We all complain about the price of these vehicles but honestly building a vehicle like this isn’t cheap. The R&D, engineering, testing and manufacturing costs are probably astronomical. The Bronco is built for mud riding, rock crawling, and high speed desert running. But it’s also comfortable to be your daily driver and roomy enough to have baby seats in the back. And on top of that it must pass all safety regulations. In all honesty this probably not a very profitable vehicle for Ford which explains why GM, the accounting firm that makes cars, doesn’t bother to compete in this segment.

Andre, when you said 'regular people' I don't think that's who Ford has in mind as buyers for this thing. A quick look at pricing for one of these toys around where I live is anywhere from 95K to 120K. And I suspect they'll all have a 'dealer markup or adjustment' added to the window sticker on top of that. Other than that, that was an entertaining 15-minute infomercial.

95k to 120k means you probably live in Ontario, Alberta or British Columbia! Those are Canadian Dollar amounts which is about right! The company F150 Lightning Platinum I will be driving this September was $117k at $1600 CDN per month for a lease AND comprehensive/replacement value insurance combined payment with a lease buyout of $15,000 CDN at the end of the term. Those are a tad EXPENSIVE ....BUT.... since the Government of Canada and BC government do have EV rebate programs plus business expenses-oriented tax writeoffs of about 17%, it means the total NET cost is now below $100,000 CDN which is fine with us! I get to drive a Platinum Edition EV for work and play and the company saves money on gas ($2.16 CDN per litre) which is equivalent about $6.16 USD per gallon in the Metro Vancouver area!
The 9.6 KW on-board battery power is ALSO GREAT for worksite power generation use too!

The guy saying answering questions about being a mall crawler. Nobody questions the capability of the Raptor vehicles, but capability vs how the buyers actually use them is why 80% of them will end up mall crawlers, same as a majority of jeep wranglers. like I see in the school drop off line, I guarantee the mom with immaculate hair and nails in the wrangler 4 door with no scratches is not an off roader, just a middle age woman living out her daisy duke midlife crisis fantasy.

Taken out of a car context, let's say my house has a hedge, do I buy a simple hedge trimmer, or since that isn't "extreme", do I prune with a 24+" bar chainsaw? Clearly the guy who chooses the chainsaw in that instance has issues. Why do cars get a pass on common sense? If you Baja, buy the Raptor and enjoy, if you don't, then buy the non Raptor version.

RUMOR MILL ALERT: Electric Bronco and Electric Ranger seen in Northern Michigan again in July 2023 --- TFL needs to start asking Ford what's up! My two automotive engineering sources have again bestowed upon me some juicy tidbits about BOTH a Ford Bronco with its back interior stripped out being seen again in July 2023 after being seen doing winter testing in November/December 2022 ....AND.... a Ford Ranger also being seen with NO engine noise and no exhaust pipes driving in and about Grand Marais, Alger County, Michigan, USA. This area is quite remote and borders Lake Superior and is very rural. It's the perfect place for rural rough-road testing where not too many people are around to see them in action! BOTH vehicles where seen at different times in July 2023 in the Grand Marias and nearby rural backroads areas!
The Ford Bronco EV has been seen multiple times in Northern Michigan so I am assuming Ford made a Battery Pack test mule system that tests driving range on more compact truck platforms. The Ford Bronco might NOT be the final destination platform but rather be a test mule for a NEW TYPE of long-range battery pack since one of the engineers overheard a 400 mile (600+ km) driving range back in December 2022. If you strip out the back of the Bronco, it is an IDEAL vehicle to stuff a big floor-sitting battery pack into it that FITS what I think could go into a future all-EV Ford Explorer and Expedition!
Since Ford has also already REGISTERED the Ford Maverick Lightning Trademark in Europe, the Ford Ranger all-EV test mule seen this July in Northern Michigan IS ALSO a likely test mule for compact truck battery pack testing. I am now QUITE SURE (i.e. with 65%+ certainty!) that we will be seeing an all-EV Ford Maverick and Ranger introduced by the 2026/2027 model years. Probably in Europe first and then over to North America by 2028/2029.
l am also QUITE SURE NOW that the new benchmark for driving range is 400 miles (600+ km) for the upcoming Maverick Lightning EV and the likely upcoming Ford Ranger Lightning EV and probable Ford Explorer models. 400 Miles all-EV driving range is the magic number that most North Americans can meet for an ENTIRE 5 Day week of driving to and from work in urban and suburban environments since most people don't drive more than 40 miles (60+ km) each way. That means most people can just let the truck charge over the weekend to get it ready for the ENTIRE work week and still do their weekend grocery and soccer-mom/kids playtime runs!
With Ford's recent announcement that MORE HYBRID platforms will be moving into production for the F150 and Superduty realms, I am thinking Ford is redirecting money into the MID-SIZE/COMPACT truck segment for all-EV vehicles. The F150 and Superduty are their bread-and-butter truck products but they need to REDUCE retail prices so making more fuel-efficient hybrid systems makes a lot of sense for that segment and the MID-SIZE/COMPACT Maverick, Ranger and Ford Explorer segment could start going ALL-EV sooner rather than later!
What does TFL and you the VIEWER think?
