    Under appreciated dynasty.
87: Lost to BOS in ECF in 7 games
88: Lost to LAL in Finals in 7 games
    89: Champs
    90: Champs
This team owned the second half of the 1980s and have mildly been recognized & appreciated

I hear you, the problem is that the Pistons finally came through when the big dogs were winding down. Filled in the gaps during that transitional period from one dynasty to the other.

@@juliohernandez3323 Winding down??? They beat Bird when he was having his best year in 1988... practically 30ppg. And they should have beat Celtics in 87' too. They had the Lakers beat in 88'... Also Magic and Worthy went to the Finals again in 91... And in 89' Magic was season MVP... with probably the best season statistically of his career... Parish and Mchale were still running like Mustangs in their game and making All-star teams... check their stats!... Only guy winding down was Kareem. Magic succumbed to HIV... even his last season he was still ball'in out... Really Pistons should have had 3 chips in a row... That would have tied Bird's Celtics rings and been even more impressive... Bird never repeated. If Pistons hadn't been robbed in 88'... Isiah would have had 3 rings to Magic's 4 (also Magic would have never repeated). Even MJ couldn't have kept Zeke off the Dream Team then. The sad part is; the real fact of the matter is Pistons actually deserved to win three rings in a row. They were literally robbed by a phantom foul that never even happened. Even Pat Riley admitted it. And if teams could challenge calls back then, like they can now today... Pistons would have won that series too. History would be written a lot different. Pistons were much more than a "transitional period" winning team, they were a dynasty... The "big dogs" weren't winding down.

funny how rick mahorn is always mentioned as a key contributor for the pistons teams of the late 80's when he wasnt on the repeat title team and avg. 3 points less than 3 combined steals blocks assists and 4 rebs a game in under 16 minutes ..smdh...he was the 9th best player on the 89 title team ...like come on..and the misconception of the 87-91 pistons was that they were very great on defense when really they were great on both ends and had talent both ways and could play any style ..they gave up over 100 a game in all 3 of their finals runs ..not a top 3 defense in the league but they scored over 105 so they were great on offense for the time..people confuse toughness and thugery for defense..the 2004 pistons won with defense..the 99 03 05 07 spurs won with defense..the 88-90 pistons won cause of their iq talent heart and chemistry..not defense...they had 3 hall of famers in dumars thomas and rodman a hall of fame coach vinnie johnson bill lambier mark aguirre jame edwards john salley ..that was a loaded team..not sure why salley and edwards are left out so much..

The 1990 NBA Finals marked the first Finals which did NOT involve neither the Lakers or the Celtics for the first time since 1979.
1990 marked the changing of the guard the Lakers who posted the league's best record in the regular season 63-19 was upset by the 5th seed Phoenix Suns in the Western Conference Semifinals and Pat Riley resigned after the season and the Pistons who had the second-best record in the league had the homecourt advantage throughout the remainder of the playoff including the Finals.

People don't get how great the pistons were just so everyone understands the bulls never became champions when they beat the Lakers they became champions when they beat the pistons that was when the bulls became the greatest ever and they spent 3 years developing there game against the pistons strictly the pistons they new they could beat anyone else it was only the pistons they were worried about that's the greatness of Detroit

Watch one of the games he called right when he went into broadcasting, it's like night and day. Similar to Terry Bradshaw, who didn't always act like a buffoon.

Its crazy how All the team's back in the day that were good are almost the worst team's now, like going to Detroit is a death sentence, Portland hasn't been the best, chicago isn't good, im a sixers fan and I've seen them atleast try to draft well, and have made a lot of moves to try to get them over the hump
