiful facial features. The intercutting between Betty and Steven provides quite a contrast -- her soft, glowing, lovely face and Steven's backlit YUCKY, charcoal gray face that looks more like a skin condition than 'five o'clock shadow.'
    0:53 - 1:00 Unkempt, over-due-for-haircut white locks not conceivable for ultra-well-to-do Martin Peyton and inconsistent with previous years' appearances: George Macready's barber and/or studio's hair stylist.
    10:07 - 10:13 Repeat offender: immovable, helmet-hair wig that viewers suffer through with every Constance appearance; imagine intended displays of spousal intimacies. Why poor Elliot would nearly break his fingers trying to rub them through her hair: Dorothy Malone and/or women's hair deptment's poor judgement. It's mind-boggling producer Paul Monash let this continue so long without addressing it and making changes.
    06:30 - 07:38 Following the extended, ugly couple's quarrel, masterminded by Martin Peyton, such lovely music to underscore a peaceful scene of naturally-pretty Rachel (ed. - pretty, yes, but seriously disturbed and NOT to be trusted) doing the most ordinary thing in the middle of a restless night: lying awake, her gorgeous eyes open then checking the nightstand clock's time, 3 a.m., during a sleepless night then arising, at the sound from the nursery of Matthew's cry, to check on the baby. (ed. - 07:37 - 07:49 Constance's house isn't in Siberia, so how is it that creepy Chandler (John Kellogg), looking like a night stalker, can stand in the open in a residential neighborhood street for God knows how long on the assumption Rachel will glance out the window?)
    02:40 - 02:48 seductive, bedroom lighting, strategic camera placement and Betty's bosom further enhanced by a push-up bra and low-cut, red gown make for a beautiful sight, yet all of James Douglas' actor training and discipline forces him to keep his gaze away from the valley and instead on her false-eyelashes-enhanced, dark eyes.

    Well this is the last time I'll be watching this soap
    These characters have a most difficult time being honest with themselves and with others.
    Their lack of honesty and inability to be empathetic esp with those most close to them is something I'm not accustomed to. Also the underlying tense thred of lust and sex is disturbing...no wonder this show was inappropriate for young people to watch back in those days when social mores were totally different than today's. Good luck to whoever choses to continue watching these DYSFUNCTIONAL people turn, twist and spin!

      You sound as if you really mean those words and if you do - I salute you. I have become aware of the social engineering breaking up the family unit and I can see it’s roots in all the old stuff that I watch.
      I wonder what you think of programming in 2021? Children are being programmed mercilessly and nobody is allowed to say anything. Crazy but I started watching old stuff to escape what they offer us now as entertainment.
