Lego leaked to third parties that all those star wars sets were to retire and got everyone to buy now, then announced they weren't retiring...definitely a new, dirty strategy to make money by lego
I was wondering the same thing, but then I asked myself to what gain? Billion dollar company does a quick cash grab that annoys a segment of their market. The timing definitely seems suspect and terrible, but I don't think that's a move Lego could pull too many times before we'd all become wiser and adjust accordingly. I know Lego is fully aware their success depends on consumers continue to vote for them with thier dollar. If moves like that became the norm, many of us could go somewhere else with our money. That's ok, I think lego investors make NOTHING but dirty money by buying up a bunch of fucking toys... grow up, quit crying about it.

Also I agree with you that the Star Wars mechs could be a decent investment. I’ve built all 3 with my kids. And they are kinda cool. So on a good discount they could be a solid investment.

It was 100% on purpose, lego tries to deter lego investing. They bought bricklink for a reason.

Good point on bricklink (which Lego bought in 2019 - apparently kind of an interesting story - which is for another day!). Lego definitely could have done it one purpose as a deterrent to investors, but I'm not sure how much of an impact it will have. I think it's really hard to get high quantity of sets with the GWP during May the 4th, so it's interesting to think about if Lego accomplished anything if that was their goal. Either way, I haven't heard of many people with high quantity that got bit. I have quantity of two on a couple, which is no big deal...I'm going to open one for my collection anyways! Hmmm idk if the delaying was done for the purpose of “throwing a swing at Lego investors” It’s tough to say, I think that people who don’t like Lego investors want to believe that Lego retired the sets to deter investors but did they really do it for that reason? I mean when you think bout it, what financial impact does the secondary market have on Lego ? Not much tbh, Lego is a kids toy at heart and will always be bought whether there are people who collect or not. There will always be sales for Lego. The only way I can financially see an impact from the secondary market is is Lego if investing deters people from buying legos for fun which will lead to less sales for Lego and Lego will need to do something about it.Therefore I Think that Lego isn’t really concerned about the secondary market as much as we think they do and they do delay retirement because of maybe bad sales or other reasons that can’t be predicted or weren’t predicted correctly.
I generally agree. I think there are tons of factors into Lego's product (design, theme, release dates, retirement dates, etc.) decision making. I'm sure they occasionally think about investors...and it seems reasonable they'd occasionally do a switch up to keep us on our toes, but outside of that I think Lego is satisfied to have a healthy secondary market (but relatively small compared to their primary market). Lego investors buy up remaining inventory when they are fully ready to be done with a product and clear space for their new releases and Lego investors keep consumer enthusiasm going for the products in general and certain subthemes more specifically. In general, I never have an issue with Lego's decisions. I don't necessarily agree or like them all (but I'm not thier only market, they're doing well by targeting something for all segments of their consumer market), but I don't waste any mental energy on them. It's their company...they have a history of making great products we all love and they have a history of generally being a good company (nobody is perfect). So, my asumption as an investor is Lego will make all kinds of decisions, not for me to worry about, just for me to pivot and keep playing the game along the way! Good comment, thanks!

Yeah, I always support Lego keeping their sets on the shelves as long as they want! They're the primary market, investors are the secondary market. Plus it's a great set. I'm glad everyone (investors, collectors, etc...) can pick up a lot more...I hope to get a few more myself!

My guess is that they didn't sell as many as they had wished and anticipated. I was a bit frustrated by the gunship not retiring. I felt the need to pick it up for personal use and did during the may promo and I was gonna grab one around the holidays to try and eventually resell, thankfully I hadn't bought the second one

The others dont surprise me. The ghost retirement made sense if they were gonna make a ucs model of it in the next couple years. I don't resell unless I get brickheadz on discount because of storage and risk.

I'd say 'watch out' when stacking The Ghost. I think knowledge of the appreciated price on the last one is widespread. For every 2014 still available now, there'll be a hundred in 2028/9
Excellent point! Come this time next year I'm going to be watching supply and demand on it very closely...which I'll discuss when the time comes in future videos. I'll be sure to say if I think there's risk of too much supply. How about the others that fell off the retirement list? Are you concerned about overhoarding with any of those? Take care my friend!
It’s the old adage…if it’s too good to be true, it likely is. Several of those had pretty short shelf lives. Not really surprised. Bummer!

I'm 'urgh - quite loaded' on the Jedi SF and Clone pack, but good with the rest. There was never any real chance The Ghost was going to go this year.
Oh nuts, sorry to hear that. At least they are smaller and theoretically easier to store in small available spaces...stuff them in random places, haha!
These may have been over produced, but maybe they are somehow good sellers (not just though LEGO, but Amz, Target, etc too)? The Darth Vader helmet has been out soo long, why else would LEGO keep it on their shelves?? I dont think LEGO cares about the post retirement market, they have no influence or money to gain from it. If they overproduced these, they could always do a end of year sale like they did with many of the sets this year to get rid of them at a discount.
Got some Ghosts. I took the minifigs out and sold the rest of the sets on Ebay for a good price. Still an excellent deal.

yeah, I never considered duplo until recently. That was my first duplo purchase, but some in the past have done really well! I'm going to look at more duplo, especially when on great discout.
I fell foul of the May 4th promo shell game, but the prices were so good with the sale of GWPs I will just hold them.

Where do you find supply demand for legos?

Good question. Finding supply and demand information requires some forensic research, haha! I'll try to talk about it more in future videos!
For supply info I look at number of listings on eBay (higher number could imply higher volume on secondary market), camel3x to see if it has gone out of stock on amazon and if it is a store exclusive (lower supply).
For demand I look at Amazon sales in last month and current sold prices compared to MSRP on eBay.

Hey KDX! Thanks for the great video and info. Ive got a quick question about the trash compactor diorama set. I got 32 of them at $23 dollars a pop. Ive been recently debating on whether to sell now or wait a while for them to increase a bit more. What would be your strategy in this situation?
Hard to say because partly depends on if you need to clear up storage space and/or want/need to liquidate to put cash into other sets. If it were me, I'd want to wait until at least October/holidays and maybe even until January. Will be interesting to see the price growth through the rest of this year. Best of luck!!

This why I am glad to only buy sets when there’s stacked percentages like the target gift cards or extra cash back to use back on a whole another set, and I am trying to buy sets only during 30%+ sales or clearances, I kinda wanna save up but also expand my Lego collect and “investment collection” (not to big on investing in Lego but some figs and sets I will buy like a few of to get me extra money in the future if they go up
Edit:still not even too sure on my 20 clone BP purchases (501st/332nd) I have a 12/8 ratio and I wanna pick up more the ones I got with the target card $10 after $50 spent got me 13.50 per pack but I need to shave off a few more dollars for that sweet sweet price and I need some for my collection too

What do people think of this guy Shane O'Farrell? Do you think he's genuine? All seems a bit too good to be true. Not cheap either tbh. Genuine or bit of a Ponzi scheme?
Hello! Great questions...I had the same questions when I first started watching Shane's videos too (because I'm always naturally skeptical, haha!). I've spoken with Shane a number of times now and I personally like him and find him to be genuine. Yes, his program is not cheap. I obviously can only speak for myself and can't speak for others, but the impression I have is his members really like all the resources, tools, bots, etc. available in his program. Additionally, everyone is at different stages of their Lego investing journey and everyone has different goals (which is a wide range probably somewhere between picking up a few extra sets to offset the cost of collecting Lego to a fun but productive side hustle/hobby to a full time business). Depending on everyone's stage and goals, Shane's program is or is not a good fit. I'm sure it's definitely not a good fit for a number of people. But, there may be some folks who would feel there's good value to them (again depending on stage of journey and goals). As you heard in my video, I'm not pushing it at all...just making everyone aware of another resource.
But yes, I always think it's great to be skeptical and proceed cautiously. People could try out the free month Shane is offering to get a feel if there's value to them and then make a decision after the free month.

Lego is going to have to open a separate store for its Star Wars line.. with everything releasing in 2025.. Anyway waiting till something actually retires have you ever run some numbers on that approach and outcome..? Holding up your money for a substantial amount of time is detrimental for investing.
Hahaha, true! Yeah, I only buy sets retiring in that year and sometimes even zombie stock early in the calendar year of sets that just retired, but all the stock hadn't sold out yet. Shortest hold time increases compounding!
We all saw this coming, some of the sets were just too good to be retiring that early!! Very crafty from LEGO though after the May 4th promotion … but with those discounts I don’t mind holding on for a while longer!!
Agree...I don't mind holding a few for a little extra. Yeah, I figured something was coming, but I'm:m surprised it was 7 of the top 10!! Part of the game 😁

are you interested in formula 1 as well as indy 500? i decided to watch the monaco gp instead of indy 500. Ill be going to honda indy this year tho!
Yes!! I love NASCAR, Indy and F1...I watch as much as I can. NASCAR because of the "stock" cars and bumping fenders (rubbing is racing!), Indy because of street, road and ovals (and the 500 of course), and F1 because of all the cool tracks and locations (even though the actual racing product isn't the best, only a few true contenders). Dude, that Monaco race was pretty wild! You ever been to an F1 race? Enjoy Honda Indy!!

Lap 1 of monaco was where all the action really was lol, its crazy how the top 10 starting grid remained the same at the end! I've never been to an f1 race but i'd love to go to COTA or Montreal. Have you been to a nascar race? i would love to go but most are in the US and im Canadian/

Yeah, I've been to NASCAR in Daytona, Nashville, Charlotte, Pocono and Indy races in Portland. It's all been so fun!! Hopefully NASCAR races in Canada soon - there's been rumors it's going to happen, but not sure when!!
@@kdxbricksanalytics Yeah, Monaco GP is one of the three crown jewels of racing! Always cool to watch :). I think all of the F1 races are priced pretty highly, plus travel is costly is a lot. Maybe if you get a unicorn you could get a nice seat at the Monaco GP lol.

Going to Daytona is great! Awesome venue and facilities. Over 100,000 people! It's pack racing, which is quite the spectacle to see in person...40 cars going by close to 200 miles an hour only a few seconds from first to last. The noise and energy is something else! I wouldn't want every race to be a superspeedway, but a few a year is great, so Daytona is awesome!!

New to Lego so assume I am missing something. How did you calculate the VIP points $ on your purchases. Base points should only be $8.50?
Good question... typically VIP/Insider points equal 5% cash back. But when they do double points it's 10%. And, during May the 4th, they did 4x points on a few sets (20% cash back)!!
